Revision as of 21:04, 7 February 2014

Just in case anyone wants to talk to me.... Peridon (talk) 20:42, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The rest of this is archived somewhere. There's a nice little bot comes in and tidies up. (Could do with one at home...) A very kind person has organised an archive box that even has a search bar in it. (No beer, though...)

PLEASE ADD MESSAGES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE SO THAT I WILL SEE THEM. I LOOK THERE FIRST. Post at the top and you risk being missed altogether. Thanks. Do put a heading inside == == and sign with ~~~~. If you don't get a reply from me (or one of the stalkers...) within a reasonable time, you've probably not read this. If you have read it and ignored it, it's your own fault. If you haven't read it, READ IT NOW. Another reason to post at the bottom is that if you post at the top and someone else posts at the bottom, I'll see their message, but won't suspect there's another. Up to you. Ignore this if you want. Just don't blame me.

Happy holidays!

Deletion of Brian Barnett

Hi Peridon, yesterday you deleted the article Brian Barnett per ("A7: Article about an eligible subject, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject)". IIRC this was the 3rd—or was it 4th?— time this article was deleted. Some of its "authors" were blocked for this yesterday, specially user Ekhogroup (talk · contribs) who also uploaded the image [1] and who is blocked indefinitely for this. Now the article was, let's say, once more recreated again with exactly the same content as before by some new username Michaellandis (talk · contribs) who is likely (wp:DUCK) another instance of the original author. User NatGertler (talk · contribs) tagged it for deletion again ([2]). Is there a way to create-protect this article? Cheers - DVdm (talk) 08:09, 24 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The two other articles under this title were about a Canadian sprinter and a minor league player. Different people. I'm adding a prod2. Peridon (talk) 12:32, 24 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ah... so they got redirected to Bryan Barnett. That explain things. Thanks. - DVdm (talk) 13:19, 24 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If anyone is considering starting a WP:SPI, may I suggest they also include User:76.26.162.8, who has edited the current article and whose previous work was mainly an AFC for an article about Brian Barnett under a stage name. --Nat Gertler (talk) 16:30, 24 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Checking the block, I see it's a mere username block, not a blocked-for-edits block; as such, editing under a different username is not an offense, so no SPI needed. --Nat Gertler (talk) 17:20, 25 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Help with article move mess

Hi, Peridon! Can you help straighten out a mess at a page that has been moved multiple times during AfD discussion? (I wish people wouldn't do that.)

Wow, that was fast! Thanks! --MelanieN (talk) 19:44, 24 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think everything's where it should be now. Peridon (talk) 19:46, 24 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've changed the redir at Alcohol without liquid to target the current title of the article. Peridon (talk) 19:53, 24 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Eva Haller is my first big article here! The user Ireneshih (talk) marked her with no significance stated for an AfD. She is an Honorary Professor, the Board Chair at numerous non-profits, including Free the Children, the largest charity in Canada, amongst others, so I don't understand how she has no significance?! I saw that you posted on Ireneshih's talk page, as I have. The AfD for my article has been up for a while now, without Ireneshih or anybody else commenting on it or making a decision. Could you help? Many thanks United191 (talk) 07:05, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Honorary positions are not necessarily notable. You have plenty of references, but I'd suggest reading WP:RS (again if you already have...). Too many of your refs are not independent, or are listings, or in the case of her husband's obit, don't seem to be about her. The AfD will be up foe seven days, and if people haven't !voted (the ! is because it's not a head count), it'll be relisted as there is no consensus (one all at the moment). See what you can do about refs, and talk to MelanieN who is good at digging things up and knows what's what at AfD (see above post...). I think there's a fair chance, but the refs do need improving. Actually, 'significance' is the standard for speedy deletion. It's notability at AfD - WP:BIO. And coverage in good sources. Peridon (talk) 10:25, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I'm wondering about the Timothy Ball deletion. To me, it's an utter no-brainer that the man is notable. Why can't we have an article telling about him? Best always, Yopienso (talk) 06:57, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Tim Ball

Hi! I'm wondering about the Timothy Ball deletion. To me, it's an utter no-brainer that the man is notable. Why can't we have an article telling about him? Best always, Yopienso (talk) 06:57, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I posted that weirdly so undid it.

All this is undecipherable to me: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:HJ_Mitchell&action=edit&section=new

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log/delete&page=Timothy_Ball

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_Ball

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Ball

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2011_January_3

What I really don't get is why WP doesn't have a BLP on Timothy Francis Ball.

