Chris, Please leave my JKS post. It is constructive in a sense, factual, and I don't understand why you are removing it. Gary — Preceding unsigned comment added by Garyfeltman (talkcontribs) 14:01, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gary. Your additions may have been everything you say, but it is not relevant to the article on Keystore, which JKS currently redirects to. This is why I have removed it, and most editors would do the same. ChrisHodgesUK (talk) 14:23, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for removing the edit I made to the cellulitis page and wasting the time I invested in improving the page. I'm glad that your knowledge of cellulitis = ignorance. You say that I have no knowledge of the subject, yet as a serving Royal Marine who has undergone 3 weeks of treatment for Cellulitis, picked up on the training area of Woodbury Common I think my experience counts for more than that of a jobs worth! For information the citation - had you given me time would have been given to the Royal Devon & Exeter hospital, which diagnosed me, treated me and gave me the insight to the conidtion. In case you need this citation for the citation - They have leading microbiologist who specialises in Cellulitis & Royal Marines.

Ps You have re-affirmed my dislike for Wikipedia, as it is purely an 'elitist' forum rather than a resource for all to use and add to! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.130.49.226 (talk) 16:39, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry to hear you feel that way. It is a resource which all are welcome to add to, however for many reasons a citation to a reliable source is required. You might like to see w:RS for more information about what constitutes a reliable source for these purposes. If you have a news article for example which can be linked to, feel free to undo my edit and post the link - or let me know the link and I'll do it. ChrisHodgesUK (talk) 16:45, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have better things to do with my time.. and no longer have any interest in contributing to Wikipedia, let alone using it! I would rather waste my time watching paint dry then spend time contributing only for it to be edited then told I have spend time to then look for articles.. Unlike some I have life which means I am not glued to the internet! Enjoy — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.130.49.226 (talk) 16:48, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Supporting edits of a banned user

Hello, please do not remove the reversions I made which were totally within policy C5. 86.186.147.165 (talk) 22:19, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rudeness

You were completely out of order to revert my edit to Caroline Herschel and then leave me a snotty message accusing me of vandalism. You should read what people have written before letting accusations fly. I doubt I'll be sharing any more of my knowledge if this is how I'm thanked. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.40.209.54 (talk) 21:27, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Andy

I can hand this to an arbitrator, or go find a "goofy" wiki site and save you the angina. I KNOW that stuff like sarcasm doesn't come through readily via the printed page. i also know that snipe should have explained that all, and that by "including" it in the painted snipe page I kinda, sorta protected it, ipso facto.

i've had great fun and don't wish to cause you more grief. If you wish, I shall create a nagging snipe page and be done with it. frankly, it's not a bad idear, if I do say so myself. Not knee-slapper funny, but ok,i suppose.

Apologies! I'm actually CRACKING UP over it all, which can be considered intellectual cruelty. I feel shame. 2 minutes in the box. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Regnad kcin75 (talkcontribs) 18:06, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your re-edit of the Viking Lander page

I feel your edit of the page was unnecessary, as I had simply removed a sentence that had already been discussed in the same paragraph. This was relating to the design of the probes consisting of an orbiter and a lander. The initial sentence discussed the roles of both sections so I didn't see the need to mention the structures again in a more basic sentence. I will revert to the edit I had made. Richard Wilson

SVG and fonts

Hi! I saw your request at Wikipedia:Graphic_Lab/Illustration_workshop#Text_position_broken_in_thumbnails_despite_converting_to_paths, which you solved yourself by converting to paths. However, there might be another way to do it: by using the DejaVu Sans Condensed font (you can download it here). It's the least "jumpy" of all fonts. Regards, -- Orionisttalk 14:55, 27 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Orionist, that's good to know. FWIW I think I used one of the DejaVu Sans family for this (1st version was done in open office on linux, tidied up via inkscape - one of the two has affected the character spacing and proprtions slightly, so I'm not sure which on anymore). Thanks again. ChrisHodgesUK (talk) 15:32, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Merge discussion for Winterbourne, Gloucestershire

en dash

Those were en dashes in MOSFET. I've put them back. See MOS:ENDASH Dicklyon (talk) 15:50, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not going to disagree as such (or change the article again), but I believe that a hyphen is more correct (as is MOS:HYPHEN point 3), especially as when I found it the text actually had a mixture of hyphens and endashes in comparable uses. ChrisHodgesUK (talk) 13:12, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That point 3 also says "In some cases, like diode–transistor logic, the independent status of the linked elements requires an en dash instead of a hyphen." If you use hyphens, it suggests something involving a metal oxide, which is wrong. It is supposed to indicate layers of independent materials, a metal, an oxide, and a semiconductor. The en dash makes that clear. If there are other inconsistencies in the article, we should fix them, but most likely the various uses of hyphen an en dash are about right, as several of us try to keep an eye on such things there. Dicklyon (talk) 16:05, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Seems reasonable - though it's not what I'm used to from the literature. ChrisHodgesUK (talk) 18:19, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your perspective would be of value

