Question from Badlucksuks (15:36, 6 April 2024)

Hello. Can you please explain to me how to add citations on a phone. --Badlucksuks (talk) 15:36, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, @Badlucksuks! There really isn't a way to automatically add citations on mobile; it'll have to be manually added via <ref> tags on the source editor. ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 21:39, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, I tried it in the format given on the website, the one you told, and it doesn't work. Can you please send me an example? Badlucksuks (talk) 07:11, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here's an example, Badlucksuks! <ref>{{cite web|last=Clash|first=Jim|date=June 13, 2023|url=https://www.forbes.com/sites/jimclash/2023/06/13/riders-on-the-storms-tornado-chasings-all-the-rage/?sh=449999e45fb5|title=Riders On The Storms: Tornado Chasing's All The Rage|access-date=April 13, 2024|website=[[Forbes]]}}</ref>.
The example above produces a citation here.[1] The same can be produced with other references, and you can change the parameters to account for the citations you're adding! ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 14:28, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your help. Now I owe you. XD Badlucksuks (talk) 17:58, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

April music

story · music · places

I like to see Appalachian Spring on the Main page today (not by me, just interested and reviewed, and a bit proud that I brought the woman's pic to lead and Main page), and I also made it my story. - How do you like the statue (see places)? I was undecided so show three versions ;) -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:27, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, @Gerda Arendt! I saw Appalachian Spring on TFA–I recognized Aaron Copland, a familiar and famous songwriter! I too, liked seeing it. :) ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 01:39, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! - Today I see Marian Anderson as my top story (by NBC, 1939), and below (on my talk) three people with raised arms, - and the place is the cherry blossom in Frauenstein. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:49, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
plum tree blossom for Kalevi Kiviniemi in the snow - see my talk --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:13, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gerda Arendt, I sometimes like music involving the use of organs – I haven't heard of Kiviniemi or his music, but I promise I'll give his concerts, compositions, and music a listen! It's sad and unfortunate that he passed away on April 3. :( ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 02:29, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! - My story today is about a piece composed for the Second Sunday after Easter 300 years ago, and I just returned from a (long) opera about the same age, with soprano Pretty Yende --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:23, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Six RD articles (including Kiviniemi who kindly played on our organ and fell in love with it) were followed by two birthdays in a row, and I prefer those (see my talk). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:47, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
today a sad task - memory of Andrew Davis - turned into entertainment (yt at the bottom of his article, actually both) -- the latest pictures capture extreme weather --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:51, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have again a rather sad story on the Main page, - yesterday's double bass story was more fun. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:05, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Kvenkat07 (18:49, 11 April 2024)

Hello,

I just published my draft of Chettinad Mansions. Will this now be reviewed by an editor? --Kvenkat07 (talk) 18:49, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Kvenkat07: Yep! Later on, when a new page patroller comes by and checks for any issues regarding the article before reviewing. Before it's reviewed, I suggest that your article, Chettinad Mansions, is linked to other pages to de-orphan it. Additionally, why not add some categories – it's currently uncategorized! ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 02:24, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok great, thanks so much! I added two categories and linked two articles to it. Kvenkat07 (talk) 16:40, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

teach

Hey, I want to learn about counter-vandalism, can you please teach me? RainbowBambi (talk) 14:29, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, @RainbowBambi! So, counter-vandalism is just reverting vandalism on affected articles. However, you should be aware of what vandalism is, and what's not vandalism. If you'd like to start, feel free to undo vandalism, and make sure to warn the vandalizing editor! There's also a few tools you can use to make the reverting and warning process easier. Feel free to ask any further questions or for clarification, if necessary! :) ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 15:14, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The article September 2023 New York floods you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:September 2023 New York floods for comments about the article, and Talk:September 2023 New York floods/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article is eligible to appear in the "Did you know" section of the Main Page, you can nominate it within the next seven days. A one-year anniversary, awesome! Thanks for that, @Gerda Arendt! Now, since I was added for my storm chases, nearly three weeks ago, a severe-warned storm had me nabbing these pictures, and most recently, yesterday! Question from Craig Dodge (06:57, 22 April 2024)

