DAB?

There is also an astronomer at the University of Minnesota named Jessica Ennis, so we may require a disambiguation page. -P.E. Robinson

I do not think that we do, because that person is not anyone of note. There are doubtlessly lots of people with that name, but unless they're important enough to have their own article, we shouldn't bother with things like that. John Smith's 10:27, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Throws

Worth mentioning that if she improved to 14.83 for SP and 49.46 for JT, she would reach 7000 points? This would highlight the problem she has with these events. Thatlot!! —Preceding signed but undated comment was added at 19:28, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

High Jump PB

Although Jess has jumped 6.51, it wasn't ratified by the IAAF (probably because it was wind-assisted). SO, her PBs should say 6.44m. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.105.20.244 (talk) 09:30, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't this be "Long Jump PB" here, not "High Jump"?

Flag

Can someone fix the flag on the medal list as it says she competes for teh UK, she competes for GB in fact. KnowIG (talk) 02:02, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The UK is GB! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.155.55.70 (talk) 21:24, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not. UK is GB+Northern Ireland. Go look at UK page. Makes the Olympics 'team GB' a bit of a joke cos there are Northern Irish athletes present as well.1812ahill (talk) 03:49, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"Team GB" is actually "Team GB & NI". The team represents the UK and is badly named. See Team GB - "The brand is seen as controversial by some for focussing on Great Britain, at the expense of Northern Ireland, the Crown dependencies and those British Overseas Territories represented by the BOA, with critics suggesting it be changed to Team UK, something the BOA has so far rejected." Davorg (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 07:21, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your point is an excellent one - I have made a similar point at the talk page of the page on Team GB. Here, I point out that if there are people from Northern Ireland in any of the U.K. teams, we should not really say "Team G.B.". ACEOREVIVED (talk) 14:21, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

However the point remains that the team is officially branded as "TeamGB" and that is its common name; and it uses the Union Jack as its flag for medal ceremonies etc.--ukexpat (talk) 14:30, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Weight error

it's impossible that she weighs 130 lbs / 57 kg, since 57 kg does NOT equal 130 lbs. 57 kg = 125.663 lbs, while 130 lbs = 58.967 lbs. So which one is it?

Is it 57 kg/125.6 lbs or 59kg/130 lbs? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.112.47.209 (talk) 00:47, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The reference gives 57 kg - the pounds is just a result of our conversion routines. If you want to take up the conversion problem then use this talk page. Keith D (talk) 21:50, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm... actually, 57kg=125.4lbs (kg x 2.2 =lbs). ( -: 99.171.229.222 (talk) 02:02, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ennis is British

I hate it when you find WikiArticles that say MrSmith is an English and British........ It is absolutely ridiculous. If you are English, you are British, there is no need to say both; it is, in fact, incorrect to say both. As she competes for Team GB and Great Britain; she is British. You would not say: 'Steve Jobs is a Californian and American businessman........' that would be ridiculous. Johnxsmith (talk) 23:12, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tell that to all the Scottish and Welsh editors who continually change "British" to "Scottish" or "Welsh". Yes, "English and British" is ridiculous, but there's no issue with saying "English", unless we're going to apply the same rule to the other Home Nations, which would never be accepted. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:50, 31 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

She is English, so it should say English not British. PLEASE WILL SOMEONE CHANGE IT TO ENGLISH NOT BRITISH as this is less accurate and British can mean other countries.

You comparison is silly and makes no sense, about Californian and American. If we did that like you said I would be CUMBRIAN AND ENGLISH not English and British. Get what I mean?

I agree with you Necrothesp. If people are English it should be ENGLISH! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.222.147.162 (talk) 00:51, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jessica Ennis-Hill

Could somebody change the title of the page to reflect her matrimonial name and leave "Jessica Ennis" as a redirect? — Preceding unsigned comment added by RogueTrader101 (talkcontribs) 21:05, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Change name throughout?

Now that she is known as "Jessica Ennis-Hill", shouldn't we change "Ennis" to "Ennis-Hill" throughout?--ukexpat (talk) 17:01, 5 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Black?

Do we actually know the ethnicity/race of her father? --109.149.121.174 (talk) 17:52, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The article mentions her father is from Jamaica. SFB 19:24, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Jamaica is home to mixed race and other ethnic groups, but they're a minority so the chances are her father is black (but judging by her skin colour I would say possibly mixed? Anyway, my opinion is not relevant!). 109.149.121.174 (talk) 14:11, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Results section

The section of the article with the detailed results seems to be getting too big and unwieldy, would anyone have any objection if it was replaced with a table such as the one below?

"Former"

"She is also the former Olympic champion". There isn't a "former Olympic champion", they are Olympic champions forever of that edition of the Games. The title lasts forever. There's only "former record holders" because someone breaks it someday. Just saying. Bad information. MachoCarioca (talk) 01:00, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Is this an attempt glorify cheating?

David Biddulph, how is the following paragraph appropriate?:

"At the 2011 World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea, Ennis originally finished second to Tatyana Chernova, who was disqualified for failing retrospective doping testing,[76] with a score of 6,751 points, 129 points behind the Chernova and 72 points below her own personal best of 6,823 points. Ennis beat Chernova in five of the seven events, Chernova scored 251 more points in the javelin (52.95 metres, compared with Ennis's best throw of 39.95 metres). Ennis registered personal bests of 14.67 metres in the shot put and 2 minutes 7.81 seconds in the 800 metres, whilst also equalling her best of 6.51 metres in the long jump.[77]"

None of Chernova's performances stood – she was disqualified. As it stands the article appears to accept cheating. If a comparison is to be made should it not be to scores and/or performances that stood, i.e. by other athletes that were not disqualified? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Civilization28 (talkcontribs) 00:16, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In your proposed change you left in the statement that she finished second to Chernova, but tried to remove the fact that she beat Chernova in five of the seven events and that the deficit was largely down the javelin. The article in no way accepts cheating, nor does it glorify cheating as this section heading suggests. I see no justification for your proposed change, but we'll see what other editors think. --David Biddulph (talk) 00:26, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
