Hi, thanks for your suggestion, although I remembered I wrote my reason why I deleted a section of the article before. That is because based on my research so far it's fake news. Wondering could you read Chinese? [1] The former information in the deleted section implied that the report is from a research of Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings (凤凰), however in the sources[2] you could see the publisher is actually not from iFeng but 深圳商业地产资讯 which I didn't find it to be a professional institution for this ranking, because I couldn't find any research approach for the ranking nor any other information published by 深圳商业地产资讯. On the other hand, I try to see if I could search to find any professional institution who produced this version of the ranking list but I also couldn't. Thus I found it to be fake news. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69-Rene-69 (talkcontribs) 08:56, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

man at crossroads

You have un-done my poorly constructed edit of this page, but I see the painting is still listed as being 63 INCHES across whereas it was 63 FEET. It was a mural.

psychometrics

I deleted the section because it is inaccurate according to the source. The source says:

"According to the report in The Guardian, which first ran the whistleblower’s claims, Cambridge Analytica had approached the authors of the myPersonality app for help with its ads targeting campaign. On being rebuffed, another researcher associated with Cambridge’s psychology faculty, Aleksandr Kogan, offered to step in and reproduce the model."

The current wiki page makes incorrect allegations which do not accurately reflect the source it cites.

You are welcome to write whatever is necessary on the talk page (I do not understand how wikipedia works) or to change the wikipedia article to be accurate. In the mean time the inaccuracy should be removed.

Revert query

I have a question about your recent revert. I changed a red link into a link for the topic that's under discussion. How is that not constructive? --Ranveig (talk) 07:33, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. You clearly do a lot of good patrol work, but sometimes there is a danger of coming up with false positives. I made a change from "the rape of the Sabine women" to "the rape of the Sabine women". That is constructive, wouldn't you say? I am not a new user, and I don't like being labelled as a vandal. --Ranveig (talk) 07:59, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
I have seen your messages in User talk:184.147.31.254, and the 31 hours block of this IP. Moreover, I have seen Horst.Burkhardt's message "I don't know where you went for six months" in the same talk page.
184.147.31.254 is the new IP a cross-wiki long-term abuser so, yesterday, I have made a request for a global block: meta:Steward requests/Global#Global block for 184.147.31.254 (Bell Canada vandal). The request contains details, for instance it mentions that at one time the 4 associated IP ranges were globally blocked for 6 months...
Regards --NicoScribe (talk) 14:11, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that certainly explains why the same sort of disruption was done by a similar IP after six months. Thanks for following this up. Horst.Burkhardt (talk) 21:27, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Anything to be done?

Hi Materialscientist, thanks for blocking 85.192.74.246 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) in response to my AIV report. Just wondering if there's anything to be done about blocking the same person who seems to be currently on a tour through Germany articles, 83.58.139.105 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log), 83.50.39.216 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log), today on 83.51.4.176 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log), and probably others that I haven't caught... Is it somehow possible to block IPs from Mataró, Spain, on Telefonica de Espana, from editing "Religion" sections? --IamNotU (talk) 04:30, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Drmies... yeah, I couldn't see how either user blocks or page protection could help. It's a pretty obvious pattern though. I know that abuse filters exist, but I don't really know anything about them. With all the stuff I read about AI these days, you'd think this stuff would be sorted out, and I wouldn't get any more spam e-mail :) --IamNotU (talk) 04:56, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

David Nirenberg

You asked me for a source on my edit of David Nirenberg. I can no longer see the edit, so can't tell you exactly what it was. But if it was about his spouse, I don't have a published source for that, but I was present at their wedding. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lament before the door (talkcontribs)

I presume that these are the edits in question. We aren't able to use Original research in articles. Articles must be sourced by reliable sources. WP:PRIMARY (a section of our policy on original research) even states verbatim: Do not add unsourced material from your personal experience, because that would make Wikipedia a primary source of that material. Use extra caution when handling primary sources about living people. Unfortunately, if you are looking to include that material, you will need to find a published reliable source to back it up. World map protection

Hi, I noticed you semi-protected World map indefinitely even though it had never been semi-protected before. Was that intended or was it supposed to be a temporary protection? I feel like indef protection should only be used if there has been disruption for a long time and many short-term semi-protections have not worked. — MRD2014 Talk 04:05, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This duration was intentional. The article has been vandalized and spammed continuously since 2005. Materialscientist (talk) 05:30, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You reversed my edit (See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Gctwnl). I do have a reliable source (the original document in fact), but that document cannot be found on the internet (except on my own page). Now, this is important information (as many Borg Warner 35's have been ruined because people did not know this). So the question is: what is the correct way to get this on the page?

Eddie Izzard Edit

Hi Materialscientist,

Thanks for showing me how to edit articles on wikipedia.

1. I personally know Eddie's manager and saw the show at the Adrienne Arscht Center. It was sold out, he's quite popular and a fan favorite.

How do you suggest sources, if the author IS the source?