Hi Tails, I'm happy to see you as a mentor. I recently submitted a page and an admin quickly flagged it for immediate deletion. Reason given was they perceived it as a business promotion. Indeed Phare The Cambodian Circus is a business.... it's the social enterprise extension of Phare Ponleu Selpak non-profit school, which already has a Wikipedia page. Both have been recognized by public and private sector for the impact they have on the community. I disclosed at the outset that I indeed work for the organization, but that doesn't lessen the impact of the organization. I included ample references for the statements from third party reliable sources, including the NYT, VOA and BI. I'm not sure what more I could have done to be impartial. Your guidance is welcome and would be appreciated. --Craig Dodge (talk) 06:57, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Craig Dodge: Hi, and welcome. Sadly, Tails couldn't respond in time hence it's me helping an old friend. I hope I'll answer to all of your questions. Every entry in English Wikipedia must be written in neutral tone, and satisfy general notability criteria. Sounds like you had problems with the first one. I don't know what was written in the draft as I do not possess advanced rights to see it Speedy deletion of your draft was declined and is still standing, not every deletion notice is an end of the world. I strongly suggest reading a guideline on oftenly problematic words as well as what Wikipedia is not. Your draft will be accepted if it will be written in an appropriate tone as well have reliable cited sources that will prove the subject suffices notability criteria for organizations. A09|(talk) 20:44, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @A09, thanks for the information. If you have access to the draft page, can you see my updated edit and advise whether this is more likely to pass muster? Craig Dodge (talk) 04:10, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Craig Dodge: Sorry for a late response. I've taken a look at your draft and it's not bad, however I suggest some further improvments before resubmition. Some sentences are supported by a source connected to the subject and I suggest adding some neutral independent references. Moreover I'd add additional references beside ref nr. 11. In conclusion, well written with some minor improvments in need of attention. Sincerely, A09|(talk) 18:58, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you again. Your guidance is greatly appreciated. I've added references where noted. Corrected some language and added a couple additional milestones. The citations connected to the subject are the best I can find that describe the organization structure. As has been recommended by another, once submitted and if published, I will request edits from others. However, I'm wondering if the ample amount of third-party sources don't already validate credibility? Craig Dodge (talk) 22:54, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @Craig Dodge, I'm able to respond now; with thanks to @A09 for their help! Anyway, if the citations are connected to the subject, they're primary sources. While using primary sources isn't disallowed, I encourage using secondary, independent sources over primary sources. As for that, I did find this secondary source that could help than using those primary sources!
And yeah, there's a good amount of significant coverage in secondary (third-party, basically), reliable sources in your draft, which includes CNN, Christian Science Monitor, and Voice of America. However, I'm seeing a bit of citation overkill in the Recognition and milestone section, so that could be cleaned up as well! Feel free to ask A09 or me for any further help or questions! :) ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 01:58, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Tails Wx, welcome back and thank you for your feedback. Question about your concern about citation overkill in the recognition and milestone section: Should there not be a citation for each milestone? Would it be better to list fewer milestones? Craig Dodge (talk) 02:03, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Craig Dodge: So, ya see there's multiple references for one statement in that section? If there's a source which mentions that altogether, then that single source could be used rather than multiple references. If there isn't, then a few references could be used for the specific information (e.g. milestone in this case). In this case, say, here:
The theater has been praised for it's circus troupes who have presented in platforms both locally and internationally including Ringling International Arts Festival, Oz Asia Festival in Adelaide, Australia, La Tohu in Montreal, the New Victory Theater in New York, and Sydney Festival in Sydney, Australia. Their production, "White Gold" received acclaim as a "Critic Pick" in The New York Times in December 2023..[10][11][12][13][14]
So, there's five references, right? I think there could be either unnecessary references that could be removed (if they don't mention the information above), or the sources can be moved to the end of each specific festival (if the source mentions the specific festival that the circus performed for). Let me know if ya need any further clarification! :) ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 02:15, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Hypeconomist (09:10, 24 April 2024)

Hey, I have a problem with former employee who overstated his role in my company.

He has a vanity article about himself, with false information and false proofs.

Can you suggest a proper editing way, I am new to this. --Hypeconomist (talk) 09:10, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, @Hypeconomist! So, if you believe there is information that is not verified in reliable sources, then it is okay to either tag the information with {{citation needed}} or simply remove it if it is unsourced. However, you did stated it is for a "former employee", a conflict-of-interest might be in play here. COI editing is strongly discouraged; you can click on the link leading to the COI page for further information related to it. Otherwise, you can request an edit request on the article's talk page, if the conflict-of-interest is present. Thanks! :) ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 01:00, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

2023 NY Floods

So funny enough, just days after you got the article to a GAN, the NYC government issued a report on the floods. I don't think there's too much that isn't in the article, so it's not a major issue, but just wanted to give you a heads up about the new source, in case there's anything worth adding. A lot of it is criticism of the administration for not being prepared enough. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:43, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That's interesting, @Hurricanehink; I had already added information about the New York City comptoller opening an investigation into the city's handling of the floods, but I wasn't aware that the New York City government issued a report about the conclusion of the investigation several days after the GAN. Thanks for the heads-up, Hurricanehink, I'll add that very soon! :) ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 01:04, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hah, yea, I wasn't sure if it popped up in my Google news feed because I was looking at it the other day, or because I often click on weather topics, but yea, I thought it was funny that the report would come out so soon after the GAN. No rush, the article is stable, and it's not like there's a significant amount of info that's gonna be missing. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:33, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Training in Counter-Vandalism

Hello, I am a new Wikipedian, and would like to learn how to fight vandals. Notice

The article Tornado outbreak of April 26, 2024 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

