Barun Sobti (born 21 August 1984) is an Indian television and film actor.[2]

He started his acting career with the Star Plus' faith-oriented television series Shraddha. His first role was as Shravan Jaiswal in Baat Hamari Pakki Hai opposite Ankita Sharma.

In 2011, he portrayed business tycoon Arnav Singh Raizada in the 2011 drama Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? (2011 TV series) opposite Sanaya Irani. As the show was demanded for another season by fans, a mini series was available on Hotstar titled Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon Ek Jashn. He later appeared in the 2017 web series Tanhaiyan opposite Surbhi Jyoti. He will soon appear in Tu Hai Mera Sunday that is scheduled to be released on 6th October. He is currently portraying the role of Advay Singh Raizada in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon 3 which will be coming to an end in October 6.

Early life and family

Barun attended St. Mark's School in Paschim Vihar, New Delhi.[2] Before entering into entertainment industry, he worked as an operation manager at Jindal Telecom for 7 years.[2] He married his childhood girlfriend Pashmeen Manchanda on 12 December 2010 in a Gurudwara.[3][4]

Career

Sobti first appeared as Swayam Khuranain the faith-oriented show Shraddha on Star Plus, opposite Neha Janpandit. He then appeared in a negative cameo role of Dr. Raj in Dill Mill Gayye, after which he played the lead role of the carefree Shravan Jaiswal in the television series Baat Hamari Pakki Hai.[5]

Sobti then went on to star in the drama Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? (2011 TV series) .[6] He played Arnav Singh Raizada, a rude and suave businessman who falls in love with Khushi Kumari Gupta played by Sanaya Irani. After Sobti announced his "break" from the show, the negative response from fans ultimately led to the series' cancellation.[7][8] In 2013, he was titled the Sexiest Asian Man by UK magazine Eastern Eye.[9]

He made his Bollywood debut in the 2014 film Main Aur Mr. Riight.[10] In 2015, he acted in Dry Dreams, a short film about water conservation.[11]

In 2014, Sobti signed Arshad Sayed's Satra Ko Shaadi Hai,[12][13][14] but in May 2017, Sobti expressed a belief that the film had been shelved. He said, "I don't exactly know the status of that film, but I doubt it's ever going to come out. I finished shooting for it long ago."[15]

Sobti's soccer themed movie Tu Hai Mera Sunday (English: You Are My Sunday), was directed by Milind Dhaimade. The film premiered at the British Film Institute (BFI) London Film Festival, then in India at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. It was also screened at the Comedy Cluj International Film Festival (Romania); and will have its USA premiere at Cinequest Film Festival, California in March 2017.[citation needed] It is all set for a worldwide release on the 6th October 2017.

In 2017, he acted in the web series Tanhaiyan opposite Surbhi Jyoti, and it was announced that Sobti would again be the lead in the third instalment of the Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon franchise,[citation needed] opposite Shivani Tomar from Kasam Tere Pyaar Ki. The show started airing as from 3rd July 2017 and garnered Sobti a lot of appreciation from critics and the television fraternity but failed to garner good rating and eventually that led to the show closing down on the 6th of October 2017.[citation needed] After the release of his next film, Tu Hai Mera Sunday, Barun Sobti will take a short break before choosing a new project.
