Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Arts
Points of interest related to Arts on Wikipedia: Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Arts. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Arts|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Arts. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

All sources link to a single viral moment of them performing a Gotye song, rather than any meaningful coverage. Article has had puffery issues in the past. Promotionally-toned article on a non-notable artist. Possibly COI or UPE as part of a series of promotional articles on the Munsi/Munshi family. A BEFORE did not find independent SIGCOV in reliable sources. Possibly a family history or memorial project? Sourcing does not meet GNG nor NARTIST criteria. - Actually there are several books which have mentioned his name multiple times. Noted painters like Jogen Chowdhury remembered him in his sayings that is well documented in this link: https://www.google.co.in/books/edition/Jogen_Chowdhury/e_zpAAAAMAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=0&bsq=Kumkum%20Munshi and https://www.google.co.in/books/edition/ADDA/tSdBEAAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=Kumkum+Munshi&pg=PT81&printsec=frontcover. Not only that, painter Amitabh SenGupta has also remembered Kumkum Munsi in his book Memoir of an Artist (https://www.google.co.in/books/edition/MEMOIR_OF_AN_ARTIST/teLtAwAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=Kumkum+Munshi&pg=PA26&printsec=frontcover). Even there are some books I found in the Google Books that have their covers designed by Munsi (https://www.google.co.in/books/edition/Contemporary_Bengali_Literature/vlsch77pobsC?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=Kumkum+Munshi&pg=PA2&printsec=frontcover and https://www.google.co.in/books/edition/Cokhera_b%C4%81ire/-jw0AAAAMAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&bsq=%E0%A6%95%E0%A7%81%E0%A6%AE%E0%A6%95%E0%A7%81%E0%A6%AE+%E0%A6%AE%E0%A7%81%E0%A6%A8%E0%A7%8D%E0%A6%B8%E0%A7%80&dq=%E0%A6%95%E0%A7%81%E0%A6%AE%E0%A6%95%E0%A7%81%E0%A6%AE+%E0%A6%AE%E0%A7%81%E0%A6%A8%E0%A7%8D%E0%A6%B8%E0%A7%80&printsec=frontcover). Also in 1970, the news of Munsi's exhibition in Maxmuller Bhavan in Kolkata was covered in this Bengali article: https://www.google.co.in/books/edition/De%C5%9Ba/d-EcAQAAMAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=0&bsq=%E0%A6%95%E0%A7%81%E0%A6%AE%E0%A6%95%E0%A7%81%E0%A6%AE%20%E0%A6%AE%E0%A7%81%E0%A6%A8%E0%A7%8D%E0%A6%B8%E0%A7%80 . Finesilpo (talk) 16:14, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
- Also in 1965, another document covers the news of exhibition by Munsi along with other painters. Although these links are available online, there were two books published offline in which Munsi was commemorated which also supports the notability of the subject. Also, in those books it was mentioned that after Munsi's death the Tata Group commemorated Munsi with all his paintings published in their calender. For an artist, is it not a notability when he gets remembered by internationally renowned conglomerate like Tata Group? Finesilpo (talk) 16:22, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
- Name mentions or acknowledgements or image/photo credits are not significant coverage which is what is needed for GNG. Furthermore, the majority of these links are unverifiable. A corporation like Tata Group using his images in a calendar is also not significant coverage nor does it contribute to notability. Sorry to disappoint, but he fails NARTIST. It is partly an interview with the co-founder of LADA, but starts with the writer's overview of the Live Art field and evaluation of LADA's role in it. AllyD (talk) 12:32, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
- The following doesn't contribute to notability here, but I will also note that the present article doesn't mention organisational controversy during 2023 (news item discussing the closure threat and petition). AllyD (talk) 12:37, 1 July 2024 (UTC)

I vote against deletion. While the article has issues, they aren't based on notability. It is clearly a well-cited and long running organisation that is important the UK cultural scene. The article could more clearly lay out the history and challenges of the org, as mentioned above, but this doesn't warrant deletion. genericxz (talk) 13:47, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
- Keep The nominator has invoked WP:NCORP, however from this link [1] we see that the subject is a charity, therefore WP:NONPROFIT applies. It is not necessary for the subject to meet the more stringent guidelines put in place for corporate entities. On this basis - in particular including from the arguments above - there does appear sufficient coverage and citations of the activities of this charity to have a reasonable presumption of notability. Notability not established with significant sources. Prod removal claimed "artworks are usually accepted with one good source" – besides this being completely false, the single citation has only a single sentence on it and is not a good source toward GNG at all. The only sources I can find are routine data generic to any painting and no substantive coverage about the piece. Reywas92Talk 13:39, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

