::It's right around 10 printable pages, which is probably about the longest we should let it get. I wouldn't say that it needs to be trimmed down that much, though. I think a lot of other album articles are shorter just because there isn't as much information available about the album's creation/gestation, or there isn't much of a "story" to tell. Achtung Baby is different on both accounts. I think if there's anything that might need trimming, it might be some of the details about the individual songs in the "Composition" section. But even so, I trimmed them down already from what they were. Y2kcrazyjoker4 (talk) 07:04, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

Taronga Zoo
I am very capable of reading sources and your removal of the information regarding where the baby elephant is being held is rather amusing. I am a Zoo Director and I am well aware of where the baby is being held it is in the Veterinary and Quarantine centre, were ALL sick and injured animals held at taronga go. Maybe you should be more carefull before removing information. U2 360 images

If you still think the Bono & Adam Clayton shot is too dark, there's also this one of Bono and The Edge which I just uploaded to Commons. Granted it doesn't have Bono's arm around Edge's neck, but it's a bit more forward-facing and I think a bit clearer/brighter (though the very bottom-left corner does admittedly have the very edge of my friend's hair in the shot). MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 02:28, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was messing around with my image programs and accidentally figured out how to lighten the image of Bono and Adam Clayton. I've cropped it too per your suggestion and reuploaded it. Hope you like it. MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 02:59, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New song articles

I wasn't sure if you'd noticed or not, but earlier today I put out song articles for "Breathe" and Unknown Caller". I was wondering if you'd be able to take a quick look at them and see if I've missed anything major. I think there's enough developmental information in both of them for an article to be okay on the notability side of things. Cheers, MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 01:39, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

pic sizes

What is the obsession about choosing the same number to represent pixel width when the height, and therefore the size, of most of the pictures is different? It makes no sense, and is not a recognised method in policy or style guides. Why? Now we have quite different sizes for some, because you've imposed this notion of the same px setting. Each image has different requirements in terms of detail, interest, quality and context. Each image has a different height. I did not agree with your insistence in the INXS article; I certainly do not agree here. Tony (talk) 15:43, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Each pic has different requirements such that you have 230, 240, and 250 pix? Come on. That's silly. I agree that default 180px is too small, but the personal and inconsistent whimsy to which you are changing pics is not the solution - it's worse. As for the U2 article, you ended up with your way so please lighten up. --Merbabu (talk) 15:48, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PS - as for the style guide my edits were based on previous and long standing version of the style guide - I never did find the discussion regarding the change. --Merbabu (talk) 15:57, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Zany articles

I know you enjoy finding and reading some zany articles from time to time (such as Tastes like chicken), so I was wondering if you've checked out the Twitter account Best of Wikipedia? They've got a whole whack there that's worth looking at. Cheers, MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 03:39, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oops

Oh man, that's hilarious. I can't believe something like that actually happened. I wonder how I've never heard that story before. MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 04:26, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder how much that cost them. They never got the rights to "Send in the Clowns" even for the remastered Red Rocks DVD; it must have been a considerable amount. The old cover is definitely a lot more striking. It makes you wonder what the band would have used if no deal had gone through. It just looks like any other castle really. I find that they seem to have a lot more character when they are in ruins, for whatever reason. MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 05:00, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, on a completely unrelated subject, this is probably the strangest "mix" that I've ever heard for any U2 song. MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 05:03, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hahah, after a few listens the Chipmunk version gets catchy and *almost* likeable ;) That is a really good remix; I think the highlight of my live collection was hearing a ZooTV With or Without You that had this absolutely beautiful little solo tacked on at the end; I think it may actually be the same one as is in this remx! I've always been a bit sad that they didn't keep it for the DVD. And yes, I remember you telling me so! That must have been an absolutely incredible night; it's still my favourite DVD they've ever put out. Dirty Day, Lemon, Love is Blindness... I would love to hear those one day... Re: Tomé Pires

Hello, thanks for your interest. I translated the information and references from the Portuguese article. Those references were on the bibliography and I thought it could be useful, so copied them here but you are right and would move it to Further Reading section. To make inline quotations would take some time, but I can try (although much of these are not online for ready consult. --Wikitza (talk) 13:01, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Running to Stand Still

