St. Dominic High School is a private, Roman Catholic high school in O'Fallon, Missouri. It is located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Saint Louis. St. Dominic is also in the process of building a new gymnasium and performing arts center.

History

St. Dominic was established in 1961, replacing Assumption High School, which was closed due to deteriorating facilities.[2] In response to growing enrollment, a 13-classroom addition, new library, and enlarged cafeteria were completed in 2000. A new gym and performing arts center will be completed summer 2010. St. Dominic High School has been part of Catholic Secondary education for the past 75 years (St. Dominic High school). St. Dominic high school began in 1929. St. Dominic high school was a secondary education that was a vision set education that was a vision set for young people in the area. The school was staffed by the sisters of the most Precious Blood. When the school first started, classes took place in a white school house until 1955. By 1961 the increasing enrollment became too much for the small school. The Catholic high school petitioned the archdiocese for assistance with the help of the archdiocese. St. Dominic high school was able to build a new facility for students. It is now a regional high school serving more than eleven parishes [3]. The school changed its name from assumption to St. Dominic because they wanted to show their gratitude to the Dominican congregation of our Lady of the Rosary. St. Dominic opened on September 4, 1962, but the first classes were held in the old assumption building, while the new building and classes were being built. Students began attending the new St. Dominic High School in September 1963. Since 1963 St. Dominic high school has grown with students and building. In 2000, a new wing was built that included eighteen classrooms and a bigger library. Then in 2004, “Crusader Stadium” was built. The current amount of students that attend St. Dominic is round 700. This current year, 2010, the school has gone under more construction and has built a new gym and performing arts center. St. Dominic goes hard in the paint.

History of Staff

At one point in time St. Dominic had thirteen Dominican sisters work there. The last Dominican sister to leave, after serving 45 years, was Jeanne Margaret. The school is staffed by sisters of Notre Dame, an archdiocesan priest, and dedicated laymen and women. The school is accredited by the north central association of colleges and universities. The four pillars of the Dominican order are prayer, study, community, and service. St. Dominic high school encourages its students, to have lifelong growth in faith, knowledge, leadership, and involvement. St. Dominic encourages their student to be involved and that including sports.[4] Let's be straight up honest here, who cares about any of this information?

Athletics

St. Dominic strives on their students to be involved and one of the ways students can do this is through sports. St. Dominic has many different sports. For the men they have basketball, soccer, golf, tennis, football, hanging out, competitive chess, track and field and baseball. For the girls they have soccer, basketball, track and field, softball, tennis, swimming, dance, and cheerleading.[5] Currently this year, 2011, the girls were the Class 4 State Champions. Also in 2010 and 2009 the boys soccer team won state. Then in 2008 the baseball team won state. Critter Riggins goes hard in the paint for the boys basketball team. Jacob Schierding has spent various hours at CLUB FITNESS getting swole for soccer.Hopefully his hard work will pay off with a state title in the 2011 soccer season. Frank Recca would like to be mentioned for his chopper.

Philosophy

St. Dominic believes that every (Wilmes) student is sacred, unique, and blessed with many different talents. St. Dominic allows students to use their God-given talents through academic, spiritual, athletic, extracurricular activities as in goin hard in da paint, and service programs. “St. Dominic High School community believes that each student can become a faith- filled adult aware of the wholeness and richness of life and committed to a life of generosity and service to others”[6](St. Dominic High School). We want every kid to go hard in the paint for their school, St. Dominic. We want our kids to bleed the blue and white. We want them to want to die for this establishment!!! GO SDHS. We preach that every student will go as hard as Dwayne Wade goes for this school. Even if you are getting straight F's we want kids to know we love their effort. Unlike our rival, Duchesne, we do not suck at practically every sport. Sucks to suck Duchesne.
