1"Extraordinary Attorney Woo"June 29, 2022 (2022-06-29)N/A

Woo Young-woo is a little Korean girl on the autism spectrum who has yet to speak, despite consultations with specialists. Her first words finally come when she witnesses her father being attacked by a jealous husband/neighbor. In the heat of the moment, Young-woo begins loudly citing legal definitions of various degrees of physical assault that she has memorized from her father's legal library, verbatim. This launches her in the direction of a legal career.

We next see Young-woo as she begins her first day at the Hanbada law firm after graduating at the top of her class at Seoul National University. She is assigned to the team of senior attorney Jung Myung-seok, who does not want the awkward newcomer on his team. He gets assurances from CEO Han Seon-young that he can dismiss Young-woo if she mishandles her first case. This turns out to be an assault case of a wife on her husband. It is set to be plea bargained with a guilty plea to attempted murder with only a sentence of probation. Young-woo correctly points out that such a plea would invalidate the woman's pension, leaving her destitute. In court, Young-woo extracts testimony from a medical expert that the husband could have been rendered unconscious by an underlying subdural hematoma on his brain and not any physical blows, of which there were no physical symptoms. The court agrees to reduce the charge to assault, which is accepted, and the wife receives a sentence of probation, with her pension intact.

Young-woo is aided in her transition to Hanbada by her colleague, Lee Joon-ho, as she navigates such everyday trivialities like their office building's revolving door.
2"The Wedding Dress That Slipped Off"June 30, 2022 (2022-06-30)0.396

Kim Hwa Young is getting married at the Daehyeon Hotel, which stages all-inclusive weddings. After the vows are exchanged, the bride and groom begin their wedding march. The bride is distracted and steps on her skirt, pulling down her entire dress. Her bosom is exposed in the front and a tattoo of the Buddha is exposed in the back. Her father, Kim Jeong Gu, is humiliated and demands compensation.

Jeong Gu is asking for 1 billion won in damages and is dissatisfied with the hotel's offer of a refund of the 230 million won he paid for the wedding and 10 million won in damages. Jeong Gu's law firm said the offer was reasonable, so he meets with Hanbada to find out if they can do better. Initially, they also say the offer is reasonable, but Young-Woo interjects. A wedding gift of 33.2 billion won worth of land to the bride's family will not occur due to the botched wedding, which Young-Woo suggests entitles Jeong Gu to special damages in that amount. A settlement offer of 10% of that amount (3.32 billion won) is turned down by the hotel, leading to a civil trial. During the trial, Kim Hwa Young, the bride who is the actual aggrieved party, withdraws the lawsuit, tells her father she is in fact a Buddhist, doesn't love their choice for an arranged husband, and is going to be with her true love, her girlfriend Kang Ji Hye.

Meanwhile, Lee Joon-ho begins to look at Young-Woo in a different light after seeing her in a wedding dress at the Daehyeon Hotel while they were on an undercover assignment investigating the hotel's handling of their wedding dresses.
3"This Is Pengsoo"July 6, 2022 (2022-07-06)1.069

Young-woo becomes involved in a case involving two brothers, one a brilliant medical student at SNU, the other is autistic with the capacity of a six to ten year old. Their parents come home to find the autistic son apparently attacking the other son, who dies. The young man had a blood alcohol level of .30, multiple broken ribs, and a faint mark on his neck. The autistic son is charged in the attack. The father is a Hanbada client and asks them to handle the defense. Hoping her autism might help with communication, Myung-Seok's team, including Young-woo, are assigned to the case.

During their investigation, the team learns that the deceased brother had attempted suicide multiple times and they develop the theory that the autistic brother was attempting to perform CPR, resulting in the broken ribs on the front of the deceased's rib cage. The parents, however, cannot accept that their brilliant son was that unhappy, and they wish to suppress any information about suicide attempts.

In court, the prosecution attempts to use Young-woo's obviously high-functioning autism to argue against diminished capacity for the defendant. It is asked that Young-woo be removed from the case, and the case is assigned to the team of another senior attorney. Distraught about these developments, Young-woo attempts suicide by hanging in her office. Lee Joon-ho catches her in the act and saves her. They fall to the floor and the impact gives Young-woo an insight into how the deceased had gotten broken ribs on the back of his rib cage.

