File permission problem with File:Judith Weinshall Liberman.png

Thanks for uploading File:Judith Weinshall Liberman.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 21:07, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Drafting an article

Hi,

I have reverted this edit buy you. If you want to draft an article, you can do so in your sandbox or start it in draft space. -- Whpq (talk) 12:40, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits

I saew your recent edits to Draft:Holocaust Wall Hangings. Good step. Please remember, as we discussed, to say not Liberman was inspired in part by... but in her autobiography Liberman says that she was inspired in part by ... (or in an interview with [whoever] Liberman says...) followed by the cite. Note that after first mention, you should always refer to her by her bare last name -- unless "Weinshall Liberman" IS her last name.

Note that other Wikipedia articles may be linked to, but may NOT be cited as sources (see Wikipedia:List of citogenesis incidents, citogenesis, and WP:CIRCULAR for some reasons why).

Analysis such as more abstract terms of places, numbers, and other symbols of destrcution must be clearly cited to a source.

I hope this is helpful. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 21:52, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking a look at the page I'm working on. As always, very good advice. The subject uses Weinshall Liberman (no hyphen) as a last name and I did double-check with her on that, so I assume it's OK to go ahead and use Weinshall Liberman on the page. I'll be careful not to use Wikipedia as a cited source and I'll also be sure to clearly cite analysis-type sources. Thanks to you and your help the other day, I'm starting to catch on. I'm going to be working on the page quite a bit tonight, so I'll be messaging you later for a critique — for when you have time. Thanks, Mentor!

Can I make reference to Weinshall Liberman's website? There are a few pieces of info I'd like to use from that site.

Hi David. When you get a minute can you take a look at this page and let me know what you think? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Holocaust_Wall_Hangings Do you think if I make your editing recommendations I could publish it tomorrow and see how it goes? Thanks! GeorgeGeorge David NH (talk) 18:11, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Anne Frank's Hiding Place - Holocaust Wall Hangings.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Citation formatting

Here are some points about formatting citations and quotations in Wikipedia that you should note for the future. An example of some edits embodying some of them is here. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 12:34, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • When you have a citation that will be used more than once, the first occurrence should look like <ref name="CiteName">(Body of the cite here)</ref>, and all other occurrences should look like <ref name="CiteName"/> without the body of the citation. Note the closing slash on the ref tag. CiteName can be any distinctive name, so long as it is unique to a given cite within the article. I like the form "NYTimes27March15" but that is merely a personal preference, anything at all will work. Actually the body need not be on the first occurrence, any occurrence will do, but the body should be on exactly ONE occurrence, all others should use the name and closing slash, without the body.
  • A cite should always follow any adjacent punctuation. At the end of a sentence, it should be after the period, at the end of a clause, it should b after the comma or semicolon.
  • When you have to cite different pages from a book, magazine, PDF, or other paginated document in different places, to avoid the bibliographic details being repeated in the list of notes, leave the |page= parameter out of the body of the cite, use a CiteName as above, and use the <ref name="CiteName"/> form on all but one of the cites. Then follow each cite with {{rp|p. PageNo}} or just {{rp|PageNo}}. This uses Template:rp, see its documentation (linked) for details.
  • Always use the |date= parameter to give the date of publication of the source if it is known.
  • When citing a newspaper or other news source, even if online, use {{cite news}} instead of {{cite web}}. It has some extra helpful parameters available, and makes it clear that this is a news source. This is not vital, the displayed cite are very similar, but is good practice. Similarly use {{cite book}} for a book. This has support for chapters, editors, and other specialized book-elated data. {{cite magazine}} and {{cite journal}} are also available when appropriate.
  • Use |isbn= for the ISBN number of a book, if available.
  • The |work= parameter (or its alternate name |websie= or |newspaper=) should be the name of the news paper, web site, or other containing work, not the URL or web domain. Do not use this for a book or other separately published source.
  • Use |publisher= for the name of the company or entity that publishes the source. Omit if not known, if it more or less duplicates the name of the source, or if the source is well-known. Do not use for the name of the source or the author, or for a URL.
  • Use the |agency= parameter to show AP, UPI, or another wire service. Use |via= when a source was digitized by Archive.org or Google books, or otherwise is transmitted though some organization or method other than the original publication.
  • Use the |at= parameter to show a section, column, or other location in the source that is not a page. Do not use if page or pages is used.
  • If one source quotes another, cite the original source and then "quoted in" and the source you actually read. If you have checked the original, you can cite it and omit the source that quotes it.
  • Use straight quotes ("), not angled quotes or curly quotes, to mark all quotations. However, long quotes, of several sentences or multiple paragraphs, should be formatted with a block indent, using a <blockquote>...</blockquote> tag. In such cases, omit the quotation marks. Avoid such long quotes if possible.
  • A cite should always directly follow any quotation, right after the closing quote mark, or at the end of the sentence when a short quote is part of a longer sentence. If in doubt, oe i there are multiple cites in the sentence, put it right after the closing quote mark.
  • In the prose just before or just after the quote, give the source of the quote (the person or organization who said or wrote it) and where and/or when it was said/written. Give the reader context to understand the source of the quote, without needing to read the footnote.
  • Wikipedia uses "logical quotation". This means that punctuation goes inside the quote marks only if it is part of the original quotation.

