    Number disambiguation

I came across a number or disambiguation pages for numbers tagged {{dab}} instead of {{Numberdis}}. Is there someone I can request to have her/his script change the {{dab}} on these pages to {{numberdis}} instead. What about a bot? Iterresise (talk) 02:06, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Iterresise: Hi there! Do you have a list of those pages that you could share? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 03:03, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have a list but I have this and this and have more examples if you need. Iterresise (talk) 03:19, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'd expect it would be all pages in Category:Disambiguation pages whose titles match /^[0-9]+$/, or maybe /^[1-9][0-9]*$/ so as to exclude 0151, 081, and 018. There's 56 of the former.
Anyway, it sounds like you were looking for WP:BOTREQ, but with this few pages needing to be edited - at least, I think it's this few; I'd've thought there'd be some named like 213 (number), but there's no pages matching /^[0-9]+ \(.*/ in the cat - it'd be just as fast to edit the pages manually. List of pages. —Cryptic 03:35, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Iterresise: I used AWB to update 0.01 and 0.99 and the pages in the category whose title matches /^[1-9][0-9]*$/ GoingBatty (talk) 03:43, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Cryptic, @GoingBatty: This is quite advanced coding so have you considered 6 (disambiguation) and other similar pages? I won't ask you to explain it unless you want to. Iterresise (talk) 09:27, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's what the /^[0-9]+ \(.*/ pattern I mentioned above was meant to find. In human-readable terms, it means a title that starts with one or more digits, then a space, then an open-parenthesis. 6 (disambiguation) would be matched by that pattern, and so would 213 (number). Except, er, since it was late and I was tired, I'd forgotten that page titles use underscores instead of spaces in the database. Updated list of pages. Note in particular the false positive 177 (ship).
I've also checked for pages matching the (correct) regex in Category:All disambiguation pages but not Category:Lists of ambiguous numbers - that is, pages with a number-like title, and with any disambiguation template other than {{numberdis}}. It found only Wikipedia:2 (disambiguation), Wikipedia:1000, and Wikipedia:10000, all of which are correctly templated. —Cryptic 13:53, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Cryptic & @Iterresise: I changed the dab template on all the pages on the "Updated list of pages" except 177 (ship). GoingBatty (talk) 14:05, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That was pleasantly quick! With regard to [1], you changed {{disambiguation|number}} to {{number disambiguation}}. There as been no effect, though, since both {{disambiguation|number}} and {{number disambiguation}} populates Category:Lists of ambiguous numbers. My next question is whether {{number disambiguation}} should be deleted in favor of {{disambiguation|number}}.
Another question of mine is with regard to [2]: Could AWB be modified to detect strings "may also refer to" at least for me? My intent is to change it to "may refer to" and to move the top line into a bulleted entry. Iterresise (talk) 05:20, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not quite no effect. {{disambiguation|number}} categorizes in both Category:Disambiguation pages and Category:Lists of ambiguous numbers, {{number disambiguation}} only in the latter. They also display slightly differently ("...associated with the title 343." vs. "associated with the same number."). But yes, they should probably be reconciled one way or the other. —Cryptic 03:18, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Iterresise: If your request is for a list of articles in Category:Lists of ambiguous numbers with the words "may also refer to", then yes, I can get AWB to generate such a list. However, it's faster to just use this search. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 06:32, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    User specifically targeting my edits