I just saw that I overrode your block there. Sorry about that. I am glad your on it though. This troll seems to have nothing better to do than creating new accounts. -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:05, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Um. Sorry, the one ending in 42 wasn't actually that Sock user, I was undoing their vandalism, saw they were creating multiple accounts numerically, went ahead to see how many they'd created, and didn't have an account personally so thought it'd be mildly amusing/ironic if I created an account using the same format +1 after their highest numbered account (if you check all I'd done with it was undo vandalism, as opposed to the vandalising sock's). My bad, and in retrospect confusing and stupid, I think I assumed only his active/vandalising accounts would be looked at and perhaps IP checked to find their other accounts. Sorry about that, mea culpa. I see you noted the geojump elsewhere and naturally assumed it was a VPN or something. Could you unblock IP 219.88.68.195, thanks122.56.235.185 (talk) 03:08, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello? As above, myself and that IP weren't that sock, nor engaging in any sock behaviour, quite the contrary in fact I was undoing vandalism.115.189.97.209 (talk) 22:39, 30 January 2019 (UTC)
Hi. You appear to have extended the block on my IP 219.88.68.195, without replying. I've explained above that I was not the sock associated with those other accounts, and why I understand how it could've appeared that way, but a cursory comparison of the edits should be enough to confirm they are not me and that my posts are all good faith. Given that and their IP address originating somewhere overseas (going by your comment elsewhere) could you please lift the block on 219.88.68.195 (posting this from my phone)115.189.96.137 (talk) 00:37, 31 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Handling vandals

Hello! Thanks for sorting out Al-Ahli SC Handball (Amman) vandalism by User:Morithikmo. We have a followup User:Gothkidemo, apparently a vandalism-only account. Houw do I put the "vandal" message on his user page, and is there a quick way to help get these people blocked? Imaginatorium (talk) 07:47, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have blocked Gothkidemo without warning. A normal procedure would be placing {{subst:uw-vand1|Article Name}} ~~~~ on their talk, then repeat that while gradually increasing the number in the template from 1 to 3 or 4, then report the user to WP:AIV. Cheers. Materialscientist (talk) 07:59, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Candace Newmaker page revisions

Hello. I've recently been notified that my changes to the Candace Newmaker page have been rejected. I'm new to Wikipedia, and I apologize for not stating my reasons as to why. I will state my reasons here instead. I edited the "In popular culture" paragraph, in which it was stated that, several YouTube users have referenced Candace in light of the "Petscop" web series. The paragraph also mentions by name users such as "Pyrocynical" and "Game Theory". I found this disrespectful to the tragic case of Candace Newmaker. I believe this event should not be trivialized in such a manner, and that the removal of this section is justified. I stand by my decision. I'm sorry for not providing a proper explanation in the edit summary. I hope this clears up some confusion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.46.188.138 (talk) 12:17, 31 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Rollbacks TalokKin

Hey, it would be great if you could provide an explanation for your rollbacks of my edits (otherwise I'd just redo them) — Preceding unsigned comment added by ‎TalokKin (talkcontribs) 06:07, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @TalokKin: It would be even better if you were to explain precisely why you are exclusively performing mass rollbacks of edits by Coin945 without any edit summaries. General Ization Talk 06:11, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@General Ization: Hey, I noticed that, that user was spamming/advertising a certain page and trying to link it from pages that are not directly relevant. For example: the patreon article links to the game, even though it is one of multiple thousand projects that go through patreon (and isnt otherwise notable). Seeing this I though it to be nice, to remove this spam. I'm very new to wikipedia and did not really know if these had to be explained for each page or not. (and I did add an explanation to 2 edits) 06:21, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
@TalokKin: Coin945 has been an editor here for more than 12 years and has performed more than 24,000 edits. I think it is very unlikely that they are adding "spam" or that their edits otherwise violate any Wikipedia policy. Before you start mass reverting any other editor, you, as a new editor, might consider their editing history (which you can see) and, in this case, their longevity. You could also contact them on their Talk page to ask for an explanation if you think one is needed, or to suggest why you think they should reconsider their edits. General Ization Talk 06:27, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@General Ization: I actually went through his history a bit and was surprised that such senior wikipedia members would do that. Since I did not know how to handle this I went to the #wikipedia-en-help channel, where a helper told me that I could undo these. That particular helper also added a new section to the talk page of Coin945. Especially on the Patreon page it should be obvious that the link to that project is misplaced, since outside the controversies section no particular Patreon campaign is linked anywhere -- TalokKin (talk) 06:38, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TalokKin: If you visit Template:Did you know nominations/Piposh (2019 video game) you will see why Coin945 was adding links to the article, with the consensus of other editors who prepare the Did You Know? feature on the main page. The advice you received at #wikipedia-en-help was bad advice. General Ization Talk 06:44, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@General Ization: That user was DragonflySixtyseven (sorry if I drag you into something here :( ) which apparently is an even more senior wikipedia member (and admin). And yes, I saw this as well and the reason is clear. However, this probably does not mean that Coin945 should add links to not-really relevant articles. For example: adding the title to the List of unreleased role-playing video games and Chronology of tactical role-playing video games: Unreleased games when even the article itself Piposh (2019 video game) does not mention that it is any kind of role-playing game seems wrong. -- TalokKin (talk) 07:01, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TalokKin: My response to DragonflySixtyseven on Coin945's Talk page will very likely prompt Coin945 to review this conversation, and I'll leave it to them to consider your suggestion. As before, my advice to you as a new editor is to discuss edits you may think are problematic with the editor making them, rather than revert them, especially when you can see that the editor has a long history here. As a courtesy to Materialscientist, I suggest we leave it here. General Ization Talk 07:08, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Removed Article - Chicago Bulls Michael Jordan Return

Hello,

This text I added;

His anticipated return had a major impact beyond the basketball world. It prompted bookmakers to drastically improve the odds that a 0.500 team would win the NBA championship. It took precedence at a news conference held by Chicago Mayor Ricard Daley and it stopped sales of brokered Bulls tickets.

I can provide a source. I could even send you a PDF copy of the entire newspaper as I have them from two decades back.

I see that I cannot upload a photo of the newspaper as I do not own the work. I am going to try again, cite the source and hope it doesn't get deleted again.