I hope these notes will be helpful. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 12:34, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That's helpful information and I'll be referring to it often in the future. The next challenge I've set for myself is to write a Wikipedia page that meets the "Good" criteria. GeorgeGeorge David NH (talk) 13:05, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That is quite doable. Indeed I wouldn't be surprised if the Holocaust Wall Hangings could be gotten to that level. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 14:04, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Google listing

Hi David. I put the article on the main page. It does not appear on Google search but is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holocaust_Wall_Hangings Also, when I type in "Holocaust Wall Hangings Wikipedia" I get search results to the pages where we've submitted photo uploads:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hands_Up_from_the_Holocaust_Wall_Hangings https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hands_Up_from_the_Holocaust_Wall_Hangings_Collection.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Anne_Frank%27s_Hiding_Place_-_Holocaust_Wall_Hangings.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Anne_Frank%27s_Hiding_Place_from_the_Holocaust_Wall_Hangings_Collection.jpg

I don't understand this. Do you? GeorgeGeorge David NH (talk) 19:43, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delay in responding. Google has a delay before a new page is listed with them, and Wikipedia has no control over how long the delay is. Don't worry, the page will be listed in due course. 14:41, 22 April 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for getting back to me and thanks for your advice while I learn the Wikipedia ropes.
When you get a minute will you take a look and see if you know why these are here? They shouldn't come up in a Google search, should they?
Also, I have someone telling me that when she clicks on the word "Exhibition" in the content box, it brings her down the page but the word "Exhibition" isn't there. It works correctly for a few other people I've asked. Its correct in the code, so is there a reason you can think of why this may be happening? GeorgeGeorge David NH (talk) 15:50, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It is normal for Google to index image pages on Wikipedia. Wikipedia has pretty much no control over what google chooses to index or when, I urge you not to worry about it. If you think a mistake has been made, use Google's feedback form. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 18:32, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The link to the section works for me. Depending on one's browser settings and whether there is image content or collapsed content on the page, the browser may scroll too far. Clicking the address bar and pressing return again without typing anything often corrects this. Otherwsie I don't know what can be done. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 18:32, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Again, helpful information. Thank you. GeorgeGeorge David NH (talk) 00:20, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Did you Know?" nomination

As you can see on Talk:Holocaust Wall Hangings, I have nominated this article for the Did You Know? feature. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 18:25, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A reviewer has raised a concern at Template:Did you know nominations/Holocaust Wall Hangings. The statement began studying drawing, painting, sculpture, and other art mediums at the Art Institute of Boston (then called the School of Practical Art), the School of the Museum of Fine Arts,[5] the DeCordova Museum School, the Boston University College of Fine Arts, and the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. is not well sourced. Where did you find the list of institutions at which she studied? was it in her autobiography, or one of her interviews? this is the sort of non-contentious statement that can be cited to a self-published source. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 17:07, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

1. I just provided a link to the list of art schools source. I collected that information from http://www.jliberman.com/curriculum.html#art

2. I just italicized the names of newspapers.

3. The title of the article "Powerful works on fabric a tribute to Holocaust" is capped this way in the source - The Cleveland Jewish News

Thank you. The reviewer was correct, source titles should be in title case, i.e with initial caps except for "small words" such as "of" and "the". The names/titles of books, newspapers, magazines and other publications should be in italics. Not a major issue, but good practicve. I am not sure how I missed those before 20:52, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
As I mentioned before, when using a citation multiple times, only one should have the full cite, the others just the refname. I have corrected this in the article. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 20:52, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

OK - got it regarding multiple citations. Thank you. Do you see anything else that I need to correct? GeorgeGeorge David NH (talk) 22:40, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I improved the reference for source 26 (Boston Public Library) GeorgeGeorge David NH (talk) 22:53, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I added source 5 as a reference to the fact that Weinshall Liberman studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts George David NH (talk) 23:14, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I tweaked Critical response section for MLA improvements George David NH (talk) 23:21, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Looking good to me, I don't see anything else needed, and the reviewer says it is now ok. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 00:23, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Great. I'm looking for a subject for my next page. Thanks for your input thus far. George David NH (talk) 00:56, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I like your idea of tackling the Weinshall Liberman page. I'd collected a lot of information — some useful, some unusable. DYK for Holocaust Wall Hangings

On 10 May 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Holocaust Wall Hangings, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Holocaust Wall Hangings (example pictured) are a series of fabric banners created between 1988 and 2002 illustrating the plight of the Jewish people and other minorities during the Holocaust? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Holocaust Wall Hangings. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Holocaust Wall Hangings), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Invitation to participate in study

Hello,

I am E. Whittaker, an intern working with the Scoring Team to create a labeled dataset, and potentially a tool, to help editors deal with incivility when they encounter it on talk pages. We are currently recruiting editors to be interviewed about their experiences with incivility on talk pages. Would you be interested in being interviewed? The interviews should take ~1 hour, and will be conducted over BlueJeans (which does allow interviews to be recorded). If, so, please reply to this message or email me at ewhit@umich.edu in order to schedule an interview. .

Thank you Ewitch51 (talk) 15:16, 16 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, E. Whittaker. I am perfectly willing to be interviewed about incivility on Wikipedia — it's a real issue. Due to time constraints, I'm unable to spend close to an hour discussing the subject, but I would gladly give you ten or fifteen minutes of my time.