Hey, I was wondering if you have any old photos of "Running to Stand Still" from your ZooTV concert lying around? We're trying to find a good photo of a live performance of the song, but Commons and Flickr either don't have anything useful or use licenses that aren't compatible with Wikipedia. MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 03:16, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Argh, that's too bad. I hope you'll be able to find them again some day; those pictures must have been amazing. MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 06:43, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nah - they were pretty average actually. More personal mementoes than anything else. --Merbabu (talk) 06:49, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, haven't seen that installment of "Classic Albums" (have seen a couple for other artists). YouTube and Blinkbox have excerpts of the program, but nothing about this song. Deleting part of economic part "Indonesia" article

Hi Merbabu, Ok, so from what I read abt you, looks like you are not Indonesian. That's alright. You love it, that's good. Nice to meet you here. Anyhow, I am Indonesian and have some education on economic so I'll be critical abt what u write on the economic side. I wasn't aware that I can just delete things right away from Wiki before so mind me on that ;)

I was deleting this part because I think it's not an up to date data..it was from 2006 data. Can you update it with the most recent one?

"As of 2006, an estimated 17.8% of the population was living below the poverty line, defined by the Indonesian government as purchasing power parity of US$1.55 per day (household income). According to the 2006 estimates, nearly half of the population was living on less than US$2 per day.[102]"

If i have some time later I would probably add my suggestion on economic part.

Cheers, Chris —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chriscarol (talkcontribs) 00:22, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: ISHFWILF

I took a bit of a look over it earlier before messing around with the Irish charts; all of it looked pretty good and there wasn't much to change beyond a few tense problems. It's definitely nice to get the "Refimprove" tag that's been hanging on for two years off (and information on the song itself too)! As a sidenote, that was a very nice version of "Bad" too. it's very helpful about your writing about Indonesia...... i added some introductions, it is economy introduction as indeed, Indonesia has the large economy and it has to be shown as the introduction besides its many poor conditions still going on there......

yet, i had a problem...... i used redirect to another page tools when writing 19th largest economy but it doesnt work..... i confuse as i used that tool in other countries and it works..... can you help me ?......

you may re-modify and i hope it can get "the redirect to another page"........ go to Indonesia page and see it !! help me please,

Yes

You make some good points - as most WP projects go into reverse at this time of the year - a new article or timeline is not a good idea - I agree.

The problem is there is such a range of quality and lack of it - in the Indonesian project - in most cases infected fly by stuff - hard to innoculate against. Will think about the issue over the weekend - hope to come up with some alternatives to the 'timeline of conflict' - which yes could be taken as POV - SatuSuro 01:56, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

hey..........

deleting an Indonesian economic description in the lead only shows your point of view..........

G-2o, next eleven, and emerging market (with the reference) is fine as the opening of Indonesia's article because it doesn't explain its economy at all, it just gives the description about Indonesia..... there are so many article which use the economic description as the lead, example : US, Greece, Brazil etc......

so, keep deleting that and i keep entering that economic description...... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mikael07 (talkcontribs) 10:50, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you delete the flags of the Sister City in Jakarta?

Dear Merbabu,

I am the one who added the flags of cities for the Jakarta's Sister City. Why do you delete it? I'm just merely following the template of Wikipedia featured articles (e.g. New York City). Please answer this, as I am planning to revert the page, otherwise it will be a useless deleting and undeleting experience. Can you please tell me if you replied my message.

Rochelimit (talk) 02:30, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Merbabu, I am adding back the flag to keep the consistency, don't delete it again please :) . BTW thanks for moving the 'bombing' article to the history section
Rochelimit (talk) 17:22, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Merbabu, I notice you deleting the flag pictures again. I was hoping that you will inform me about this, at least a simple response. Your link WP:PRECEDENCE is a missing link, and your description: pictures of flags are 'messy' is subjective. Actually a huge amount of articles of sister cities / twinning cities do include flags, except countries with conflicts (e.g. Ireland - Northern Ireland). Despite of that, I will just give up and leave this dispute 'undisturbed', because it is not such a big problem. Rochelimit (talk) 23:15, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A page called Bumbu (cuisine)

