Bulgaria is scheduled to compete at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. This will be the nation's twenty-fourth appearance at the Summer Olympic Games, having missed only three editions: the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, and the 1932 and 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles because of the worldwide Great Depression and the Soviet boycott, respectively.
Bulgarian weightlifters were banned from qualifying for the Olympics after 11 weigthlifters tested positive in March 2015. The decision of the International Weightlifting Federation was upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in January 2016.[1]