On another note, an assignment crept up on me--little sleep past two nights . . . digested 4 long journal articles and analyzed . . . computer crashed . . . amazingly kept my cool . . . did system restore. Do you know "off again, on again, gone again, Donegan"? :-) Yopienso (talk) 07:55, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wasn't me wot dun it. I just deleted a redirect to a redlink. OK. First link here is a 'make new section' on HJ's talk page (????). Second is a link to a userfied article about Ball. Jinkinson seems to be having another go. I tend to keep out of discussions on academic notability as I think the standards are ridiculous compared to those for rappers and footballers. Here, I think the notable fraud is more important than the notable academic - based on the controversies section. I don't know. I do know I wouldn't have closed that AfD either way. I definitely wouldn't speedy Ball under A7. Peridon (talk) 16:01, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh; thanks! I misread that as you having deleted the article after it was stashed away in Jinkinson's page. Sorry to say, I don't understand the word "userfy," even though I see it frequently. "Redlink" is simple, and some time ago I realized "redirect" is WP-ese for "re-name."
Yes, way back when I argued Ball is a notable denier, not a notable academic.
Today I found that this fine doctor is crowing about the deletion; if Ball is so non-notable, why does Connolley take such note of him? It seems to me that he and a few others have a perception that WP is a unique universe that comports with their ideas as opposed to reality. It seems to me they think that since they don't like Ball, if they can keep him out of WP they deny his existence/personhood. Plus, it's a game with some, I think. To me, that attitude militates against the whole purpose of WP. Why can't people who hear Ball speak or otherwise hear of him not be able turn to WP to find out more about him? He's notable. He's not.
Best wishes from Grumpy Grandma, whose burning of the midnight oil apparently lowered her immunity to a nasty little cold. Yopienso (talk) 19:00, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No, redirect isn't rename. It's for alternative versions (as when I heard 'La grande tante' and couldn't find 'La grand'tante') or likely misspellings (that aren't insulting UNLESS the insulting bit is actually in the article and referenced). Sometimes they result from a move (=rename). Userfy means move into someone's user space. For some time, it'll be safe from tagging unless it's an attack, spam or a copyvio. Have a talk with Jinkinson. I've been dripping recently, too. Not only me - I've had to do quite a bit of plumbing to stop other drips... Peridon (talk) 19:15, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Zeke Durden

Hi Peridon - forgive my unfamiliarity with Wiki. I'm a journalist trying to track down this meme character known as "Zeke Durden." Apparently, there was once a wiki entry for him, but it was deleted, I'm not sure by who. Is it possible to see what the old Zeke Durden wiki page looked like? And I'm curious as to why it was deleted. Thanks! Steve F. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.230.80.179 (talk) 20:50, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm signing through my account — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rockfeather (talkcontribs) 21:06, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

OK. It got created in April 2013 as Zeke Durden, but wasn't thought ready for article space. It was moved to Articles for Creation so it could be worked on, and I deleted a redirect that was left over. No-one touched the article for over six months, and so it got deleted. I'll restore it to User:Rockfeather/Zeke. If you decide you don't want to do anything more with it, put {{db-u1}} at the top. (Curly brackets) I've taken the AfC stuff off, and the category bit. Peridon (talk) 21:31, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
PS The references weren't thought good enough. They have to be very good for 'internet memes'. Peridon (talk) 21:33, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of material from noticeboards by non-admins

Hi Peridon! Just to let you know that you're mistaken in your statement at WP:ANI that "comments by other people on notice boards should not be removed unless they are definitely and clearly libellous or copyright violation".

According to policy, comments by others may be removed if they are evading a ban; and also should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion (emphasis in original) if they contain "Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced – whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable".

As I'm sure you're aware, it is very possible for material to be contentious, about living persons, and poorly sourced, without it being proven to be libellous.

You can find more information about this and related important Wikipedia policies at WP:BLP. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 02:12, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked ShaunitNishant

I've blocked User:ShaunitNishant and his sock. I ended up doing a complete block to where he can't edit his talk page since he's re-created his articles on the talk space. I think that between the multiple deletions at both versions of his article and the warnings on his talk page, that he's been warned enough. His attempts to get around the policies show that he's aware of why his articles were deleted to enough of a degree to where he'd know he did something wrong, so that kind of cemented things. Since this was such a severe blocking, I wanted to give you a head's up on what I did. He can still send e-mail, so if all else fails he can e-mail and argue his case. I just want to avoid him trying to get around policy again by re-recreating his article in his talkspace. Feel free to revert the talkspace ban if you want. I do feel a little guilty about that, but like I said- I have a feeling he'd just abuse the privilege. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:53, 5 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nice one. Apart from claiming that he shouldn't be deleted because he's a real person, he hasn't done much in the way of talk. I was close to blocking the sock, but I thought I'd try a stiff warning first. Definitely WP:NOTHERE. Don't feel guilty - I routinely revoke when people carry on promoting on the talk page. If another sock appears, we should go for an SPI and get it recorded. Peridon (talk) 20:44, 5 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding User talk:Sean.hoyland

Hello there - I noticed you are an administrator and wanted to reach out to you regarding some particularly vile vandalism and personal attacks that occurred on User talk:Sean.hoyland. As you can see in the edit history, a few IP vandals have been attacking this user and I wanted to ask you if there is any way to remove the edit history so the user does not need to be subject to the content of the attacks. It seems like this was done before where it says: "09:44, 7 February 2014‎ 120.198.230.67 (talk)‎ . . (2,255 bytes) (+256)‎ . . (edit summary removed)". Let me know what you think about this, thanks for your help in advance. Touch Of Light (Talk / Contributions) 10:07, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