Hi Merbabu, I'm a newbie here, so I hope you can give me a good guidance here :) Recently I encountered this wiki page Bumbu (cuisine) that in my opinion unnecessary, because I think the word "bumbu" is just an Indonesian translation for the word "spice" or "seasoning". The article is currently a stub. Just today, I found a beautifully written page called Indonesian cuisine, and I think this really the way to go. For me, the best the bumbu page should be merged to Indonesian cuisine page (or just remove entirely because of the redundancy). But, what do you think, as an experienced editor? I have tried to talk about this matter in the bumbu paage, but I'm afraid it's not an effective way of communication since nobody read my comment there, set aside responding. Thank you in advance! Wikislemur (talk) 12:02, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

yeah, yeah, yeah

Something for the head to get around at this time of night - the hierarchy of regency/province/region or island is being usurped by current templates

But worse still - duplicated red link mess like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_East_Sulawesi - red links in the article and the template - and if you look at the WP IN entries for the same - they put them in - but literally no content and of course no WP:RS SatuSuro 12:48, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Final citations for Achtung Baby

I'm getting ready to nominate Achtung Baby for a WP:FAC, but there's still a few statements that need citations. Since you have more source material than I do, can you go ahead and use that to add footnotes so there are no more uncited statements? Thanks. Y2kcrazyjoker4 (talk) 14:07, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize for bringing this up again, but there are a few [citation needed] tags that still remain in the article where certain pieces of information needed verification. If you could add citations (since you seem to have a good array of U2 books), I'd appreciate it - we could then get the ball rolling on a FAC. Thanks. I'm noticing there's a bunch of footnotes for "Gardner" in the article, but I don't know what this reference is. Various footnotes include the years 1991, 1992, and 1994, but the only thing listed in the "References" section is her 1991 review of the album for Rolling Stone, which is already used as a separate reference elsewhere in the article. U2 360 revert

Completely and totally puzzled as to why you reverted my removal of the box office section of U2 360 tour. Had you read the discussion page, you might have noted that I am an employee of a stadium listed as 'sold out.' I can say with absolute certainty that percentage is inaccurate. User MelicansMatkin agreed with the idea of removing the questionable information, and I did just that. For some reason you reverted it, and I'm curious as to why. I am a fan myself, and believe that specific encylopedic content should always be verifiable by a second source. In this case, I would hope that U2 releases official statistics at the conclusion of the tour.

CSD tagging

Hi Merbabu. Just came across TVN Indonesia, which you tried to tag for speedy deletion on Dec 12th. The page didn't attract admin attention because you actually placed a user notification template on the article, instead of one of the valid csd templates. I've replaced it with a db-corp tag. Removal of Religions Table from Australia article

I can't argue with your point that the information is already there in text form. It is. But, as a teacher (yes, on holidays), I'd just been reading up on how important it is to present material to learners in a variety of ways so as to appeal to the inevitable range of learning styles out there. I thought the table, in it's final form, gave a neat visual representation of what could be to some people some fairly messy text. Some people are good at words. Others are good at visuals.

I'm not making a super strong point here. I was just surprised by your certainty that deleting the table was the best course of action. I liked the table.

SatuSuro 23:43, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I started ripping out the table, and then i realised the extent of it. A different approach to the Indonesia project might be for me to focus on those really important articles (most of which are also crap) - at least for me, my time might be better spent getting, say, Suharto and Bali and History of Indonesia to FA standard. maybe we should do a check of the "big" articles and see which ones are the most viewed. An, let the ratty but unimportant stuff sit for now. --Merbabu (talk) 23:58, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Indonesian military units

Hi Merbabu, there's currently a discussion about the feasibility of translating articles on the Indonesian military from the Indonesian Wikipedia at: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history#Catalan militia articles (translatable with Google and a little puzzling?) which you may wish to comment on. Nick-D (talk) 07:17, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cityscape - Why is this here anyway

Dear Merbabu,

The cityscape picture is there because most global city's article has a cityscape picture in it, which is important to give a short insight about the look of the city; AND because I was thinking of expanding the article for Jakarta's architecture.

