Tokyo Rose

There is a section in the article Tokyo Rose that refers to Walter Kraner. That section's title says "Tokyo Rose", when it should state "Tokyo Mose", as that was what he was called. I attempted to fix that, but you removed my edit. I think that section's title/header should be corrected, as the error makes makes the article confusing, and I believe that you made a mistake in reverting my edit. As you said to contact you, I am letting you know, and I hope you will fix this soon. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CamoPants (talkcontribs) 08:47, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

April Hickox

Hello,

We are working on this Wikipedia page as a group of users for a academic assignment. A lot of my edits were reworking my colleagues posts.

What can I do to make this work for us? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arthistory01 (talkcontribs) 18:17, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what happened there. I merely updated the wikilink to a more specific and more helpful article. Please review edits more carefully before reverting. Thanks. 72.201.104.140 (talk) 00:15, 6 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion sorting

Some, but not all, Canadian provinces already have their own subpages of the Canadian page for deletion sorting. There's no need for a page which is already delsorted as Ontario to also be on the main Canada page in addition to that — it should just be on the province page alone. Thanks. 4th GA Cup - Wrap Up

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016 GA Cup - Wrap Up

Hello, GA Cup competitors!

Saturday, April 1 concluded the 2016-2017 GA Cup. 64 reviews were completed by our finalists. Although the backlog increased by 42 over the reviewing period instead of declining, the increase suggests that the contest is encouraging editors to nominate articles for review.

Congratulations to Shearonink, who is the winner of the Cup, finishing with 672 points! Once again, just as in last round, this is more than the point totals for all the other competitors combined! It was a close race for second place between Krishna Chaitanya Velaga, who achieved 164 points, and Sturmvogel_66, who earned 150. Though Sturmvogel_66 reviewed one more article than Krishna Chaitanya Velaga, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga managed to earn 14 points more due to reviewing older articles. Our two wildcard competitors, Kees08 and Chris troutman, came in fourth and fifth, respectively.

There were some bumps in the competition this time: The sign-up deadline and the first round were both extended due to fewer competitors signing up then was planned for. And there were delays in tallying points and getting out the newsletter. The judges apologize for this latter difficulty. Lastly, mid-way through the competition we bid farewell to Zwerg Nase, who stepped down from their position as judge due to other commitments. Information about the Final can be found here.

Thank you to all of our competitors, and congrats to our winners!

Cheers from Figureskatingfan, 3family6, Jaguar, and MrWooHoo.

To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletters, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant still competing, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

FYI: Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Americas

Hello. I noticed that you have been deletion sorting American topics in the Americas category. That category has been defunct since 2007 and selecting it under assisted delsort does nothing. The working category is "United States of America." Keying in "sta" in assisted delsort, brings it up pretty fast. Thank you for your help at AfD. • Gene93k (talk) 03:45, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because it is made for a fraternity that has been running for 17 years. Multiple websites showing brothers are www.betakappagamma.org and bkgbaylor.org . I have been working on the website for the past hour and would be very disappointed if my efforts were in vain. The fraternity has grown immensely since 2012 and even the content on the page has resembled that of any other fraternity on Wikipedia. In terms of national presence, if you look on school websites like Baylor, UT Austin or LSU, you will find Beta Kappa Gamma's influence on the community. In terms of chapter numbers, there are multiple fraternities and sororities that have less than 7 and ones that only have 1 chapter(local fraternities).

These are sources that show that it is an established official organization in the United States and that it is a fraternity:

https://issuu.com/thedailyreveille/docs/issuu1026 (Page 3 showing BKG fundraising)

https://www.gofundme.com/BetaKappaGamma

In addition to all these websites, Relay for life is the biggest cancer research event in America. Beta Kappa Gamma was the GOLD sponsor of Relay for life donating thousands of dollars. Here it is on their website. http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?fr_id=82902&pg=informational&sid=209324

To show the publicity of the organization and both it's service and social impacts:

Not only was there local coverage, there was also outside local coverage by cities outside of the fraternity's main residence/university.

These are additional sources for Beta Kappa Gamma in Houston and nationally

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Boxer (2017 film), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Romantic (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Are you the Captain Raju?

