Wikipedia:WikiProject Dance
This is a WikiProject, an area for focused collaboration among Wikipedians. New participants are welcome; please feel free to participate!
|
A few Wikipedians have gotten together to make some suggestions about how we might organize data in articles about Dance. These are only suggestions, things to give you focus and to get you going, and you shouldn't feel obligated in the least to follow them. But if you don't know what to write or where to begin, following the below guidelines may be helpful. Mainly, we just want you to write articles!
|
Scope
This WikiProject aims primarily to categorize and organize the various Dance related artices. A large majority of them are currently stubs, or in desperate need of work, so through this project we hope to not only organize the articles appropriately, but also to expand those that need help. And well, to get rid of all those pesky red links. :-)
Parentage
The parent of this WikiProject is the WikiProject Arts.

- Arria Belli (talk · contribs) Translations to and from English, French and Spanish. Used to do Irish step—dancing as well as Scottish Highland and Scottish Country dancing, and misses it terribly.
- avjewe (talk · contribs) — I primarily do vintage dance, by which I mean American and European social dances from 1800 to 1950.
- Byron Thorne (talk · contribs) — I want to improve articles on ballroom and Latin dancing, as well as more general articles and history.
- Cazo3788 (talk · contribs) I'm interested in writing biographies of classical ballet dancers, will also focus on South African dancers.
- Cswrye (talk · contribs) — Most of my knowledge is in swing and its related dances, but I would still like to be involved in other areas of this project.
- Dragonfly213 (talk · contribs) — Former freelance Dance and Arts critic and professional dancer in the Los Angeles area, with a minor in Dance from UCLA, 1987. I shall contribute/edit articles as my current Single Working Mom schedule allows! Would appreciate suggestions of any Dance article to work on or to create, from this community. Thanks for being!
- Editor at Large (talk · contribs) — I am a student studying classical ballet at a pre-professional school. I've been dancing for 13 years.
- Fang Aili (talk · contribs) — I'd like to improve folk dance-related articles, as well as the Folk dance page itself. Btw, folk dance is not traditional dance.
- General Eisenhower (talk · contribs) I love the history of dance. I also particate in WikiProject disease and anti-stub
- idance18 (talk · contribs)-I am a ballet, tap, jazz, and lyrical dancer. I've been looking for something like this, so I'm very happy to help. I hope to expand/improve the tap dance article!
- ItsLassieTime (talk · contribs) I also participate in Wikiprojects Shakespeare and Television. I just created the article The Moor's Pavane and A Midsummer Night's Dream (ballet) (both stub class) and invite members to edit!
- Jon Silpayamanant (talk · contribs) Interested in focusing on Southeast Asian dance in particular, and Asian dance in general. Also some interest in Capoeira and other martial arts that have dance elements such as Muay Thai (the Ram Muay and Wai Khru before the bouts) as well as ethnic dances like Belly Dance and Bollywood Dance.
- Lambtron (talk · contribs) I'm particulary interested in acro dance and competitive dance. Furthermore, I am obsessed: I must photograph every dance I see, and I release my photos to public domain whenever it is practical to do so.
- Lyellin (talk · contribs)
- JoeManelli (talk · contribs) Former writer for Dance Magazine and Broadway performer. Interested in writing about major performers, dance professionals, choreographers and dance companies that I have worked with, interviewed or known.