Hi there. I would appreciate it if you could visit Talk:Muhammad. The article, Muhammad, has changed significantly since it originally passed WP:GA several years ago. It now states in the opening paragraph that Mohammad is the Founder of Islam and has relegated to a note at the end of the article that Muslims, themselves don't believe this. I have started a discussion on the talk page concerning this and would value your input. Thanks so much. Veritycheck (talk) 00:53, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Veritycheck, thanks for pointing this out - I've added my own views, which I think are similar to those in the images discussion. ChrisHodgesUK (talk) 12:46, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You for Wikipedia Freeware Picture

Hello, My name is Duane Hurst and I recently made a free (non-commercial) English web site to share information with people. I added links to your Wikipedia/Wikimedia freeware picture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Sunset_over_Nicoya.jpg). I also gave credit to you on my web pages for your work. Thank you for sharing with the public. My website is:

http://www.freeenglishsite.com/

I add pictures such as yours to one of the following major sections of my site: 1. World section - contains information and over 10,000 images of every world country and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/index.htm

2. USA section - contains information and images of every USA state and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/usa/index.htm

3. English section - "Mel and Wes" lessons in conversation format. Stories are located in various USA states and world countries such as China, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Thailand. Each lesson has many slang terms and idioms, which I link to my Slang Dictionary. This eventually will have over 5,000 terms. Currently, it has about 3,000 slang and idioms. I regularly add new lessons and slang terms. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/lessons/index.htm Slang Dictionary link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/slang/Eslang_a.htm

Prior to retirement, I taught English at several private and public universities in the United States.

Please share this free site with your friends. I hope all will enjoy the pictures and find the English information useful. Sincerely,  Duane Hurst in Utah, USA

Active Shooter Revisions

Hi ChrisHodgesUK! Greetings from the U.S. Thanks for leaving me a message. I reverted back to the way the page was with my additions and changes. The pages was marked by an editor as being poor (as of 2009) and I reviewed it and found the same. It contained a lot of blather and extraneous information, and was citing small American towns like Texas for law enforcement procedures rather than, say, Homeland Security. So I tightened a lot of the data, improved the language, added references, cleaned up broken references and outdated info, and otherwise just made the page more Wikipedia like in content form and language. I hope you agree it's better than before, as it was flagged by Wiki. I work with Law Enforcement so I'm pretty up to speed with this stuff. Thanks and Happy Holidays! — Preceding unsigned comment added by GwenNewYork (talkcontribs) 18:03, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi GwenNewYork, I think you're right, I was perhaps a bit hasty in reverting your edit, which superficially looked like so many misguided edits. As you've done in your more recent edit, a summary helps slow down an editor who's over-eager to "fix" recent changes. Anyway, best wishes and season's greetings.ChrisHodgesUK (talk) 08:38, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

editing

I was trying to edit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_Nobel_laureates_per_capita

addin Lithuania population 2,979,000 and lauretes 2, and per capita result 6.714, both numbers are from other articles of wikipedia — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.60.49.75 (talk) 10:12, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It seems like you were right, however it's a good idea to fill in the edit summary box. This is especially true when you're editing from an IP address, and also when you're making multiple edits that only make sense when the last one is saved. Hello,

Can you keep a watch at the at the Ramdasia article page and provide your inputs if it should be merged with the Chamar page. The user Sikh-History is on an agenda has been constantly deleting sources and not providing reliable sources for his edits TimesGerman (talk) 13:11, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi TimesGerman. I've had a look, and I can see it's a bit of a mess, but without any knowledge of the topics there's not a lot I can do. There's no merge request currently in place, and I would tend to oppose one at least at the moment as (1) There's no clear-cut reason for merging; and (2) Chamar is in much better condition, it's generally easier to merge articles of broadly similar quality. ChrisHodgesUK (talk) 14:30, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Saraiki language

Dear, Saraiki is a language, it is not a dialect. Riasti dialect, Shah puri dialect,Multani dialect, Multani language, Thalochi dialect, Thalochi ,Derawali dialect articles. I suggest merging these articles , as the all these are same. And also be Redirected to Saraiki language. Also Jhangvi dialect is dialect of Saraiki. Kindly See these External Links #1 and #2.

Hi 182.186.47.188. Regardless of the merits of your argument, a unilateral deletion of an article in favour of a redirect is not the way to approach this, and to be honest, my talk page isn't the place to sort it out (though you're welcome to make your point here of course). I actually take no position on the appropriate article contents or title, I don't know enough to do so. Please use the article(s) talk page(s) to discuss this, you may also find Template:Merge helpful. ChrisHodgesUK (talk) 14:50, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Restored content on Bristol Rovers page

The women's section on the Bristol Rovers article was removed as Bristol Academy have no link with Rovers these days and haven't for a while. In fact, they've today announced that they have a tie in with Bristol City. Gasheaduk (talk) 13:58, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi GasheadUK, I didn't know that, but it would seem reasonable to keep at least the {Main|Bristol Academy W.F.C.} link because of the historical ties. The original wording does say had a successful women's team so is still valid. If you've got a reference (presumably the evening post would have something) to the link with City, then it might make sense to cut the section down to a sentence for historical reasons and add that link.
