The Amazing Race Asia 2 is the second season of the reality television game show The Amazing Race Asia. The show features ten teams of two, with a pre-existing relationship, in a race around the world to win US$100,000.

This season premiered on November 22, 2007 at 9PM (UTC+8).

Production

The Amazing Race Asia 2 covered 50,000 kilometres in 24 days.[1] The show adopted newer rules in the US version, such as the non-elimination penalty where the team who checked in last must make it to first place in the next leg or else incur the 30 minute penalty. Production made the Race more competitive by imposing more self-driving and reducing the chance of teams being bunched up on the same airplane flight.[2]

This season of The Amazing Race had two different penalties for coming in last on a non-elimination leg. While Edwin & Monica were marked for elimination for coming in last on the first leg, Henry & Terri were stripped of all their money and will begin the next leg with no money after coming in last on the sixth leg. Racers were not told that the original non-elimination penalty was still applicable. This twist led to an argument between Henry and host Allan Wu at the Seoul finish mat, when the former was unwilling to give up his team's money.[3] In the following leg, the penalty reverted to the 'marked for elimination' penalty after Henry & Terri finished last consecutively.

Cast

This season featured 10 teams chosen from 2500 applicants, including racers from the original US series.[4] Final applications were accepted April 13, 2007 (two weeks after the original deadline). This season was also open to the Japanese, who were ineligible for Season 1. Final interviews were held sometime in April or May 2007. Filming took place sometime in June or July 2007.[5][6]

The present season's cast included reunited siblings, childhood friends, and dating couples.[4] Notably, Adrian is the first hearing-impaired contestant in The Amazing Race' franchise.[7] This season also featured a large number of local media personalities or their relatives. For example, Monica represented Toronto, Canada and won the 1997 Miss Chinese International Pageant,[8] while Paula is a Channel [V] VJ.[2] Pamela and Vanessa are the sisters of famous Malaysian singer Vince Chong.[9]

The present season features only two non-Asians. One is Henry, a former US Navy Petty Officer, who races with his Filipina wife Trinidad (better known as Terri).[10] The other is Aurelia, a Frenchwoman residing in Hong Kong who races with her Singaporean ex-housemate Sophie.[11][12]

Template:Fnb Brett and Kinaryosih were unable to complete the Detour on Leg 3, since they arrived at the North Shore Rowing Club after business hours-they backed out of the Wall Detour. All remaining teams had checked in, so they were told to go straight to the Pit Stop, where they were eliminated from the Race.
Template:Fnb Sophie and Aurelia were unable to complete both the Roadblock and Detour on Leg 4, since they arrived at Okere Falls after closing down for the day. Host Allan Wu arrived at the location to tell them of their elimination.
Template:Fnb Leg 5 is a double-length leg and shown over two episodes.
Template:Fnb Terri & Henry used their Yield power on Rovilson & Marc who were, however, already ahead of them at the Yield and thus failed to receive it.
Template:Fnb Adrian & Collin and Vanessa & Pamela committed errors while arriving at the Pit Stop. They didn't park their vehicles at the designated parking zones and entered through the wrong gates. They had to backtrack to rectify these errors, but those errors did not affect their placements.

  • Red means the team was eliminated.
  • An underlined Blue means the team was the last to arrive at a pit stop in a non-elimination leg of the race and was thus "marked for elimination", meaning that if that team did not place first on the next leg, they would receive a 30 minute penalty whereas an italicised Blue means the team was the last to arrive at a pit stop in a non-elimination leg of the race and had all their money confiscated. They will start at the next leg receiving no money as well.
  • A Green ƒ on a team's placement means the team won the Fast Forward clue. A green-colored leg number with an ƒ indicates that the Fast Forward was available but not used.
  • Matching colors and symbols (+, ^ and ~) indicate teams who worked together during part of the leg as a result of the Intersection route marker.
  • A yellow > means that the team who chose to use the Yield; < indicates the team who received it;<> indicates a leg where the Yield was available but not used.