I had not known until today there was an actual person in the world named Captain Raju. You should make a note on your user page to clarify whether or not you are this real person. (Actually, if you are not this real person, that's a real problem. See WP:IMPERSONATE.) WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:16, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am not article Captain Raju. This article name is obviously unrelated with me.I am work in military.CAPTAIN is my job designation.CAPTAIN RAJU (✉) 18:46, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's actually not obvious. Captain Raju the actor apparently uses that moniker because he also served in the military. Per WP:IMPERSONATE, if your name happens to match that of a famous person, you should place a disclaimer on your user page stating that you are not that famous person. Mineko Iwasaki

Hello Captain Raju,

I really need some advice, I want to translate the article about Mineko Iwasaki. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mineko_Iwasaki ) I saw that article is not translated into my native language (Romanian) and I do not know how to do this on wiki. I do not want my translation in Romanian language to be seen when someone accesses the page in English.

I want to see it that way only those who want to read article in Romanian.

Can you help me? How can I translate this article.

Thank you. Best regrets Magda Cioclov — Preceding unsigned comment added by Magda.cioclov (talkcontribs) 20:05, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) I have moved your translation attempt to User:Magda.cioclov/De tradus. A Romanian translation of an article on the English Wikipedia belongs on the Romanian Wikipedia, just give proper credit in your edit summary. – Train2104 (t • c) 20:36, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting my edit on Oath of office

Brother Razu,

For your kind information, the article Oath of Office didn't include the oaths of the officials of Bangladesh. The portion was wholly created by me. The English translation was not taken from anywhere, rather I translated them. In the official oath, the line is "bangladesher rashtropoti poder". So the translation should be, 'the President of Bangladesh'. Firstly, I wrote the President only. Later I changed it to President of Bangladesh. The original oath contains the phrase, 'jothajothovabe'. 'With equity' should not be a correct translation and I thought 'justly' would be a more perfect translation. So my humble opinion is my edit is justifiable. And the post for 'mohahisab niyontrok' in English is 'Comptroller and Auditor General.' I corrected the spelling.

That's all from the defence.

'Drag(physics)' --> 'Very low Reynolds numbers: Stokes' drag' --> 'Vg'

Good evening,

I thought you could get an answer by editing the data and making a question in the post, which seemed to be a mistake. Sorry for that.

I would like to ask on the current post 'Drag(physics)' --> 'Very low Reynolds numbers: Stokes' drag' --> 'Vg' , what is 'Vg' in the equation given? If you don't know could you redirect me to someone who can answer to me this question?

NAC of AfDs

Hello Cap, and thanks for helping out at AfD. While your closures have been good, I noticed that a lot of them were closed a tad bit prematurely. AfDs are generally allowed to run through a 7-day course unless the result is very obvious. I see that you've been closing discussions a few hours before they hit the 7-day mark. Even though the outcome may seem unanimous, it's a good idea to allow an AfD to stay open for the entire 7-day period. Say for example, you close an AfD at 00:11 (UTC) which is actually scheduled to end at 19:19 (UTC) on the same day, you're closing the discussion 19 hours earlier. That 19 hour period (just an example, and might not need that long) might allow someone to voice a new opinion and might stir the discussion in a different direction, at AfDs that are not (close to) a snowball case. Even I have made early closures but only when a different outcome seemed very unlikely. Nothing wrong with your closures in general but I'd suggest waiting a little longer, unless it's a slam dunk. Closing discussions a few hours late won't hurt anybody. I appreciate your work and you've improved a lot. Keep up the good work. Cheers, — Yash talk stalk 05:43, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice. I will be careful and keep this my mind in the next time closing AfD (NAC) after 7 days. Thanks again.CAPTAIN RAJU (✉) 21:11, 2 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

May 2017 WikiCup newsletter

The second round of the competition has now closed, with just under 100 points being required to qualify for round 3. YellowEvan just scraped into the next round with 98 points but we have to say goodbye to the thirty or so competitors who didn't achieve this threshold; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. Our top scorers in round 2 were:

  • Scotland Cas Liber, led the field with five featured articles, four on birds and one on astronomy, and a total score of 2049, half of which came from bonus points.
  • Japan 1989 was in second place with 826 points, 466 of which were bonus points. 1989 has claimed points mostly relating to anime and Japanese-related articles.
  • South Australia Peacemaker67 took third place with two FAs, one GA and seven GARs, mostly on naval vessels or military personnel, scoring 543 points.
  • Other contestants who scored over 400 points were Freikorp, Carbrera, and Czar. Of course all these points are now wiped out and the 32 remaining contestants start again from zero in round 3.

