How you can help

Welcome, Mare. I assume you're the "anonymous wiki user", eh?

Enthusiasm is very good. You're contributing a lot, and that's a good thing. I don't know that every single Milestone character deserves his/her/its own entry, but we'll see how things turn out.

DS 18:04, 4 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I appreciate your enthusiasm for the subject of Static, but Wikipedia doesn't need an exhaustive list of every character who appeared in a comics or TV series. The purpose of a Wikipedia article is to provide the most important information about a subject (like the major characters, what the series is about), and include links to resources that might have more complete information like character lists and plot synopses. If you want to create something like that, maybe you could set it up on a free web site somewhere and Wikipedia could provide a pointer to it. Tverbeek 14:30, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Obviously you could just contribute some information and edit out the unnecessary names then.

User:Mare-Silverus 09:54, 15, Mar 2005

As a matter of fact, that's what I've been trying to do. A couple weeks ago I removed a long list you'd added of nearly every character to appear in the series... and now you've just added it back. I was hoping that instead of continuing to go back and forth like this, with you trying to dump every bit of trivia you know about Static (and other Milestone stuff) into Wikipedia, and others of us trying to edit it down into something more appropriate, you could save us all a lot of time and frustration by building a comprehensive guide to this material on another site, and meanwhile help Wikipedia produce an overview of the material. That way you don't need to worry about other people deleting your hard work. Tverbeek 12:53, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I support what Tverbeek says. --Paul A 01:00, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I ment on the Comicbook pages

User:Mare-Silverus 11:12, 2, Mar 2005

These are not fan pages. This is an encyclopedia. Marketing slogans do not belong on encyclopedia articles. Please stop it. Tverbeek 23:01, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Those arn't slogans, their quotes from the comics and the series; Virgil/Static said "after the Big-Bang nothing is impossible" to Richie in Childs Play, series 1, after a fountain starts spraying Cherry soda instead of water and Daisy tells Virgil & Richie about the Vanilla ice cream.

User:Mare-Silverus 22:40, 29, Mar 2005

Regardless, they don't belong there. If you want to know what sort of material is appropriate for Wikipedia, look at other similar articles on Wikipedia for examples. Tverbeek 01:30, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Whoever's doing it isn't logging in, but it looks like your work: Please stop putting those quotes at the top of articles. I've explained to you before that they don't belong there. Tverbeek 13:19, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Response

[edit]

To Tverbeek. Yes it's me; some time ago, my home computer crashed and now I can't log back in, every time I try it won't work. As for the Static Shock Article, yes thats me; I spent ages writing all those articles in the first place and I do not appreciate you messing with them, stop trying to merge/redirect the articles on to the Static Shock page, I do not appreciate you vandalising my hard work - the page is too long - I once tried to ease this by putting the Heroes, Family, Neutrals & the Villains new pages but someone else put it all back to the way it was. Its nice that your adding information, but I spent ages writing it and just because here in England Toonami hasn't shown Series 3 & 4 of Static Shock doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about, to make sure what I write is accurate I watched the Episodes of Series 1 & 2 over and over for clarity, and as for the Quotes their to "Brake the Ice", they help to start an article.

User:Mare-Silverus 14:35, 17, May 2005

I appreciate that you put a lot of work into it, and I'm certainly not questioning whether you know what you're writing about. But that doesn't mean it has to stay the way you wrote it, and that no one else's opinion matters. Making changes is not vandalism if there are legitimate reasons for them, and I believe that the changes I've been making are appropriate. Wikipedia has standards for style and content, and I've been trying to work with what you've written to fit the parts that are appropriate into Wikipedia.

But frankly, a lot of the data you're dumping into these articles just doesn't belong here. If someone comes to Wikipedia looking for information about Static Shock, they probably don't want to read a description of every character's life story, or plot summaries of every episode. They just want to know the highlights: who they are, what their powers are, what their relationship to the main character is. We certainly don't need a separate article for every character who appears in the series, as you seem to want. The kind of detailed information you want to include here, a comprehensive record of everything you know about the show, would be far more appropriate on a fan site. There are plenty of places that will let you set one up. I'd even be willing to help.

