How to create a category

Let us say you have thought of a new category you want to place some articles in. To create this new category, go to one of the pages that you wish to put there, and add a category tag naming the new category to the end of the article, like this:

[[Category:Category name]]

...where in place of category name you type the actual name of the category. When you save the page, the category should appear on the bottom line of the page. If it is indeed a new category, it will turn up in red. But this does not mean there is no such category: it might exist but with a slight difference in naming. Before you create a new category, make sure it does not already exist. In a new browser window, click on Special pages in the toolbox menu on the left side of your screen. Then click on All pages. Pick Category from the Namespace dropdown menu, and then enter the name of the category. Look over the index for synonymous categories.

Once you are sure your new name is good to go: Click on the redlink, and then click on the article creation link provided in the instructions that appear on your screen.

You will need to put a parent category on the new page, and then save the page. Going forward you can put your newly named category at the bottom of pages that you wish to add your new category to. Categories with too few pages in them are usually nominated for deletion.

Commonwealth Freedom of Movement Organisation deletion

in re: Commonwealth Freedom of Movement Organisation (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

I noticed you speedily deleted the Commonwealth Freedom of Movement Organisation page. This page was recently nominated for CSD with the same G11 tag and I removed it because I believe that it was an applicable candidate for G11. It says in G11 that "any article that describes its subject from a neutral point of view does not qualify for this criterion". The article seemed to be written from a neutral point of view. I would have liked to have been notified of the parts where this wasn't so. It also says at WP:CSD that "administrators should take care not to speedy delete pages or media except in the most obvious cases". Is this really one of the most obvious cases? The article was well sourced and the subject was covered by independent third party sources. Is it appropriate to readd a same CSD tag instead of going to AfD? It certainly does not seem reasonable, especially since there was not kind of assumed consensus required for it to be deleted speedily (by the tag being added and removed previously). Request to undelete my article about Transcrypt

in re: Draft:Transcrypt (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Hi Athaenara

Seems you've deleted my article about Transcrypt, an open source Python to Javascript compiler resulting from a project I started. Earlier objections against the article, that was offered for review, have been made with regard to notability by one editor.

I added some more references and also pointed to the fact that similar compilers are discussed on other Wikipedia pages. Of course that doesn't automatically mean the page is now good enough. I am quite open to reason, discussion and improvement, but destroying hours of work (not even a trace in the deletion list) without even reacting on my arguments gives a feeling of dealing with a totalitarian state rather than with a community that welcomes contributions. I invite you to share with me the reasons for deleting this page, so that I may improve it if needed.

I've tried to find it in the deletion log right after it was deleted, but couldn't find an entry for it. Could you provide me with a link. Also I'd like to read the guidelines you refer to. Consider the page for draft

in re: TechJini (company) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Dear Athaenara.

Can you consider my page for restoring it to draft space for improvement. I can improve my page by adding more appealing information with authoritative information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ramu1984 (talkcontribs) 07:55, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you speedy deleting the page. The page was recreated by her agency after previously deleting it in 2015. Do you think it'd make sense to WP:SALT it? Coderzombie (talk) 08:17, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Richard Greene and clarity

in re: Richard Greene (author and speaker) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Hi. So, not sure if you read my reaction to seeing the speedy deletion immediatly pop up on the article I was creating about author and speaker Richard Greene - but I'm pretty darn confused as to what's happened! I wasn't writing a promo piece about him; I thought he was a really interesting subject after I saw his Ted talk and poked around a bit and turns out he actually is fascinating and has a really cool and interesting life and history. The guys a radio and media personality and his book (the one Penguin put out) seems pretty amazing (and has a forward by Tony Robbins. I'm asking in all sincerity for some clarity because I love being a part of wiki and I want to understand and learn; and also, I just don't get why it was so challenged? Respectfully... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Akrumoftruth (talkcontribs) 17:12, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User: Athaenara Still hoping to get clarity from you as to why you deleted the article I'd started about Richard Greene. I reached out to other users for help and they're directing me back to you. While I've been waiting to hear from you to understand your reasoning for deleting the article, I have found more solid links about him connecting him to what I wrote in the piece, including an on-camera interview on CBS News about his job as Princess Diana's speech coach. Surely that alone would be of interest to wiki community - I love wiki and I'd love to learn more about this which is why I'd investigated him in the first place ;-). I have the link to CBS as well as the link to the article about the popular radio program he created and hosted for Air America that another wiki author posted in 2007.

So please, I am asking with great sincerity - tell me what I did wrong; and if possible, tell me how I can re-write this so you'd feel better about it because I'm guessing I approached it all wrong? I want what I create to be appreciated by the community, so this hurts!... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Akrumoftruth (talkcontribs) 20:20, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's clear you admire the guy and want to promote him, but that's not what this encyclopedia is for. If he becomes notable enough that other users create a neutral and encyclopedic page about him, all well and good. If you're impatient, you can try WP:DRV and ask that it be put in your userspace as a draft to work on it further (see Help:Userspace draft). – Athaenara 23:34, 21 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

DevSecOps

Please explain your reason of Unambiguous or promotion deletion? Do you understand the subject matter as there is another Wiki page in which this term is derived form called DevOps. If DevSecOps is considered unambiguous or promotion, how does DevOps remain? Help me understand because this is very frustrating.