Hello. I recently edited somebody's contribution to an article and they seem to have taken offence. They've left an authoritive message on my talk page even though they're not an admin or somebody who holds authority on Wikipedia, and have gone on a long string of edits to my contributions leaving derogatory language in the reasons for most of them. They're clearly annoyed that I made the justified edit to their work. How can I seek some help with this? Griseo veritas (talk) 07:13, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Griseo veritas, on the Talk Page comment: they're using an extension called WP:TWINKLE that can automatically add a large variety of template messages to user's Talk Pages. Any autoconfirmed user on Wikipedia can use it, you don't have to be an administrator. From my point of view: the user thought that perhaps you had a paid editing conflict, so left the General Note template (the lowest warning you can get), and you clarified that you aren't paid editing so there isn't an issue.
I had a look at the user's contributions and I can't see any derogatory language in the edit summaries unless I am missing something? Let's assume WP:GOODFAITH. Qcne (talk) 07:40, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Qcne, thank you very much for the quick response. 'Derogatory' may not have been the right word, but they are clearly trying to snipe at my contributions calling edits 'peacocky' and 'clumsy'. Much as I would love to assume good faith, some of their edits amount to little more than vandalism. They've cut out large swathes of content from one of my contributed pages without any reason given at all, and this has all stemmed from making a single reasoned edit against their work. Do you understand what I mean when I say this seems retaliatory? Griseo veritas (talk) 07:48, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Griseo veritas. Please read WP:Vandalism carefully. Vandalism has a very specific and narrow definition on Wikipedia. Specifically, vandalism is editing (or other behavior) deliberately intended to obstruct or defeat the project's purpose, which is to create a free encyclopedia. There is no evidence that the other editor is a vandal, so please be aware that a false accusation of vandalism is a form of harassment, so please be precise with your wording. The other editor placed a maintenance tag on Head (company), which you had edited with a summary Changed tone of some language to have less of a marketing flair. The other editor tagged the article as an ad, and you reverted, saying Huge international brand - definitely not written like an advert in your edit summary. But you were editing the "History" section, and the first three paragraphs of that section are entirely unreferenced, violating the core content policies of Verifiability and No original research. Later in that same section, we have this gem: Head also licenses its brand to makers of clothing apparel (including shoes), accessories, bicycles, skates, watches, balls, fitness Equipment and drinks, referenced to the company website. That's followed by an entirely unreferenced list of company products. Wikipedia should not host unreferenced product lists. That all looks like advertising content to me. As stated above, I recommend that you Assume good faith of other editors, unless you have compelling evidence to the contrary. Cullen328 (talk) 08:27, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I feel that compelling evidence has become apparent in the most recent addition to the user’s talk page. The same actions for the same reasons. This is what I meant by ‘retaliatory’. Griseo veritas (talk) 16:46, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry you feel this way mate. I thought we were friends now? You reverted my edit three times so I conceded the edit war to you and went and did some off-wiki stuff instead. I even tried that meditation thing you were talking about. Thanks my new little Wiki-Buddy ;-)Expressive101 (talk) 19:27, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why do I see blank/black pages when I click certain links?

Hello, I am not an editor for Wikipedia (yet), but while browsing an article that linked to the wiki page for Dalai Lama https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalai_Lama , I noticed that the page is black. Is this a browser-specific issue? I was using Firefox. I am able to view other articles as usual.

    Upload of public domain image

Hi Folks!! It's been a while since i've done this. I have an editor who want to upload a public domain image for the Cameron Prize for Therapeutics of the University of Edinburgh. Would the editor need to ask the person to contact the OTRS to prove it was public domain? scope_creepTalk 12:36, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

scope creep, this sounds like a question for Commons:Commons:Help desk, but they would probably want more details. I would guess that if the image was copyright, the copyright holder would have to contact Commons OTRS, now Commons VRT to release it as public domain, but if it was already PD, then it could be uploaded to Commons with an explanation of why it was PD. TSventon (talk) 15:10, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    @TSventon: I thought it was something like. Thanks. scope_creepTalk 15:53, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Is there an equivalent to the WikiProject banner shell for merge templates?

Talk:Glossary of video game terms has four old merge templates on it (three of which are the AfD merge templates, which are slightly larger than the normal old merge), and I was wondering if there was any way to collapse them together like the WikiProject banner shell template does for WikiProject templates. Question from User:Dylankliers

How do I protect a famous person's wikipedia from constant unwarranted edits? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dylankliers (talkcontribs)

Hi Dylankliers, if you have a conflict of interest when it comes to the subject of an article, you are very strongly discouraged from writing about them. Wikipedia attempts to maintain a neutral point of view.
Since you have indicated that you are being paid to write on someone's behalf, you must disclose your relationship, and are encouraged to request that your edits are made by a different, uninvolved editor, rather than edit directly.
In most cases, anyone can edit on Wikipedia, and pages are only protected to prevent vandalism, edit warring and the like. If something needs to be changed, please give the pages I've linked a read first, then submit an edit request. WindTempos (talkcontribs) 18:58, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Short answer, you don't. You can request protection at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection if there are e.g. recurring issues with vandalism etc, but we don't apply such protection without good reason, and the article subject being 'famous' isn't one of them. Note also that it isn't their article, it is ours, and it is entirely possible that it may contain content they don't like, if it is properly sourced, and appropriate. If there are specific issues with an article, raise them on the article talk page, or if it is serious enough to merit it, at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard. Sandbox

