Nominator's rationale: Nondefining award for both Ukrainian and foreign recipients. At ukwiki all the articles just list it with other awards. (t · c) buidhe 22:02, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename as nominated per Category:Ambassadors of the Republic of China, excluding DRC which is correct as it stands. Delete Eswatini, Haiti, St Lucia, & St Vincent and the Grenadines, as these are empty having apparently each contained only a list which is now sufficiently parented. – Fayenatic London 21:35, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Eswatini is the only African country to maintain relations with Taiwan (and hence not with China).[1] Also C2C (Category:Ambassadors of the Republic of China) and C2D. Clarityfiend (talk) 21:38, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Several of these categories have been emptied. Liz Read! Talk! 15:47, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename as nom, except DRC per above comment. I'm all in favour of considering Taiwan as completely separate from China in about every aspect, however foreign relations is one of the very few fields where it relates to the outside world under the name of Republic of China. That is certainly the name used in the title of all these ambassadors, rather than e.g. the hypothetical ambassador of Taiwan. As a side note, as a result of the PRC's own one-China policy, these ambassadors are at any time the only ambassador representing China in their host country. Categories for ambassadors of the ROC should therefore be kept as a subcategory of Ambassadors of China to Foo, together with e.g. ambassadors from Ming, Qing or pre-1949 China. Place Clichy (talk) 16:30, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename all to Taiwan. This is a follow-up to a discussion we had long since, when we decided that anything to do with the post-1949 Republic of China should be called "Taiwan", being the name commonly used for this polity. The use of Republic of China should now be confined to pre-1949 mainland China. Note there is only an overlap between 1945 and 1949, as Taiwan belonged to Japan previously. The result of the discussion was: procedural close (this editorial discussion seems to have led to a satisfactory solution) (non-admin closure) Marcocapelle (talk) 13:30, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Should this (and all its subcategories) be in Category:People by nationality? As I understand it Puerto Rico has been part of the USA since 1898. Rathfelder (talk) 14:25, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Nondefining Thai award. On thwiki, this award is mainly given out to Thai royals and listed with other awards. On enwiki, it is not remotely defining to recipients like Sarit Thanarat, Mahidol Adulyadej, or Chakrabongse Bhuvanath. (t · c) buidhe 09:41, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: This award is for services to scouting. However, I checked at thwiki and it appears that the vast majority of notable recipients (on that wiki) are not notable for their scouting activities, and this award is just listed with others with no sign of being defining. Of enwiki articles in this category, people like Carl XVI Gustaf, Prem Tinsulanonda, or Sarit Thanarat are not remotely defined by this award. (t · c) buidhe 09:16, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: This award "is conferred to the Queen of Malaysia and newly appointed Malay rulers in his state. Fifteen, out of the total, are conferred on foreign princes, foreign Heads of State and other distinguished individuals." In other words, people receive this award due to their position/office, and should be categorized by that position/office rather than this award. The Honorary category appears to be awarded as a diplomatic souvenir only. Checked several bios and it's listed with other awards. Already listified at the main article. Nominator's rationale: There are only two—Kirtland Temple and Independence Temple—and there are no plans to build or establish any more. I suggest upmerging to the parents, neither of which are particularly large. Good Ol’factory (talk) 04:04, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Nondefining Latvian award. According to lvwiki it has indeed been awarded to many Latvians but does not appear to be defining, just being listed with other awards or not mentioned at all (except in categories). (t · c) buidhe 04:02, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: This award is mostly given out as a diplomatic souvenir or to friends of the British monarch. People like Nicholas II of Russia, François Mitterrand, Haile Selassie, Qaboos bin Said, Harald V of Norway etc. are not remotely defined by this award. Nominator's rationale: Nondefining Luxembourgish award. Most recipients with enwiki articles received it as a diplomatic souvenir. But it does not appear to be defining for non-royal/Luxembourgish recipients such as Romain Mancinelli, Mstislav Rostropovich, Richard E. Nugent or Auguste Laval either. I looked at several articles on lbwiki and saw no indication that this award is defining. (t · c) buidhe 03:36, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: turn into dab page, this is about either biological neural circuits or about artificial neural networks, topics in completely different fields. In article space Neural network (disambiguation) is a dab page too. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:46, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, you make a good case for adopting the AI meaning. Charles Matthews (talk) 15:09, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete The two concepts (biological and artificial) are extremely distinct imo. Neural networks in comsci is only loosely inspired by biological networks of neurons and only share the name. I agree a disambiguation page makes more sense. --Revan (talk) 10:25, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:PERFCAT
Aconcagua is the tallest mountain in South American an many prominent mountain climbers who want to brag about climbing mountains on each continent to complete the Seven Summits will ascend it. The 3 articles (Domi Trastoy Díaz, Sergey Kofanov, and Monique Richard) all list this mountain in passing among other mountains and are already categorized somewhere under Category:Mountain climbers. I don't even think this topic warrants listifying because, according to the main article, "In mountaineering terms, Aconcagua is technically an easy mountain if approached from the north". - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:22, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:09, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:TRIVIALCAT
The American National Trust for Historic Preservation is a historic preservation group that lists international hotels they consider to be historically significant on their Historic Hotels Worldwide web site. While some package tours are available, this is not a standard reservation service nor a legal heritage register but more of a third party marketing effort, as described in their website. The closest category I could find was Category:Michelin Guide starred restaurants but the non-US hotels in this category generally don't even mention this endorsement so it's clearly not defining. There is no main article to listify the category contents so I instead copied them right here so no work is lost of another editor wants to create a list article. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:22, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
