Miss USA 2011, the 60th anniversary of the Miss USA pageant, was held at the Theatre for the Performing Arts in Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 19, 2011. Miss USA 2010, Rima Fakih of Michigan crowned her successor, Alyssa Campanella of California, at the end of this event.[3] Miss USA 2011 will represent the United States at the Miss Universe 2011 pageant in São Paulo, Brazil on September 12, 2011. For the first time ever, one of the sixteen semifinalists was selected exclusively by fans via online voting and SMS messaging. Due to this, the competition formats were changed to reality series style group eliminations, Top 16, Top 8 and Top 4. [4]
Television Ratings
- In the first hour of the pageant, it earned NBC 6.6 million viewers, winning the timeslot. In the second hour, viewership rose to 7.8 million, also winning its timeslot. Both hours were the leader in the 18-49 demographic.[5]

Historical significance
- Alyssa Campanella becomes the third known Miss USA with red hair, although it should be noted that this is not her natural hair color (natural blonde).
- Campanella is also the highest ranked state delegate at a Miss Teen USA competition (1st runner-up in 2007) to win the Miss USA title outright (Only one Miss Teen USA winner has ever held the Miss USA title, and it was inherited by Brandi Sherwood in 1997.).
- California won Miss USA for the sixth time. The last winner was Shannon Marketic in 1992.
- Tennessee made its sixth straight placement at Miss USA and its highest since Rachel Smith won in 2007.
- Alabama made its highest placement since coming in 1st runner-up in 2003.
- Texas made its highest placement since Crystle Stewart won in 2008.
- Maryland made its first placement since 2005.
- Hawaii made its first placement since 2007.
- Indiana placed in the semifinals since 2008.
- New York made its first placement since 2005.
- Utah, South Carolina and Georgia return to the semifinals after 2009.
- Missouri made its second consecutive placement after placing in 2007-2008.
- New Mexico's Brittany Toll becomes the first state delegate to make it past the first elimination in the history of Miss USA due to new media technology (internet/SMS vote). New Mexico last placed in 2004.