I have a plan to expand articles about the various architecture in Jakarta, from the Dutch colonial building, the Art Deco, the modernism during the Sukarno's governmency (e.g. Hotel Indonesia / Kempinski), and the postmodernism (CBD areas). I'm hoping by contributing this 'introduction' article about Jakarta architecture, some experts will create a new article about Jakarta's architecture linked to this. I have the references (I myself studying history of architecture) but I have no time to include this to Wiki. Ive read your profile and saw that some of your interest is Indonesian architecture, maybe you can contribute some of your insight about Jakarta's architecture. --Rochelimit (talk) 12:21, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wahid

Hey, I put that on there and followed up with some notes on the page. I'm only vaguely familiar with him, but I skimmed over parts of the article which indicate in no uncertain terms that he was unfairly ousted from his leadership position, which isn't entirely true. It was an illegal removal, but the reasons for his removal are kind of washed over as an insurrection without purpose except to benefit his usurper. Again, it's subject to speculation, but I was of the understanding he was usurped from power due to controversy from his own hand. Again, I can't write the part of the article directly, because I only know what I know from my memory of the news articles i read and saw on telly 6-7 years ago. I'm putting it there so that someone more familiar with the events can copyedit the text to be a bit more neutrally written and fact-based, rather than reading like a novel. --rm 'w avu 00:58, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

australasia tag

Hi - to be honest I wasn't targetting Indonesia in any specific way, and I'm certainly mot making any kind of political point, which I'm guessing is your objection to the categorisation. I'm just adding information about flora and fauna to a number of articles about places in the WWF Australasia ecozone 3. Many of these are in Indonesia, but I'll use the Australasia (ecozone) category to group them. Hope you are OK with this Istanbuljohnm (talk) 04:28, 4 January 2010 (UTC) I am not and dont agree with it at all - the australasia term is a disaster waiting to happen - which is why I put it to the CFD - not to actually encourage usage of either categories at all SatuSuro 04:32, 4 January 2010 (UTC) Agree that Australasia is not useful as a geopolitical term but it is helpful for describing flora and fauna in and around Australia. The Wallacea transition zone could be put in both Asia and Australasia categories as it describes a mixture of plant and animal life from both continents. Would that be OK? In Use template

Hello Merbabu - I only just noticed, but could I please ask you to respect the "In Use" template? You recently changed an article Ady Gil while I was editing it. Such cross-editing makes it very hard to keep things straight at times, and also, your edit literally slipped under the radar for me - whether I agreed with it or not. I only noticed it just now, when checking the past history for something else. So please do not edit an article that someone has tagged with the template until, say there hasn't been an edit for AT LEAST half an hour or more (template say longer, actually). Cheers, Ingolfson (talk) 05:30, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I did not see the in-use tag. But, it is a request - and it is not a demand. Looking at the information I removed, it shoudl have been removed irrespective of your in-use tag. Further, the edit history is there and easy to use so it's not really that I didn't "respect" your in use tag - you didn't check the edit history. And it seems like you had no problem with my edit (one would hope so!) anyway. --Merbabu (talk) 08:58, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Achtung Baby

There's a few things I was hoping you could help me with on the Achtung Baby article. There's a footnote "Light (1993)", but the references section doesn't have anything on this publication, so I don't know what this footnote is referencing. Would you know? Also, in the "Writing, recording, and production" section, there's a section that reads, "The Edge wanted to go towards a more personal style of writing, and the band were interested in the works of Roy Orbison, Scott Walker, and Jacques Brel." It kinda sticks out as not relevant to the previous sentence (the part about the band's interest in others' work, at least). You originally added this information so I was hoping you could tweak it to be more seamless - I don't want to edit it and risk changing the original meaning. Thanks. ARGGHHH