As proposed deletion before, the event hasn't even completely unfolded yet. Move it to a draft until it is actually over, then re-assess. See the talks about the April 1-3, 2024 outbreak article for further context.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. MemeGod ._. (talk) 23:47, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Tails Wx Hi, TailsWX! I just saw your response on Tornadoes of 2024 and I'd thought to help clarify some of your confusions. Firstly, WP:TornadoCriteria applies to the Tornadoes of 2024 page ONLY. Therefore, the April 26th and ongoing event qualifies for a section on Tornadoes of 2024 as of now.
To pass as a seperate article, it first needs to be assessed with WP:Notable and WP:LASTING, requiring the aftermath analysis to be significant and worthy of an article. Previously this year, we waited nearly a week to pass the Tornado outbreak of April 1-3, 2024 article over significant debate and revision. This far more notable tornado outbreak today is not over, and we have no clue on any damage assessments or confirmed total numbers for casualties. Not to mention the notability-checking bots may flag the recent article.
My point is, it would very much be best to help move that article into a draft space until the entire tornado event is over, to ensure the quality on the severe-weather topic pages. Thanks for reading this, hope it helped! HamiltonthesixXmusic (talk) 00:22, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You make some good points there; I've requested it to be moved back to draftspace. ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 01:32, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

They have conducted 165 featured article reviews, as well as 399 good article reviews and peer reviews, and have added 21 articles to featured topics and good topics.

Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you would like to learn more about rules and scoring for the 2024 WikiCup, please see this page. Further questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges (Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), and Frostly (talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages. Question from CMMChela (08:24, 4 May 2024)

I sent you a text about three months ago, or more? But I cannot find it. I would like to add new info to the text before it gets published. Can you help? --CMMChela (talk) 08:24, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, @CMMChela! I'm not sure what you mean by "sent you a text"; checking your contributions, it doesn't seem to look like you sent me a talk page message. If you did, can you please clarify? And, I think the page you're regarding is Draft:Godsuno Chela Flores, linguist, bio; I can certainly help! I'll try to improve the draft. Thanks! :) ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 00:01, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Yelharmiel (13:18, 4 May 2024)

I want to publish an article but when I finished editing it kept getting a message saying "No stashed content found for .....", so what should I do now?! --Yelharmiel (talk) 13:18, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, @Yelharmiel! What did the message regard about, if possible? Additionally, I don't think a message could appear before ya finished editing; can you please clarify? Thanks! :) ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 00:03, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I figured it out, I had to copy everything and paste it to a new one and it worked, I think the reason was that I kept editing for a long time without submitting, thank you though. 196.221.4.94 (talk) 00:09, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, glad to hear the issue's resolved! :) ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 00:59, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from TheLobotomite (11:22, 6 May 2024)

Hello tails, I'm new to this whole wikipedia thing, do you mind explaining how to make my own wikipedia page alongside tips to make it better?

Regards, TheLobotomite (do I have to format this like an email or what?) --TheLobotomite (talk) 11:22, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, @TheLobotomite! Sure, I can explain how!
So, about the creation of pages, you are free to create an article yourself, though I recommend new editors to create an article through the Article Wizard or through draftspace. The Article Wizard is a great tutorial for new editors like you!
Now, for tips on improving the page, make sure the subject or topic meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline. If it doesn't, the article may be nominated for deletion or, if is in draftspace, if submitted, it may be declined. So, make sure your page has reliable sources that have significant coverage of the subject or topic, and I highly recommend they're secondary sources, and not primary ones!
And also, you don't have to format it like an email; just send me a message in proper format so I can understand! Thanks! :) ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 14:59, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

May 6 outbreak draft

I’ve gone ahead and started the draft for the impending major outbreak, feel free to expand upon in the met synopsis when you get the chance. MarioProtIV (talk/contribs) 19:06, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there @MarioProtIV, thanks for the notice! I'll expand the meteorological synopsis whenever the outbreak has concluded; as of now, we don't know if an article is warranted yet, and I'll make the decision to expand it soon. Thanks, though! :) ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 01:10, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Lebello Malian (05:57, 10 May 2024)

Hello how can create new article --Lebello Malian (talk) 05:57, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, @Lebello Malian! You are free to create one yourself; but since you're a new editor, I recommend going through the Article Wizard first. The link provides steps and instructions to create an article and specific guidelines regarding it; it really helps! Additionally, you are free to create an article in draftspace first, and submitting it for a review by Articles for Creation reviewers. Thanks, and happy editing! :) ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 18:55, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from JDtoBee (19:55, 21 May 2024)

Hello, my userpage says that you have been assigned to be my mentor and that I can ask you questions? I'm trying to learn to edit. I am a student of tax law and my primary interest is in improving content and understanding of tax law. I see that this list https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Scholars_of_tax_law is pathetically incomplete, and indeed it seems to mostly only have profiles listed for tax law professors who have an affiliation with the University of Pennsylvania. I want to work on adding profiles for the most prominent and distinguished tax law professors who are not already on the list (becuase they do not have Penn affiliations). I started working on one draft profiel that someone else created and I was accused of a conflict of interest. I think that has been resolved. But I thought I'd check with you on my plan before working on creating other profiles just in case I am doing something wrong or might do it in the wrong way. I would appreciate any advice you could offer. Thanks!! --JDtoBee (talk) 19:55, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