Hi. My article has been in the sandbox for a 10 days after being submitted. I'm wondering if there is something wrong with it or if this is standard? Thanks. Levi J. Burr (talk) 04:26, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    @levi j. burr: please don't write about yourself. ltbdl (talk) 04:27, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So the page stays in limbo. I'm starting a music business. This trite response seems unreasonable and discriminatory. Levi J. Burr (talk) 05:23, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You can move it into draft space; however, after 6 months, it is eligible for deletion. If your article is not notable and you move it to article space, it might not survive deletion. Iterresise (talk) 05:47, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is about User:Levi J. Burr/sandbox. Levi J. Burr, there is nothing unreasonable and discriminatory about the situation. Your draft is entirely unreferenced and is therefore in violation of three critically important Wikipedia policies, namely Biographies of living persons and Verifiability and No original research. There is no way under the sun that an unreferenced draft will be accepted into this encyclopedia. Your draft completely fails to make the case that Burr (presumably you) meets the stringent Notability standard for musicians. You should also read about why writing an Autobiography is strongly discouraged. As for your comment I'm starting a music business, please be aware that nobody on Wikipedia cares about your new business venture, and that self-promotion on Wikipedia is forbidden by policy. I suggest that you spend your time improving your music and promoting yourself on the countless internet platforms that allow self-promotion. Cullen328 (talk) 06:36, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, you vandalized Jack Rose (guitarist) last month. That is not a good way to win friends and influence people. Cullen328 (talk) 06:42, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Please be civil. TheAlienMan2002 (talk) 15:31, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
While I agree that the edit to Jack Rose (guitarist) could plausibly be better characterised as a "test edit" than as a "vandalism", there's nothing incivil about not bending over backwards with kindness to let down easy those editors who are here for entirely the wrong reasons and mistake Wikipedia as some sort of vehicle for self-promotion. Getting such people quickly out of the editing ecosystem and over to LinkedIn, Instagram, their own website, or whatever, is a desirable outcome both for them and for us. Question Regarding an Article

    Hello,

I wanted to ask that there is an article on a private school in Mohali,India named Shivalik Public School which has no citations and nothing just blank uncited material and is neither a prominent school and also states some unbacked claims. Does it nominates for deletion and if yes, how can it be and if no, what should be done of it.

    Regards
    The Yamantakks (talk) 06:06, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Yamantakks, in its current state, the article is terrible and shouldn't be in Wikipedia. (The same thing can of course be said about tens of thousands of articles in en:Wikipedia.) This is not a sufficient reason to call for its deletion. Imaginably, it's about a very notable school (as "notability" is defined by and for en:Wikipedia), and the article could and should be radically improved. Look for reliable sources that have substantial material about the school, and also read and digest deletion policy. If the article merits deletion, then carefully follow this recipe. (Be sure not to omit any stage.) -- Hoary (talk) 08:58, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Problem.

