Cara Jocelyn Delevingne (/dɛlɛˈviːn/ de-le-VEEN;[3] born 12 August 1992)[4][5] is an English fashion model, socialite, actress and singer.[6][7][8]

Early life and family

Delevingne was born in London, the daughter of Pandora Anne Delevingne (née Stevens) and property developer Charles Hamar Delevingne.[6] She attended Bedales School in Hampshire. She has two older sisters, Chloe and model Poppy Delevingne. Her godfather is Condé Nast executive Nicholas Coleridge,[9][10][11] and her godmother is actress Joan Collins.[12]

Delevingne's maternal grandfather was publishing executive and English Heritage chairman Sir Jocelyn Stevens,[6][10] nephew of magazine publisher Sir Edward George Warris Hulton and grandson of newspaper proprietor Sir Edward Hulton, 1st Baronet.[13][14] Her maternal grandmother Janie Sheffield was lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret.[6][15] Her paternal great-grandfather was the Canadian-born British politician Hamar Greenwood, 1st Viscount Greenwood.[5][6] Through one of her maternal great-great-grandfathers, Sir Lionel Lawson Faudel Faudel-Phillips, 3rd Baronet, Delevingne descends from the Anglo-Jewish Faudel-Phillips baronets; two of her ancestors on that line served as Lord Mayor of London.[16][17][18]

Career

Modelling

Delevingne signed with Storm Model Management in 2009 and modelled in Clements Ribeiro and Burberry fashion shows in 2010.[19]

In 2011, Delevingne was featured in Burberry's spring/summer 2011 campaign.[20] Delevingne later became the face of Burberry's spring/summer 2012 campaign shot by Mario Testino alongside actor Eddie Redmayne.[21]

As a young girl, Delevingne modelled for Cadbury chocolate ads. She is currently the face of Burberry's Beauty campaign alongside fellow British models Edie Campbell and Jourdan Dunn.[22]

Delevingne has featured in advertising campaigns for other brands including H&M Authentic Collection (2011), Dominic Jones Jewellery (2012), Blumarine, Zara, and Chanel.[23] She was recently described by British Vogue as the "star face" of the autumn/winter 2012-2013 show season, having appeared on the catwalk for brands such as Shiatzy Chen, Moschino, Jason Wu, Oscar de la Renta, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Stella McCartney, Dsquared and Chanel.[24] Delevingne has graced the covers of Vogue UK thrice including a supplement cover in 2011, Vogue (Korea, Australia, Brasil, Japan, Italia, Portugal), LOVE, i-D, Russh, Jalouse, and Style.com's Spring 2013 issue.[25] In addition, she was the cover girl of W's September 2013 issue.[26] She also walked down the catwalk as a model in the 2012 and 2013 Victoria's Secret fashion shows. She is also the face of Chanel's Resort 2013 campaign[27] along with Dutch model Saskia de Brauw.[28] She also landed the face of DKNY in late 2012.

Delevingne's distinctive dark, bushy eyebrows, made conspicuous by her blonde-dyed hair, are her model trademark.[6][12][7]

In 2012, Delevingne won the "Model of the Year" award at the British Fashion Awards.[6][29]

On 6 September 2014, Delevingne was named as the newest endorser for Penshoppe, a clothing brand in the Philippines.[30]

Acting

Delevingne had a small part in the 2012 film adaptation of Tolstoy's Anna Karenina, as Princess Sorokina, the marriage interest of Count Vronsky played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson.[12] In 2013, Delevingne appeared in the Grand Theft Auto V video game as the DJ for the Non-Stop-Pop FM radio station.[31][32] She also stars opposite Kate Beckinsale and Daniel Bruhl in the thriller The Face of an Angel, expected to be released theatrically in 2014.[33] In April 2014, it was reported that Delevingne will play the role of Henrietta in period romance film Tulip Fever directed by Justin Chadwick. She will also play a small part in the 2015 fantasy film Pan directed by Joe Wright.[34] On 16 September 2014 it was announced that Delevingne would play the lead female role of Margo Roth Spiegelman in the film adaptation of John Green's novel Paper Towns.[35]

Music

Delevingne also sings and plays the drums.[8][36] In 2013 she recorded an acoustic duet cover version of "Sonnentanz" with Will Heard.[37][38]