That damned template and article should not be allowed to exist - I withdrew the delete with WP:AGF on the promise that the milhist people might find their way out of their mess - Asia templates should never have been allowed to exist - only breakdowns into sub regions that are smaller. The damned idiots who play with them should be sent to antartica with summer clothing, or forced to stare at recent changes updates for 5 hours non stop - or something similar... to assume any continuity, physically, culturally or anything else in such an entity as asia deserves scorn and chastisement of extreme kinds - it is not something that wikipedia needs - it makes us look like idiots SatuSuro 09:04, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I share your frustration at that template, although your post suggests you know more about the history than I do. However, I am particularly keen to approach it in a rational and civil manner. I suggest it's just a simple mistake with the three I've mentioned and won't be a major drama to have them corrected (although, if they won't be corrected, then I'm not looking forward to the discussion to have the other 30 Indonesian provinces added for balance!). The Papua ones might be a little bit more tricky, that's why I haven't mentioned them yet. Do the easy 3 first. --Merbabu (talk) 09:08, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. It appears that you have been canvassing—leaving messages on others' talk pages to notify them of an ongoing community decision, debate, or vote—in order to influence editors of U2-related articles. While friendly notices are allowed, they should be limited and nonpartisan in distribution and should reflect a neutral point of view. Please do not post notices which are indiscriminately cross-posted, which espouse a certain point of view or side of a debate, or which are selectively sent only to those who are believed to hold the same opinion as you. Remember to respect Wikipedia's principle of consensus-building by allowing decisions to reflect the prevailing opinion among the community at large. ArticlesForRedemption 02:08, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Gawd that policy is absurd - the Indonesian project would not exist if that was taken to its logical absurdity SatuSuro 02:16, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Go ahead and "complain" please. I'd like to see which rules I've violated. ArticlesForRedemption 02:19, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please dont misinterpret - I am saying basically it would take some of the majority of the less intelligent editors that inhabit this circus to misuse such a finely tuned policy - some eds simply go off wiki now less they get nabbed by the canvass police - it is really a fundamental misunderstanding of the word consensus.
Also an edit history that short and getting involved in such a process suggests quack quack quack as in WP:DUCK SatuSuro 02:23, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There's no way this is a new editor. And, it's unlikely they have a legit reason to run an alternative account. --Merbabu (talk) 02:50, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Which is even funnier the more I think about it - how is that socks have such infallible reasoning - David Yorke where are you after all this time? SatuSuro 02:54, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
THey are convinced they are right, and learn all the policy and flimsy essays they can to justify themselves and their actions. Anything on wikipedia is justifiable with a link to something - but justification is not the same as reasonable. --Merbabu (talk) 02:56, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Achtung Baby - end of year Rolling Stone readers polls

I've found the awards they won online and added them to the Achtung Baby article, but the website reference is hardly reliable, especially considering we are preparing to get the article nominated for WP:FA. I instead referenced a Rolling Stone article that mentions 2-3 of the awards. I could have sworn I just read these in "U2 at the End of the World", but I can't for the life of me find where it is. Would to know if this info is in that book? Y2kcrazyjoker4 (talk) 05:44, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just check Flanagan's index - it's a fantastic resource. One of the best indexed books I've come across. I have a few more articles I'd like to comb. Actually, I've got heaps, but most seem to say what's already in the article. However, there are stacks of reviews and people's opinions some of which are very interesting, but where does one stop. anyway, i trawl these and see if there's anything more factual. I wouldn't get too concerned about rushing back to FAC (in fact, I didn't know til last week that it had been closed!). --Merbabu (talk) 06:19, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
PS - I am, of course, joking about Flanagan's index - there is none. It's so frustrating - such a long book with great info but no way to locate it quickly. By the way, have u got to the part where the crew imitates the flight crew's safety briefing? --Merbabu (talk) 06:20, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure if I've gotten to that part - I'm at the "Numb" music video filming. Y2kcrazyjoker4 (talk) 06:23, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yes - that's hilarious too. Larry gangs up on Edge, right? Anyway, as for your intial questions, there is some stuff from memory in McGee's book. I will check it tonight. Remind me if I don't. Or, in the meantime I might have put it into the Timeline article(??). --Merbabu (talk) 06:25, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is it the rolling stone awards you want?:

 • 4 March: In Rolling Stone magazine's readers' poll U2 win Best Band, Artist of the Year, Comeback of the Year, Best Tour, Best Album, and Best Album Cover, and Best Single (for "One"). Bono is voted Best Male Singer, Best Songwriter and Sexiest Male Artist. Mullen is voted Best Drummer and Edge and Clayton are runners up in their respective categories. Critics are slightly less enthusiastic.[1]

Got to go now. --Merbabu (talk) 06:30, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ha! You got that pretty damn quickly. Thanks. Y2kcrazyjoker4 (talk) 06:36, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You said I probably shouldn't be in any hurry to get this back to FAC. I think it's actually ready to be renominated, though, as all the issues brought up in the first nomination have been addressed, and I've spent weeks simply re-reading the article and copyediting. I just wanted to see if you would object to me re-nominating it before I went ahead and did so. Let me know. Y2kcrazyjoker4 (talk) 05:26, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to copyedit myself. There's also a lot of stuff that probably doesn't need to be there. It's very long. But, that doesn't get around the previous FAC problem with this article (and most other FACs), which is the lack of fresh eyes on prose. --Merbabu (talk) 05:42, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's right around 10 printable pages, which is probably about the longest we should let it get. Y2kcrazyjoker4 (talk) 07:04, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