If you disagree with how I'm editing the articles, that's OK. It happens on Wikipedia all the time. That's why there are dispute resolution procedures to resolve them. Mainly they involve getting other people's opinions, so it isn't just two people going back and forth. If it turns out that they say that the way you want the articles is better than the way I want them (or somewhere in between), I'll accept that. Would you? Tverbeek 14:16, 17 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

== Hey, we're coming up to almost a year since you joined Wikipedia. Good to see that you've been adding so much Milestone-related info (although in some cases, it's even too much, but that's what other editors are for).DS 05:18, 21 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for not biting me!

[edit]

Mare-Silverus, when I first came to wikipedia, I, just like you, had a fasciation with Static Shock. I edited a few things, and didn't realize how the process worked. You rv'd some of my edits, and made the page beautiful again. I was the annonymous user who appologized on the Talk:Static (superhero) page, who appologized for what seemed to me like a terrible mistake. You didn't bite me as a newcomer, and you made it so I felt it was possible to be where I am today, at nearly 800 edits. Thank you for not biting me, and good job with your articles! Thanks again, Sunglasses at night

I'm Back

[edit]

Sorry.

Our home-computer crashed (at least seven times in eight days) - my younger brother tried to fix it but failed - and so we had to get a new CPU, and my parents will be paying for it for a while.

I have been on the site, but have unti now been unable to log-in. But see:

And so forth - that was me, being unable to log-in, but on site. But now we have a new CPU, and I,m loged-in, and working on things like Static Shock - as soon as they start showing series 3 & 4 on Toonami here in England, on Sep-06; and I have been working on articles for Wikipedia's The 10th Kingdom page.

I thought you'd given up on your addition of trivia into Wikipedia, but I guess obssessive behavior doesn't go away that easily. I'm asking you: please cut it out. Tverbeek 16:21, 24 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

So you're back to pretending you can't hear me. Will you listen to - and respond to - a mediator? Tverbeek 14:01, 25 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Because of a new term of college, I can only come online once every few days, or I'll be on all night, and be late for college.

User:Mare-Silverus 09:22, 28, Sept 2005

If you have time to make the edits, you have time to discuss them. And if you have time to explain this, you have time to answer my question about mediation. Tverbeek 20:52, 28 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No I don't have time in case you don't notice this fact, I'm answering this during the early hours of the morning, because my younger brother like to take his time on the computer, and my parents are going on about the power bill. I was the one of the ones who started that entry; and I was the one who contributated the most information on the characters, with details that are known only when you watch the episodes repeatedly, and Toonami has only just started showing seasons 3 & 4 here in Great Britain, so now I'm updating information.

And when I'm giving details about the characters, I don't just say Oh he has superstrength or something, any character could have superstrength; I try to include any additional details I've observed, like any drives the characters have. I also intend to, at some point, give details and comparisons for the characters who appear in both the Milestone comics and the Static Shock animated series. So no I'm not at liberty to come at beck & call to disscuss the entries and any additional I contribute.

And for you're information, I do not have "obssessive behavior" as you put it; I have Asperger Syndrome, and if you're making fun of me because of that then it's not funny because I get enougth of that from my younger brother and his friends.

User:Mare-Silverus 02:20, 29, Sept 2005

I don't care about your diagnosis; I care about the way you edit. The fact that you spend so much time adding so much detail about these minor characters from watching and rewatching the show - way out of proportion to the needs of a well-written encyclopedia - is part of the problem. This is not an appropriate place for you to give your thoughts about what drives the characters, or compare them to other characters. It is wasting my time, trying to deal with your trivia dumps. And the fact that you persistently ignore my requests to discuss things, and instead insist on doing whatever the hell you want, makes you little better than a vandal. This is why I have repeatedly requested mediation. If you don't have the time - for whatever reason - to edit constructively with other editors, then you aren't contributing positively to Wikipedia. Spurious etymology

[edit]

Mare, I know you're trying, but the explanation you provided for the origin of the termm "meta-human" is wrong.

"Meta" does NOT refer to "meta-morphed human" with a connection to Morpheus, god of dreams. It absolutely doesn't. I don't care where you heard it or where you got that idea, it's wrong. "Metamorph" is from "meta" (beyond) and "morph" (shape), The etymological connection with Morpheus is because, as the god of dreams, he is beyond any one shape (just like dreams that are never the same).

Metaphysics, metastability, metahumor, metamorph - in all these words, the prefix "meta" means "beyond". Please stop trying to insert it into articles.

I apologize if this upsets you; I don't mean to be a jerk, and I definitely don't want to mock you. DS 17:11, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for that, you are not a jerk, it's just that someone else gave me the conection to "Meta" and "Metamorphed" to mean that something or someone that has changed. As for the referance to Morpheus, I was thinking of the name "Metemorpho" from JL/JLU.