- Portraits of the presidents: the National Portrait Gallery pp. 14-15 (p. 34): "The Missouri-born artist George Caleb Bingham painted the original version of this portrait in the spring of 1844 in his temporary hut-like studio situated at the bottom of Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Bingham would later gain much acclaim for his depictions of life on the transMississippi frontier. At the moment, however, he was an unproven quantity, and Adams’s willingness to sit for him stemmed largely from the fact that Bingham was sharing his studio with painter John Cranch, who was an Adams kinsman."

- Comment - at first glance she appears notable, but I will look deeper into the sources, as well as potential sources in a BEFORE search within the next few days before iVoting. It appears there are several SPA's who have worked on the article, however, that may or may not mean it's an autobio, which while strongly frowned upon, is not forbidden - if the person is notable. It may have influenced the neutrality of the article, so if it turns out that they meet notability criteria and the article is kept, it may need to be cleaned up. - Delete - As I'm slogging through the 94 ref-bombed citations I am finding that many of these sources are user-submitted content, blogs, things written by his Empathism adherents and members, and some sources don't mention him at all. The article is bloated with content supported in this way, and I do not think it should remain in the encyclopedia, per WP:PROMO by the two now-blocked sockpuppets (see: [3] and [4]). Also WP:TNT, and WP:NOTADVERTISING may apply. Netherzone (talk) 22:05, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- Delete. For full disclosure I was recently heavily involved in both the ANI thread and the SPI which resulted in the socks being blocked. However, I agree with the positions taken by Allan Nonymous and Netherzone above. - Delete Seems to be a WP:TNT case right enough. I thought because he was poet but looked at a whole bunch of the references (not the whole first block though) and seems to be non-notable. Which is unfortunate really. If it wasn't empathism and the concerted effort to stuff it full of crap along with the several articles I came across mentioning the term during NPP sprint, I suspect there could be enough for a wee stub as a poet. These directed action gangs on here turn a lot of people off. Its unfortunate. scope_creepTalk 10:19, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

Fails GNG. The article is currently an amalgamation of primary sources and non-notable pictures. The only secondary sources are those that discuss Turing himself; this material is already discussed in the main Turing machine article, which also contains pictures of physical implementations. There has been some research in computer science education on visual representations of Turing machines or on ways of making Turing machines accessible through other senses; https://doi.org/10.1109/VL.1993.269602 and https://doi.org/10.1145/2157136.2157190 are examples. So there might be some scope for an article with this title, but I don't think any of the present content is salvageable or useful for turning this into a proper article. —David Eppstein (talk) 00:42, 27 September 2024 (UTC)

Another article on a non-notable artist and professor from a "walled garden"-type series of articles promoting the "members" of Menotti Lerro's "movement/manifesto", Empathism and his New Manifesto of Arts. The subject of this article does not meet WP:GNG, all the sources are primary/connected except the Milano Today source that simple name-checks him in a mention. As an academic, he fails WP:NACADEMIC as he has a h-index of zero on Google Scholar and Scopus, and all I could find was an article written by Lerro about his own (Lerro's) so-called Empathic movement. This article on an Italian artist is part of a sort-of "walled garden" of articles on artists and academics affiliated with Menotti Lerro's so-called movement, Empathism and who signed his manifesto. The subject of the article does not meet WP:GNG as the sources are all primary sources except, perhaps one, however that may be a press release. Fails WP:NARTIST. The article claims he was in the Venice Bienale 3 times, altho this could not be verified by the Venice Bienale itself [5]], so perhaps he was in one of the satellite shows but not represented in the actual Bienale. As an academic he fails WP:NACADEMIC, as there is an h-index score of zero on Google Scholar and Scopus I found a few things he wrote, but they were not cited by others. Bringing it here for the community to decide. Netherzone (talk) 01:25, 25 September 2024 (UTC)

