Revision as of 16:42, 24 October 2006

The Article Collaboration and Improvement Drive is a fortnightly collaboration to improve articles to featured article status.

/History - For past collaborations.
/Removed - For removed nominations.
/Maintenance - ACID upkeep.

Introduction

To vote or nominate you have to be a registered user with at least one contribution that is not a vote. Anyone who does so is encouraged to make at least one edit per vote or nomination to the currently chosen article, Dan Lim (random unreferenced BLP of the day for 6 Sep 2024 - provided by User:AnomieBOT/RandomPage via WP:RANDUNREF). Any and all articles may be nominated except:

How to nominate

I
Add nomination

Copy and paste the following template to the bottom of the list of nominations on this page and fill it out.
Please be sure to spell the article correctly, THE NAME IS CASE-SENSITIVE!

==={{la|Article}}===
{{acid|start=September 6, 2024|votes=1}}
<!-- Remember to update the vote counter when you place your vote! -->
; Support:
# ~~~~

; Comments:
* (put your reason for nomination) --~~~~

----

Under "comments" section put explanation of what work is needed.

II
Notify

After submitting the new nomination, go to the nominated article's talk page and put this at the top:

{{ACIDnom}}

How to vote

Sign with "# ~~~~" on the end of the list of the article you want to vote for and then update the vote count in the subhead. Opposing votes are not counted; see approval voting. You can vote for as many articles as you like. Additionally you can give a comment in the comment section; use terms such as appalling and shocking sparingly, remember that every editor that has ever edited a nominated article probably did so to the best of his of her ability.

How the article is selected

Article with the most votes every two weeks or so is selected as "The current Article Improvement Drive article". If two articles have same number of votes, the nominee with the higher number of hits per day over the previous month wins. The following template:

{{Template:ACIDcur}}

is placed atop the article talk page.

How an article is removed from the list

Nominated articles remain on this page for three "selections", after which that article entry is removed from and moved to the page for removed nominations.

Notes

New nominiations go *AT THE BOTTOM* :-)

  • This is a subject very near and dear to my heart. coffee's peer, tea, is already a featured article. Now that the FA nomination of the previous object of my obsession, caffeine, seems to be coming to a successful conclusion, this article seems like a logical followup. The current status of the article is only barely acceptable in its current form, so it needs quite a bit of work to reach FAS.

  • Former featured article demoted for lack of citing sources. Also a former COTW - was a very fun and popular collaboration a while back. Needs some fact checking and some sourcing of material. Should be a fun and easy-to-accomplish project to regain Featured Article status.
  • Article is on an important subject and should be the best it can be! Runa27 06:30, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Article is about everyday object that almost everyone has access to. It's very common in the United States, and is a measely stub. Really needs work. Adhesive tape is the general name of duct tape, masking tape, and scotch tape, if you don't relize the difference. So, that is why I am nominating this, because I believe we can have a lot more information about something so ordinary. --andrewI20Talk 06:25, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is a high-traffic article often linked to in the leads of biographies. It is in need of cleanup and a full content check. Parts of the history section and demographics appear to contradict other articles on Japan and Japanese history. It has a questionable section on nonverbal language that is more thorough than the section on Japanese itself. The pictures chosen are also questionable. This needs a lot of help. • Vorbis is the media format used for all Wikipedia audio. I therefore think it is vital that its article becomes a featured one. Plus, it teaches people about alternatives to MP3. Hope more people agree with me.--Ivo Emanuel Gonçalves/Saoshyant talk / contribs 10:34, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Vorbis is an important player in digital multimedia formats. It's widely used in Linux distributions and other open platforms as the default lossy format and is gaining ground in commercial usage. In fact, a lot of consumer hardware supports Vorbis playback. Some parts of the article could use some TLC and expansion. Sam 22:13, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Comments:

  • "This article has virtually no organisation. I moved some external links to their proper section and consequently removed the See Also section. Also, the article needs to cite where references were used in the article and not just have a collection of websites listed as references. The Biography section also contains too many quotes, perhaps consider renaming that section. It any case it needs to be cleaned up. I also counted three different ways of plugging his MySpace profile, all of which linked to a nonexistent profile anyway. I added a proper link. Ray Cash deserves a proper article."

BTW the reason why the quality of the article is poor is because I could not find accurate references to use. Please help this article and fast. Showmanship is the key 23:25, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Should be a massive article, but it's not. Something go wrong here?
  • WHOA! I agree! For one thing, no mention of the Foley scandal (nor the weird controversy surrounding the fact that the guy who was picked to replace him when he resigned was told by the court that he did not have the right to put posters up at the polling stations notifying people that votes for Foley would go to him), no mention of OPEC crap, no mention of any ACTUAL national elections, either, though it does take the kindness of mentioning that "numerous national elections took place". Somebody PLEASE fix this poor baby! Runa27 06:21, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Okay, I started work on the article. I made it match previous years in politics, and will continue to expand it. --andrewI20Talk 07:08, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • The water cycle is fundamental to Earth science and in understanding how the Earth works. It is the basis for understanding local and global water resources as well as the two most costly natural disasters - droughts and floods. The article would benefit from references, expansion of a few sections, perhaps graphics to replace the tables, and a little tidying up.

  • Photography is very important, with a long history. It is one of the most important types of media. This article is not even a GA, but could be raised to FA status without too much effort. -Gphoto 01:35, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