User:Mare-Silverus 00:37, 28, Oct 2005

Just because you think that maybe there's some connection between "metamorph" and "metahuman" or you think that maybe Richie Foley is named after the "foley artist" on a movie (the garbage I just had to remove again from Gear (Static Shock)) that does not belong in Wikipedia. That's speculation, and guesses are specifically not welcome here. Do you not understand this rule? Or do you not care? Tverbeek 00:55, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It was a note of Trivia put under trivia on the character Richie 'Gear' Foley, I noted this 'possible' connection from a Danny Phantom Character Tucker Foley's trivia - before that I didn't know what 'Foley' meant.

Over a bit of trivia, you certainly seem overly uptight about this.

User:Mare-Silverus 02:45, 05, Nov 2005

That's because I care about the goals of Wikipedia, and you are acting against them. It is not a place for speculation and trivia. It is for noteworthy, verified facts. Do you understand that? Tverbeek 16:38, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalization practices

[edit]

I notice that you've established Category:Fictional Heroines, which is now populated by over 200 articles. Unfortunately, this has created a considerable amount of maintenance work, as someone is going to have to go through these 200+ articles and change "Category:Fictional Heroines" to "Category:Fictional heroines", per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (capitalization), not to mention doing a speedy-rename for the category. I don't want to discourage enthusiatic editing, but the more you contribute, the more important it is to know the style guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 04:52, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fictional heroes

[edit]

Please stop adding this category to articles. In all of the cases I've looked at, this is a redundancy because they are already in a subcat of Superheroes. CovenantD 20:05, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We appreciate your contributions to the Wendell Winston Walter White (The 10th Kingdom) article, but we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. Hi; concerning your recent category. I think the correct category for female villains should be called Category:Villainesses. By default, villains are fictional, and the correct term for the plural of villainess is villainesses. --DrBat 19:52, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]

Hi, Mare. Good to hear from you again.

Adding an image to a Wikipedia article is relatively easy.

First, is the image already part of Wikipedia? Or is it from somewhere else?

If it's not part of Wikipedia yet, the next question, before you upload it, is this: do you have legal permission to use the image?

If it's your image, something that you made yourself in Paint or Photoshop or a similar program, or something that you photographed yourself, then yes, you definitely do. Note that photos or scans of published material do not count.

If it's an image that belongs to someone else, then we might be able to use it. Describe the image for me - provide me with a URL that I can look at, and tell me why you want to use it. I'll let you know. DS 17:12, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ah. Taken from an external website... that could be a problem, especially if it doesn't exist any more. Might it be possible to find the website via Archive.org? Did the external website create the image, or did they themselves take it from somewhere else? DS 17:44, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for Deletion

[edit]

Hello Mare, I thought you might be interested to know that a number of articles you have been contributing to lately are being nominated for deletion here. Judging by the other comments on your user_talk page it would seem that before you provide input on the matter of their future that you should probably read Wikipedia:No_original_research in relation to information you have added that is speculative, or of your own thoughts and opinions. Also, please see Wikipedia:Fancruft#Tone and focus. If you would like to discuss the matter further, please feel free to drop me a line on my user talk page. Happy editing! Ardent 23:52, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is no need to have the parenthesis in this article. Please stop putting it back. The Prince of Darkness 18:23, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I started the article; the (Biker Mice from Mars) bit is added to show that she is a character of fiction and not to be confused with a person who may coincidently have that same name. I would however appreciate it if you could help me expand on this article, I'm still trying to see the rest of the classic series, but for some reason they aren't showing the rest of it here in Britian.

User:Mare-Silverus 20:18, 15, Jun 2007

If the person you are referring to isn't notable, there is no point og having the parenthesis. I beg you to stop reinserting it. The Prince of Darkness 20:01, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am warning you. If you continue, you will be blocked by an administrator. The Prince of Darkness 12:18, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
TPoD is right, per naming conventions, if no one else has that name then you don't distinguish like that. I understand what you are doing, because I'd think it would be easier if it was like that, but it isn't. What I do think is that there should be {{other|Harley Davidson}} placed at the top, in case someone accidentally types in a "C" when they are looking for the motocycle manufacturer. It's just like if the name of a television show episode doesn't show up anywhere on Wikipedia (lets call it "The Day of Dread", and the series is called Dying) then you wouldn't put "The Day of Dread (Dying)" as the name, you'd just simply put "The Day of Dread". But, if later there comes a time when another thing must share that name on Wikipedia, then you have to specify which each is going to. Like, there isn't another Jason Voorhees on Wikipedia, so we don't have to say Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th). Does that help explain why we wouldn't put "Biker Mice from Mars" in the name? The opening sentence is going to identify her as a character from the show. Bignole 13:05, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I can agree with the above arguement--But why do you also keep deleting the information about the Last Chance Garage as well?

