The 2013–14 season is Galatasaray's 110th in existence and 56th consecutive season in the Süper Lig. They will be aiming for an unprecedented 20th League title, after winning the Süper Lig the previous season.

In Europe, Galatasaray will be competing in the Champions League for a 13th season. As well as this, they will also compete in a domestic cup – the Turkish Cup – and will enter this tournament in the fourth round.

This article shows statistics of the club's players in the season, and also lists all matches that the club will play in the season. It covers a period from 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014.

Season overview

  • At the end of the 2012-13 season, Galatasaray has begun official negotiations regarding the transfer of French professional football player Aurélien Chedjou from Lille.[1] On 25 May 2013, it is reported that Chedjou signed the contract for 4 years. The original bid of Galatasaray was reported as €6.3 million, also Chedjou would receive a salary of €2.2 million per year.[2]
  • On 5 June 2013, Turkish tireless midfielder Erman Kılıç signed. He was out of contract from his last club Sivasspor, and would receive a salary of €380K (950K ) per year.[3]
  • On 6 June 2013, a new contract is offered to left-back Hakan Balta. Galatasaray announced that the contract will remain until 2016 and Hakan Balta will receive a salary of €950K per year.[4]
  • On 21 June 2013, Galatasaray revealed the pre-season summer camp schedule on the website. The camp schedule for the Galatasaray professional football team prior to the next football season begins on Monday, July 1 at the Florya Metin Oktay Facilities. Then on July 8 the squad is going to fly to Birmingham, United Kingdom for an 8-day camp at the St George's Park National Football Centre. During the camp days Galatasaray will play two friendly games with two English teams. Following the second match Galatasaray will return to Istanbul on July 20 and then fly to Izmir the next day for another friendly game there against Málaga. On July 29 Galatasaray football team will play against S.S.C. Napoli in Stadio San Paolo to continue summer camp. On August 2 Galatasaray will be flying for London to participate at the Emirates Cup tournament hosted by Arsenal F.C.. Finally Galatasaray returns to Istanbul to continue its preparations for the 2013 Turkish Super Cup derby versus Fenerbahçe on Sunday August 11.[5]
  • On 2 July 2013, new contracts are offered to centre-back Gökhan Zan and midfielder Engin Baytar. Galatasaray announced that the contracts will remain until 2016 and the two player will receive a salary of €850K per year.[6] Also on the same day, goalkeeper Ufuk Ceylan is transfer listed by request.[7]
  • On 4 July 2013, a new contract is offered to winger Aydın Yılmaz. However, there wasn't any negotiations, therefore he is not considered as a senior team member anymore.[8] Also, left-back Çağlar Birinci is released from the club.
  • On 8 July 2013, Galatasaray announced the 23-man squad for the pre-season summer camp. Manager Fatih Terim did not add 6 players to the camp squad, which are either out of contract or transfer listed.[9][10] Also on the same day, it is revealed that the club parted ways with veteran defender Tomáš Ujfaluši. He was out of contract since 30 June, and the club possibly did not seek to elongate his contract for another year.[11]
  • On 9 July 2013, it is announced that Galatasaray and Toulouse FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Turkish striker Umut Bulut. He spent his time on a loan at Galatasaray last season and he managed to score 15 goals in 38 matches. The original bid of Galatasaray was reported as €2.7 million. Galatasaray announced that the contract will remain until 2017 and Umut Bulut will receive a salary of €1.7M per year.[12]
  • On 16 July 2013, Galatasaray has begun official negotiations regarding the transfer of Brazilian professional football player Felipe Melo from Juventus. Tireless midfielder had spent his last two seasons at Galatasaray.[13] On 20 July 2013, it is reported that Brazilian professional football player Felipe Melo signed the contract for 3 years. The original bid of Galatasaray was reported as €3.75 million, also Felipe Melo would receive a salary of €3.1 million per year.[14]
  • On 28 July 2013, Galatasaray has announced the sponsorship agreement with HCL Technologies which is one of the largest IT company in India. HCL will be advertised in club's shorts, and for this sponsorship HCL will give $1.5M per year.[16]
  • On 7 August 2013, it is announced that the contract of the midfielder Emmanuel Culio is terminated by Galatasaray.[18]
  • On 21 August 2013, it is announced that the tireless striker Johan Elmander is loaned out for a year to Norwich City. Galatasaray will receive €1.67M.[20]
  • On 22 August 2013, Galatasaray has announced the sponsorship agreement with W Collection.[21]
  • Having finished first in the league last season, Galatasaray will begin their UEFA Champions League campaign in the group stage. Courtesy of their UEFA coefficient, they were seeded in Pot 3 for the draw, which took place in Monaco on 29 August 2013. Galatasaray were drawn into Group B, along with Real Madrid from Spain, Juventus from Italy, and Copenhagen from Denmark. Galatasaray were previously drawn with Real Madrid and Juventus in group and knock-out stages, while Copenhagen is a new opponent.
  • On 2 September 2013, hours before the registration deadline for UEFA, Galatasaray has begun official negotiations regarding the transfer of Portuguese professional football player Bruma from Sporting CP.[23]
  • On 3 September 2013, it is reported that Portuguese professional football player Bruma signed the contract for 5 years. The original bid of Galatasaray was reported as €10 million, also Bruma would receive a salary of €1 million per year.[24]
  • On 3 September 2013, after 2 months from the latest contract offer, Aydın Yılmaz signed a new contract until 2016. Aydın will receive a salary of €680K per year.[25] On the same day, the club also renewed Aykut Erçetin's contract for a year.[26]
  • On 24 September 2013, Galatasaray has announced the dismissal of head coach Fatih Terim.[30]
  • On 30 September 2013, Galatasaray has announced the new head coach Roberto Mancini. Roberto Mancini have signed a contract for three years starting from the 2013-2014 football season and will receive a salary of €3.5M per year.[31]
