WYMT channel 57 is the CBS affiliate in Hazard, Kentucky, serving the eastern part of the Lexington market and portions of neighboring Virginia and West Virginia. It is also on the local cable in Claiborne County, Tennessee.

It signed on as WKYH-TV (meaning W KentuckY Hazard) on October 20, 1969 as an NBC affiliate. WKYH was founded by Bill Gorman, Hazard's 8 term mayor. WKYH was the first TV station in eastern Kentucky. In 1985, the station switched to CBS with new calls, WYMT, meaning "We're Your Mountain Television". The station broadcasts digital programming on channel 12; the digital signal also carries its parent station, Lexington's WKYT-TV.

Although it identifies as a station in its own right, WYMT is considered a semi-satellite of WKYT. It clears some of WKYT's syndicated programming, and the two stations share a Web site. The two stations occasionally co-brand as "Kentucky Television."

In April, WYMT was Voted Best Newscast in Kentucky.

Production Staff

The production staff at WYMT are the "behind the scenes" individuals that make airing WYMT news possible. Most of the members of our staff have a set position for each newscast, however almost all team member is capable of operating virtually all parts of a newscast "from a production standpoint". Graphics opperators build informational full screen images. Studio camera opperators set shots of the on air talent. Audio engineers adjust and monitor the music and microphones. Master Control manages the rolling of tapes and commercial breaks during a newscast, while directors over see the entire show. The majority of this crew also edit the commercials that run on WYMT.
