Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Qa screenshot2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Qa screenshot2.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 07:33, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File copyright problem with File:8mormonproposition.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:8mormonproposition.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page. If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:05, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop marking content-containing edits as "minor edits"

Please read Help:Minor edit and honor the points it makes. In short, "minor edits" should be limited to the very barest, least controversial changes, such as things like citation reformatting and spacing. Editors often automatically omit "minor edits" from their watchlists, marking an edit that contains even a modest content change as minor is seen by a large number of editors as "trying to sneak something by them", which is a particular problem for articles which are potentially controversial. Thanks !--je deckertalk 18:38, 21 June 2010 (UTC) PS: Sorry about stepping on your toes trying to put that info back. It's back in the location you put it in first. I did a tiny bit of cleanup to the citation format, but it's otherwise as you left it. --je deckertalk 18:44, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the nice note on my Talk page! Happy editing! --je deckertalk 17:29, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Box Elder High School, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.behs.besd.net/index2.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.)

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Help identifying BYU football coaches

Hello, I noticed that you made many edits on articles pertaining to BYU football and I was wondering if you could help me identify some of the coaches in this image. Thanks. Thomson (talk) 00:00, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your response. Do you think the fourth person from the left looks like Brandon Doman? Thomson (talk) 23:42, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also, here is another photo of BYU coaches I want you to help be identify. To me, it looks like the coach at the very left is either Kelly Poppinga or Ben Cahoon, the coach shouting resembles Lance Reynolds, the coach third from the left is Nick Howell and the coach at the very right is Brandon Doman. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Wisconsin–River Falls Falcons women's ice hockey requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organized event (tour, function, meeting, party, etc.), but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that your page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Cobalion. File permission problem with File:Mormon rap.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Mormon rap.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 19:46, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace. If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it. You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements. If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13. Thank you for your attention. WP principles

The principles I was referring to do not concern editing nuts and bolts. They concern the overall goals and purpose of Wikipedia: 1. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a web page; 2. Information added to Wikipedia must have reliable sources; 3. Wikipedia is coherent, not a collection of randomly added information. What I've seen so far from your students is a lot of scattershot additions written in a chatty, editorial, verbose, unencyclopedic style.

Improving the UWRF article is a nice goal. Perhaps if your students first read the Wikipedia:College and university article guidelines, and then examined some featured and good university and college articles, they might get an idea of what constitutes quality encyclopedic content, writing, and organization. Other useful reading includes: Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not. It might also be useful for them to collaborate on an outline for the article and a plan for achieving improvements. (Collaboration is always a good skill to learn.) Their energy is welcome; to improve WP it just needs to be better channeled.

BTW, what is your goal for having them learn to edit Wikipedia? 71.139.148.177 (talk) 17:29, 16 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You might also want to talk with them about plagiarism and copyright violations. 70.235.84.123 (talk) 20:09, 16 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I refer you to the note immediately below the list of criteria on WP:NMUSIC: Note that members of notable bands are redirected to the band's article, not given individual articles, unless they have demonstrated INDIVIDUAL notability for activity INDEPENDENT of the band, such as solo releases. (Emphasis added.) Kaplan is an amazing singer, but he is notable ONLY as a member of Pentatonix, not as a result of his own, independent efforts. The guidelines are very clear on this, I'm sorry. A tag has been placed on File:Ezekiel Ansah, football player for the Detroit Lions.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If no such tag exists, please add the {{Non-free fair use}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

Regarding cut-and-paste move of Ryan Hamilton to Ryan Hamilton (ice hockey player)

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Ryan Hamilton a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen. File permission problem with File:Cullen Douglas, 2015.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Cullen Douglas, 2015.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 04:56, 23 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Morkie

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Morkie, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Rock Tape, a page you created, has not been edited in 6 months.

HasteurBot (talk) 01:36, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Rock Tape

Hello, Tbc32. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Rock Tape".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by one of two methods (don't do both): 1) follow the instructions at WP:REFUND/G13, or 2) copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Draft:Rock Tape}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, and click "Save page". An administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. JMHamo (talk) 19:40, 8 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Bean

Hi there,

I notice you converted Michael Bean from a redirect into a full article; thank you for your contribution.

However, if you're going to do this you should still acknowledge the reason the redirect was made in the first place; in this case that's by including {{distinguish|Michael Biehn}} at the start of the article, which expands into "Not to be confused with Michael Biehn." There are other types of disambiguation "hatnote" like this, but the principle is the same.

All the best, Ubcule (talk) 20:18, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