Hey there! I created this page for reasons that escape everyone, including me. Thank you for deleting it. But while you were deleting it, I was creating its talk page, simply asking for someone to delete it. Would you now delete the talk page for the nonexistent project page which had been a redirect to the main namespace? Jm (talk | contribs) 21:24, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pacific Union Financial

in re: Pacific Union Financial (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Hi Athaenara,

I'd like to work with you to recreate the wiki page for Pacific Union Financial - I was basing the structure/style of the page based on other financial institution articles, while trying my best not to sound promotional, but if the content needs to be further refined just let me know. I'd love to work together to get the article up and running the right way. I'm also fairly new to this, so if I reached out to you in the wrong way I do apologize.

Thanks,

I have zero interest in creating such a page. You are not going to work with me. We are not going to work together. Your efforts to avoid sounding promotional while actually being promotional are ... nevermind.
Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#G11. Unambiguous advertising or promotion and Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not#Wikipedia is not a soapbox or means of promotion are both linked in the deletion log, you should already have read them. – Athaenara 02:20, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

``Hi Athaenara, I created pages for a Black Lives Matter class at UTSA. The 13 guiding principles have no descriptions, so our assignments were to create pages for each of the guidelines. I published them today, and from the looks of it, they all were deleted. Can you please help me get them back so I can improve them or maybe tell me why they were deleted? The very nature of this subject is very controversial so I am wary and concerned as to why these links and content connected to them were deleted. Please help, Burgesspfc (talk) 01:54, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot control whether or not class assignments are appropriate or scholarly. If I were in that position, I'd first assign reading and test students' comprehension of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, for example: Wikipedia:Notability, What Wikipedia is not#Wikipedia is not a soapbox or means of promotion, and Wikipedia is not here to tell the world about your noble cause. If you read those and still then believe that your entry might belong in an encyclopedia, you may try Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion if you wish. – Athaenara 12:03, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sock puppet

in re: Manalalkhaled, Eanderson007, Edanderson-capc

You tagged Manalalkhaled as a possible sock puppet, but you don't appear to have opened a sock puppet investigation of the matter? What's the point of tagging the page if you're not going to open the investigation? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:25, 2 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A sockpuppet notice is more a shot across the bow than a full frontal assault. That's often enough to stop them. SPIs are for when it isn't. – Athaenara 17:18, 2 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hamish Blakely Article Deletion Notice

in re: Hamish Blakely (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Dear Athaenara,

I totally understand the deletion of my article. As autobiographical material I was completely ill informed regarding your guidelines about how the nature of this content is justifiably treated with caution and ultimately, rejection.

This was a considerable lapse in judgement on my part. My interest in Wikipedia will continue and to further enhance my skills as a writer/contributor, I would like to consider submitting articles, that follow Wikipedia protocol more comprehensively, in the future.

In an effort to wipe the slate clean, may I ask for the removal of the alert on my current article/talk page stating: "This page has been deleted. The deletion and move log for the page are provided below for reference." "23:40, 7 May 2017 Athaenara (talk | contribs) deleted page Hamish Blakely (G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion: more at User talk:Hamish Blakely)"

As stated, I completely accept the reasons for this template but would be very grateful if this could be removed.

Many thanks, Kind regards, Goldentundra49 (talk) 10:15, 8 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page watcher) @Goldentundra49: That's just a log entry. It will remain on the log forever. However, it is only currently visible because the page does not exist. If a page is recreated under that same title (all with regard to the guidelines on autobiographies, promotion, and sourcing, of course!) it will not be visible. Except in the log. Where it will stay forever. In any case, please do not take it as a personal stain on your character. — O Fortuna semper crescis, aut decrescis 10:49, 8 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for stepping in, Fortuna, you're welcome any time. I understand your concerns, Goldentundra49, and please understand that very few will ever see anything about that little misadventure other than a few administrators who keep track of WP:COI and related issues. It's a very small pebble that fell in a very large pond. – Athaenara 22:46, 8 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Basic questions about editing

I received a message from you Athaenara that I should have not deleted the tags from a page named Anuradha Bhattacharyya. Bri had guided me a lot. Maybe, you did not notice that? If you did and still want the tags, okay. But let me know. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Atul_Bhattacharyya#Basic_questions_about_editing

For help, I am giving you another link that I had not given previously because here, the 'about the author' material is very boring. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1bFkBuNuRivYlg5UGtlRFA0T00/view

Shouldn't YOU just 'cleanup' whatever is irrelevant in a page? Do I have to do it all the way to its final version? And still not be allowed to remove the tags? AtulAtul Bhattacharyya (talk) 22:13, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