In response

[edit]

Last month, you asked me how you can add images to articles. I apologize for not having replied sooner, but I've been quite busy.

The first step in adding an image is to upload the image onto Wikipedia; you should give it a suitably descriptive name that will not conflict with any pre-existing filenames. More importantly, you must select the appropriate copyright tag, otherwise the image may well be deleted. If the image is "fair use", you must provide a "rationale", explaining why it is fair use.

Once the image exists on Wikipedia, all you have to do is add the image's name to the article code, like so: [[Image:Example.jpg]].

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me. I can't promise to answer quickly, but I will answer. DS 22:20, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Napoleon Brie, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Valerie Gray (disambiguation). We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Valerie Gray (disambiguation) (2nd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Marvel Beauty and the Beast comics on Disney Wiki

[edit]

Hi.

I'd ask you on Disney Wiki directly, but I've been banned until May of this year, so I'm going to ask you this much:

Do you still plan on making synopses for the various Marvel Comics issues for Beauty and the Beast (and maybe also Marvel Comics' The Little Mermaid issues)? You stopped with Lyrical Love, and although I'd do it myself, 1., like I said, I've been banned from that wiki until May 23 of this year, and 2., I tend to get far too detailed regarding synopses, so I wouldn't be of much help even if I weren't banned. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 20:50, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I still plan to do the synopsis, but only for the Beauty and the Beast (Marvel Comics), as they're the only ones I've read; I have been busy, computer courses, etc. Sorry to keep you waiting.

Your recent edits

[edit]

Hi, Mare-Silverus. I'm an administrator here on Wikipedia. Someone recently filed a sock puppetry case against you at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Mare-Silverus. It's obvious that you've been edit warring as both an IP editor and using your logged-in username. This is against Wikipedia's rules. The main reason is because it gives people the mistaken impression that there are multiple people who support the edit. The second is because we limit the number of reverts someone can make per 24-hour period. Making more than three reverts on the same article in 24 hours can get you blocked. So, you can understand why we'd want you to stick to using one account in the article. You can still edit while logged out, but you should either publicly identify the edits as yours or be careful not to give people the impression you're trying to evade sanctions. In any case, when someone reverts one of your edits, you should discuss the edit on the talk page. You shouldn't immediately revert back. Even if you stay under three reverts per day, you can still be blocked. Don't let that happen. Try instead to talk things out with your fellow editors. Many times, they'll listen to you and be willing to compromise. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 02:34, 10 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Gaston edit on Disney Wiki.

[edit]

Hi.

Addressing the edit here since I'm still banned on Disney Wiki until May 24.

Anyways, you added in the following to the Gaston article on there:

"(forgeting that Belle isn't native to the village)"

I don't think it ever said WHEN she moved to the village, just that she moved there. She could have moved to the village when she was three years old for all we know (think Anakin Skywalker and Shmi moving to Tatooine in Phantom Menace), so I'm not sure that would have been needed for that edit. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 00:17, 13 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

By "(forgeting that Belle isn't native to the village)", I was referring to the fact that Belle wasn't raised to be like the other girls born and raised in the village.

Mare-Silverus (talk) 18:25, 13 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough.

BTW, since you've managed to find the time to make those edits, think you can post the synopses for the Marvel Comic serial issues in their respective articles? I know Dove Tales (both parts), A Masterpiece for the Master, Deck the Halls for Belle with Holly, Belle, Book and Castle, Bound to Surprise and The Dessert Disaster (maybe also the Winter Wonderland mini-story Magical Memories as well) are in dire need of plot synopses. Kinchaku moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Kinchaku, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Kinchaku, a page you created, has not been edited in 5 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 01:39, 29 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Heroes (comics) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Your draft article, Draft:Kinchaku

[edit]

Hello, Mare-Silverus. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Kinchaku".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! ~riley (talk) 08:30, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