- Delete — per nom. Empathism spam, no real evidence of notability. — Biruitorul Talk 10:54, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
CommentChanging vote to Delete, per nomination. This does look like a cookie-cutter article springing from Empathism. Leaving that aside, I see him in ALK online, and two exhibitions.I cannnot, however, find RS for the claim that he was at the Venice Biennale three times, unless the source given https://www.accademiavirtuosi.it/accademici/biovirtuoso.php?id=20 is to be trusted. Perhaps I am searching the internet incorrectly, but I thought the Biennale was documented well by the Biennale. He has been quoted in the volume by Vittorio Sgarbi (edited by), La scultura del Novecento in Italia, in Enciclopedia Universale dell'Arte (Mondadori: 1990); in Gillo Dorfles, Ultime tendenze nell'arte oggi (Feltrinelli: 1999) and in Vittorio Sgarbi (edited by), Lo Stato dell’Arte / Campania 54 Biennale di Venezia (Skira publishing: 2011).
is just a weirdclaimsentence. WP:CIR.Not sure what to do about this one.--WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 00:35, 26 September 2024 (UTC)- Delete. As per Netherzone. Axad12 (talk) 06:07, 26 September 2024 (UTC)

While the webcomics that are part of the alliance are notable, the alliance itself doesn't appear to have received significant coverage in reliable sources; I was only able to find mentions. The article was previously kept at an AfD (well, VfD), but that was back in 2004 when standards were very different. toweli (talk) 10:47, 22 September 2024 (UTC)

- Delete – Besides a listing in the colofon of Webcomics (2005), I got nothing. The sources in the article aren't particularly reliable either, so there's nothing for us to say on Dumbrella I'm afraid. ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 15:37, 24 September 2024 (UTC)

Initially PRODed by me, for the following reason:
In addition to the existing relying on a single source and vagueness issues (likely due to translation), the information in the article could easily be included onto the existing articles – DIN 1451, Austria (typeface), Tern (typeface) and Road signs in Austria – with the provision of sources, weakening the article's basis.
Deletion was objected, a merged was proposed instead. However, it is not possible to redirect one article to 3 others. Created a topic at WikiProject Typography over 4 months ago with no response. The article has no notability on its own, and is poorly written/explained. EthanL13 | talk 22:06, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

- Delete This is covered in DIN 1451 in more detail than is here. Nothing in that article gives me the impression that a separate article on DIN 1451 Engschrift would be needed. I did search and Engschrift is always defined together with DIN 1451. Lamona (talk) 02:43, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

- Merge to DIN 1451, by condensing the Austria section into a single sentence and placing it under DIN_1451#Usage_examples (this is sourced - the article's only source refers to this). There is certainly no justification for a standalone article, as the target article provides better coverage for every other aspect. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 06:47, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if I agree with a merge, since Engschrift (German for "narrow font/script") isn't strictly unique to DIN 1451. EthanL13 | talk 14:23, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
- Well, it is in this case, as the article makes clear. The term should lead the reader somewhere. Do you have more general redirect targets in mind? --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 06:47, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- I don't think the article is much to go by – it can't even stick to its own subject in the lead. If it were possible, a disambiguation page (with DIN 1451 as its primary article) would be ideal, with links to Austria (typeface), Tern (typeface) and FE-Schrift. Just an idea, not sure if it's possible. EthanL13 | talk 09:36, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- Maybe a disambiguation would be the way to go, given the several different types where the term is accepted as a variant, and the fact that it also represents the original German term for shorthand [6]. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 10:05, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

- Anything as long as it's deleted. I recommend making it a redirect to Font#Width, the content can be spread out in the relevant articles if it is of any interest. Mr.choppers | ✎ 18:01, 23 September 2024 (UTC)

- Delete - Insufficient sources that are fully independent, secondary and in-depth. I can find a few press-releases online and a few things he wrote, but no indepth coverage of him and his work. The current sourcing is 1) Something he wrote about himself in a daily newspaper (non-independent, primary) "Maurizio Zenga talks about his experience...."; 2) List of "followers" or "adherents" to Menotti Lerro's so-called movement/manifesto Empathism - non-independent, primary source written by Lerro, that name checks Zenga as a signatory; 3) PR "preview" press release for a forthcoming event (public relations/press release). This article and many others created by a COI single-purpose account on numerous non-notable "followers" of Lerro's Empathism - it's WP:PROMO. The subject does not meet notability criteria for WP:NACADEMIC - Google scholar h-index score of zero, nothing on Scopus. Fails WP:NARCHITECT and WP:NARTIST.