- Macdonald-ross (talk) 15:09, 24 September 2009 (UTC) History of UK ballroom and latin dancing; dance biography
- Mikkalai (talk · contribs)
- Mirokado (talk · contribs) - I have experience of Early (C14-C17), Scottish Country, Highland and English Folk dance. I've recently been updating the list of dance companies and have a 'little script' to do some of the housekeeping
- Mrlopez2681 (talk · contribs) 07:44, 6 April 2006 (UTC) — I am interested in creating articles on ballet history, particularly things that everyone seems to know of yet known nothing about. I have so far written the entire articles on Leon Minkus, Cesare Pugni (which I have yet to complete), Marius Petipa (which needs more), Riccardo Drigo (which needs more), the Bolshoi Kamenny Theatre. I do this because I have a wealth of knowledge I would like to share with others, as there is to little of it on the web, and most of it is far from accurate. I would like to really 'fix' many of the articles pertaining toballets and their history, as many of them contain whilly inaccurate information. As well I'd like to create articles on particular ballets such as La Bayadere, as well as completely fix the articles on The Pharaoh's Daughter, Sleeping Beauty and so on. I have also created many reviews for amazon.com — Adam's reviews
- PartyDude! (talk · contribs) - hip hop, melbourne shuffle
- Paul foord (talk · contribs) — Dance in Australia, contemporary dance & article assessment
- Peter Deer (talk · contribs) I've been a ballroom dancer for nearly five years now and have participated in theatrical and vaudeville style dancing for even longer. I'll be here as much to learn as to edit, and I'll mostly be devoting myself to expanding and cleaning up articles.
- PlainJane (talk · contribs) — I am a keen lindy hopper and also researching contemporary swing dance(s) for my PhD. I hang out around the lindy hop, swing dance, charleston (dance) and other swing dance related pages. I'm only new to wikipedia, so I'm always keen for feedback!
- Queenofthewilis (talk · contribs) Hi! I love Wikipedia and have thus far created some articles on dance, though they need to be expanded. I will get on it soon, I promise! Here is my working list: Angel Corella, Xiomara Reyes, Ivan Vsevolozhsky, Julius Reisinger, Prix Benois de la Danse, Nicholas Legat, Christian Johansson, Lucien Petipa, Myrtha, Queen of the Wilis, and Carlotta Grisi. I have also contributed to many other articles and have uploaded many images for use therein.
- Robertgreer (talk · contribs) I'll be participating in WikiProject Ballet for the most part, attend New York City Ballet to excess (in the Fourth Ring), also City Center's Fall for Dance (tickets are $15 and $10 respectively; I'm not a rich man) and see ballet and contemporary dance two or three times a year in Stockholm and Copenhagen (staying with friends; I told you I'm not rich.) I created an entry for Virginia Tanner and her legacy in Salt Lake City; a place I've never been, except to change planes in the airport; nor seen Utah Repertory Dance Theatre but ran across Tanner's papers in the NY Public Library. It's a contemporary dance story that parallels City Ballet and the School of American Ballet.
- Robotam (talk · contribs)
- Roland2 (talk · contribs)
- Sfdan (talk · contribs) — mostly square dance-related articles, but also others occasionally
- Tanyawade (talk · contribs)
- Thefunkygibson (talk · contribs) — Ballet dancer! As a member of the BBO I can write articles on this, its people, places and possibly some bios on dancers I have on DVDs. Started Carlos Acosta, found it's not hard to write articles from scratch with good websites! I wouldn't be adverse to writing some articles on dancewear brands e.g. Bloch, Freed etc as it's not hard to find info on these things. As a grammar junkie I can do some little edits here and there. Only really available when I have a holiday or nothing better to do though!
- Tufkaa (talk · contribs) — edits and articles mostly dealing eastern european folk dancing as well as classical dance; I also participate in Ukrainian and Soviet-era history/geography/biography.
- WickedWitchoftheWest (talk · contribs) Student in the area of musical theater related dance, ballet, tap, jazz, and lyrical. Have studied for 11 years (age 14)
- Will.i.am (talk · contribs) — I'm interested in salsa, lindy, and balboa. I have more experience editing Wikipedia than dancing so consider myself a supporting contributor.
- Wintran (talk · contribs) 01:26, 19 April 2006 (UTC) — I'll mainly be working on street- and hip hop dance-related articles, but I'm interested in seeing the more general dance articles improve as well.

- Emmegan (talk · contribs) (24 June 2007) — I am a serious student of ballet, modern dance and choreography, and would like to do whatever I can to improve the quality and quantity of dance articles on Wikipedia. I would like to improve the quality of many of the articles on these topics, and also participate in an effort to promote more consistency in the conventions and organization of the articles on dance.