Back in court, these arguments are advanced and the charges are reduced to bodily injury and the autistic son is ruled as mentally incompetent.

Following these developments, Young-woo composes a letter of resignation, cleans out her office, removes the nameplate from her door, and leaves Hanbada law firm.

Scale of Weights

[edit]

The scale of weights is a system of thoroughbred horse race handicapping devised in the mid-19th century by Admiral Henry John Rous, steward of the Jockey Club of England. It is intended to equalize the performance of horses of different ages and sexes at a variety of distances.[1]

-In races of intermediate lengths, the weights for the shorter distance are carried.

-In races exclusively for 3-year-olds or 4-year-olds, the weight shall be 126 pounds, and in races exclusively for 2-year-olds, it shall be 122 pounds.

-In a race, except handicaps and races where the conditions expressly state to the contrary, the scale of weights shall be less, by the following: for fillies 2 years old, 3 pounds; for mares 3 years old and upwards, 5 pounds, before September 1 and 3 pounds thereafter.

-In all overnight races except handicaps, not more than 6 pounds may be deducted from the scale of weights for age, except for allowances, but in no case may the total allowances of any type reduce the lowest weight below 101 pounds, except that this minimum weight need not apply to 2-year-olds or 3-year-olds when racing with older horses.

-In overnight handicaps and in claiming handicaps, the top weight may not be less than 122 pounds.

-Weight penalties are obligatory.

-Weight allowance, including apprentice allowance, shall be claimed at time of overnight entry.

-The weight allowance may not be abandoned after the posting of entries except by consent of the stewards.

-Penalties and allowances of weight are not cumulative, unless so declared by the conditions of a race.

-A horse shall start with only the allowance of weight to which he is entitled at the time of starting, regardless of his allowance at the time of entry.

-A horse incurring weight penalties for a race is not entitled to the weight allowances for that race.

-A horse not entitled to the first weight allowance in a race is not entitled to the second, and so on.

-A claim of weight allowance to which a horse is not entitled does not disqualify unless protest is made in writing and lodged with the stewards at least 60 minutes before post time.

-A horse may not incur a weight penalty or be barred from a race for having been placed second or lower in a race.

-A horse may not be given a weight allowance for failure to finish second or in any lower place in a race.

-Penalties incurred in steeplechase or hurdle races do not apply to races on the flat or vice versa.

-When the decision of a race is in dispute, the horses involved in the dispute with respect to the credit of the winner shall be liable to the weight penalties attached to the winning of that race until a winner has been adjudged.

-Eligibility, penalties and allowances of weight for races will be determined after considering the reports, records and statistics published by the Daily Racing Form and Morning Telegraph.

-A race not reported in Daily Racing Form or Morning Telegraph may not be considered unless otherwise stated in the conditions of the race, except that, in the case of an imported horse, the racing record of the horse shall be filed with the racing secretary prior to time entry is made to qualify for eligibility. This section does not apply in the classification of maidens.

-A horse may not incur a weight penalty for a placement from which he is disqualified, but a horse placed through the disqualification of another horse shall incur the weight penalties of that placement.

-A horse involved in a dead heat for first place is liable to weight penalty for the amount received.

Plot

[edit]

Leonard and Penny are concluding their date that began during the Season 1 finale. As they share a kiss, Leonard notices a remote controlled webcam observing their activities. Desiring privacy, Leonard suggests that they go into Penny's apartment, which she misinterprets as an attempt to "go fast" (get more intimate). Leonard attempts to set a second date, but Penny responds that they should slow things down and "wing it". Inside his apartment, Leonard confronts Howard about his spying. They argue over interpretation of how the date went: Leonard opines that slowing things down is an attempt to savor the progress of the relationship, while Howard likens the slowing down to tasting a bad piece of fish and preparing to spit it out.

Later, Penny and Sheldon run into each other in the apartment building's laundry room. Penny inquires about Leonard's past love interests, their education, and their levels of intelligence. Penny confesses that she lied to Leonard about completing community college. She admonishes Sheldon to keep her secret, to which Sheldon protests, professing an inability to be secretive and deceptive. Penny informs Sheldon that friendship requires the keeping of confidences, and he will have to find a way to do so. Sheldon then expresses surprise that they have become friends.
