Kanika Kapoor is an Indian playback singer. She is mostly known for remix and item songs. Her biggest break was song "Baby Doll" from Ragini MMS-2. Kapoor has earned instant stardom because of all her songs becoming hits.
Early life and career
Kapoor was born and raised in Lucknow of Uttar Pradesh, India. [1] At the age of 12, Kapoor started to study classical music under musician Ganesh Prasad Mishra from Varanasi and was accompanied by him to classical concerts in India. During the time she did a stint with All India Radio and shifted to Mumbai to work in the music industry.[2]
Career
In 2012, Kapoor released her first music video "Jugni Ji", featuring Dr. Zeus. The track went on to become one of the biggest singles of 2012.[3] On hearing the song, Meet Bros Anjjan approached Kapoor to croon for "Baby Doll" in Ragini MMS 2, which was her Bollywood debut song, released in 2014.[2] The song won Mirchi Music Awards for the "Number One Song of the Year" award.[4] The song fetched her several accolades including Stardust Awards for Best female singer.[5] The same year she collaborated again with Dr. Zeus along with Vishal-Shekhar for the song "Lovely" in Happy New Year which was picturized on Deepika Padukone.[6] The soundtrack of the album also includes a Punjabi remix of the song titled "Kamli".[7] In the year 2015, she collaborated again with Meet Bros Anjjan for the song "Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan" in Roy which features Jacqueline Fernandez. In the same year, she lend her voice to Sunny Leone in the song "Desi Look" for her movie Ek Paheli Leela which also topped the music charts.
In 2014, she participated in a concert tour across North America, entitled "SLAM! The Tour", in which she performed alongside some of the renowned Bollywood actors including Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone.[8] Apart from concerts and tours, she has also been signed on by a prominent NGO for children, as their brand ambassador, where she promoted the cause of children's education.[9]