Vivvt submitted the largest number of DYKs (30), and MBlaze Lightning achieved 13 articles at ITN. Carbrera claimed for 11 GAs and Argento Surfer performed the most GARs, having reviewed 11. So far we have achieved 38 featured articles and a splendid 132 good articles. Commendably, 279 GARs have been achieved so far, more than double the number of GAs.

So, on to the third round. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. 6gig edits undone

Hi Captain – You recently sent me a message, stating that my edits were undone because they weren't relevant. I was a member of the band that this page is about. I went through and edited all instances of 6Gig to 6gig. The name of the band is spelled with a lower case g. All instances should be 6gig, not 6Gig. I don't mind editing the page again, but maybe you'd leave the correct capitalization?

Thank you!

Their workboard is available in Phabricator. You can find links to the work finished each week at mw:VisualEditor/Weekly triage meetings. Their current priorities are fixing bugs, supporting the 2017 wikitext editor as a beta feature, and improving the visual diff tool.

Recent changes

A new wikitext editing mode is available as a Beta Feature on desktop devices. The 2017 wikitext editor has the same toolbar as the visual editor and can use the citoid service and other modern tools. Go to Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures to enable the ⧼Visualeditor-preference-newwikitexteditor-label⧽.

A new visual diff tool is available in VisualEditor's visual mode. You can toggle between wikitext and visual diffs. More features will be added to this later. In the future, this tool may be integrated into other MediaWiki components. [28]

The team have added multi-column support for lists of footnotes. The <references /> block can automatically display long lists of references in columns on wide screens. This makes footnotes easier to read. You can request multi-column support for your wiki. [29]

Other changes:

  • You can now use your web browser's function to switch typing direction in the new wikitext mode. This is particularly helpful for RTL language users like Urdu or Hebrew who have to write JavaScript or CSS. You can use Command+Shift+X or Control+Shift+X to trigger this. [30]
  • The way to switch between the visual editing mode and the wikitext editing mode is now consistent. There is a drop-down menu that shows the two options. This is now the same in desktop and mobile web editing, and inside things that embed editing, such as Flow. [31]
  • The Categories item has been moved to the top of the Page options menu (from clicking on the "hamburger" icon) for quicker access. [32] There is also now a "Templates used on this page" feature there. [33]
  • You can now create <chem> tags (sometimes used as <ce>) for chemical formulas inside the visual editor. [34]
  • Tables can be set as collapsed or un-collapsed. [35]
  • The Special character menu now includes characters for Canadian Aboriginal Syllabics and angle quotation marks (‹› and ⟨⟩) . The team thanks the volunteer developer, Tpt. [36]
  • A bug caused some section edit conflicts to blank the rest of the page. This has been fixed. The team are sorry for the disruption. [37]
  • There is a new keyboard shortcut for citations: Control+Shift+K on a PC, or Command+Shift+K on a Mac. It is based on the keyboard shortcut for making links, which is Control+K on a PC or Command+K on a Mac. [38]

Future changes

  • The VisualEditor team is working with the Community Tech team on a syntax highlighting tool. It will highlight matching pairs of <ref> tags and other types of wikitext syntax. You will be able to turn it on and off. It will first become available in VisualEditor's built-in wikitext mode, maybe late in 2017. [39]
  • The kind of button used to Show preview, Show changes, and finish an edit will change in all WMF-supported wikitext editors. The new buttons will use OOjs UI. The buttons will be larger, brighter, and easier to read. The labels will remain the same. You can test the new button by editing a page and adding &ooui=1 to the end of the URL, like this: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Project:Sandbox?action=edit&ooui=1 The old appearance will no longer be possible, even with local CSS changes. [40]
  • The outdated 2006 wikitext editor will be removed later this year. It is used by approximately 0.03% of active editors. See a list of editing tools on mediawiki.org if you are uncertain which one you use. [41]

Notes on AfD

A suggestion: could you leave a blank line between when adding notes on the AfDs? Makes editing a lot cleaner. Anmccaff (talk) 22:34, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