I have been falsely accused of COI , without any justification or facts, even though I have nothing to do with it. In addition, Efim Shabshai's article was deleted without any explanation or justification. Oschyrba (talk) 13:31, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Efim Shabshai biography has been moved back to draft space, where it belongs as lacking proper sourcing, and from a brief look lack of evidence that the subject meets Wikipedia notability criteria. AndyTheGrump (talk) 13:44, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please tell me which source should be present?
The article contains many links to articles, which proves the author's reputation. Oschyrba (talk) 14:54, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
the draft is largely unsourced and what sources you have are useless for establishing any notability. Theroadislong (talk) 14:58, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Your explanation is unreasonable and unclear. In the text of the article there are references to books, works, works of the author, who has been known in his field for many years. Please give a specific recommendation as to what is wrong, why I received baseless COI charges, after which my work was removed. I note that there have been no comments on the article for more than a month. Thank you. Oschyrba (talk) 15:16, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You have been provided with links to relevant Wikipedia policies. Read them. AndyTheGrump (talk) 15:18, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have read everything carefully, and I do not understand why the sources given in the article are unreliable or bad or incorrect. Please tell me what's wrong instead of sending me the link. Point out specific mistakes, give specific recommendations. During the month, there were no comments on the article - only some photos were deleted. Therefore, I will ask you to explain with specific facts what is wrong now. If you help contributors, please help, don't run away from answers. Oschyrba (talk) 15:30, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I you had "read everything carefully", you wouldn't be using "works of the author" as an argument for notability. We need significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject. Citations of material about the subject, not written by him. Find it. And then write a biography that can be verified by reading those sources. AndyTheGrump (talk) 15:35, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think you have the right to judge the media linked in the article as reliable or unreliable. This is your subjective point of view. But if so, give me an example (list) of sources that you think are reliable and can be trusted. Oschyrba (talk) 15:41, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You may find such a list at this link. 331dot (talk) 15:44, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
WP:RSP is by no means an exhaustive list of reliable sources. Oschyrba needs to read Wikipedia:Reliable sources, which explains identifying such sources in detail. AndyTheGrump (talk) 15:58, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Oschyrba: It is your subjective view that your sources are "reliable". Wikipedia operates by consensus. If two editors disagree, then they are supposed to discuss the disagreement in a collegial fashion, generally on the talk page of the relevant article. You are disagreeing with multiple experienced volunteer editors, none of whom have any motivation to continue to help you if you continue to use belligerent language. I recommend that you restart your discussion, on the talk page, starting with the assumption that others are actually trying to help you. -Arch dude (talk) 16:25, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You have four references in the article. Regardless of whether they are reliable or not, they are all footnotes on the Bibliography section. The whole bulk of the article, the part that actually says something about the subject, has ZERO references. TheRoadIsLong has helpfully added tags to each unreferenced section (that is, all of them), pointing out that it is unreferenced, although it's not clear to me why you can't see for yourself that there are no references in most of the article. You need a reference that supports everything you say in the article. CodeTalker (talk) 16:29, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And as for the bibliography, I was surprised to see from the draft that all of Iefym Shabshai's books have English titles. An ISBN is helpfully provided for each, so I clicked through two of these in order to find what Worldcat had to say about them. It said nothing: no title in English, Hebrew, Ukrainian, Russian, or any other language. It's not obvious that libraries are much interested. -- Hoary (talk) 23:07, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    September 17

There is no point in the existence of this page. No sources, horrible grammar, length problems, etc. JackkBrown (talk) 00:59, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What help are you requesting, JackkBrown? -- Hoary (talk) 01:09, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Hoary: to assess whether it meets the criteria of the English Wikipedia, because it seems to me that it is not suitable to remain on Wikipedia (no reference for more than 1,000 lines). JackkBrown (talk) 1:11, 17 September 2023 (UTC)
Of course it doesn't meet the criteria of the English Wikipedia. As you may have noticed. tens of thousands of articles do not. So you have a trilemma: (a) improve it; (b) move it in the direction of deletion; (c) ignore it. Note, if you're thinking of (b), that a lack of sources, horrible grammar, and length problems are not reasons for deletion. -- Hoary (talk) 01:23, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
JackkBrown, if it is true that this Italian band has sold 100 million records over its 50 plus year career, then of course the article should remain on Wikipedia. No experienced editor in their right mind would support deletion. We improve rather than deleting articles about obviously notable topics. What is needed is for an Italian speaking editor such as yourself to assemble a list of reliable sources devoting significant coverage to the band, format them into references, and rewrite the article based on summarizing what those sources say about the band. Here is a link to an English language book that discusses the band. Have you read the Italian Wikipedia article about the band? Is it in better shape? Cullen328 (talk) 01:54, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Cullen328: I'm very good at fine-tuning en.wiki pages and putting them in order (I don't make minor, but second-order changes. The latest ten edits I have made don't have much to do with it, as they are superfluous modifications). I would like to rewrite the page, but I'm not able to make such large changes. JackkBrown (talk) 02:00, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
JackkBrown, if you are not interested in working on the article, then just move on and forget about it. Cullen328 (talk) 02:04, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Copyvio or not?

The BBC published the full list of the British Film Institute's 100 best British films. Does this mean I can add the 67 missing films to supplement the seemingly arbitrary cutoff at 33 in BFI Top 100 British films, or should I reduce the 33 down to possibly the top ten? Clarityfiend (talk) 03:27, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm working on an article in my sandbox, User:Jaguarnik/Hernando Alonso, and I would like to know how to format a birthdate that would be "before x date" e.g. (born before 1480 - died 17 October 1528). Jaguarnik (talk) 03:43, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Jaguarnik, "born before 1480 – died 17 October 1528" looks good to me. If somebody thinks of an alternative that's somehow better, they're free to alter what you wrote. -- Hoary (talk) 04:04, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    @Jaguarnik: MOS:APPROXDATE indicates you should use "(before 1480 – 17 October 1528)". GoingBatty (talk) 04:37, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both! Jaguarnik (talk) 05:52, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Picture

i need to add pictures with my articles but i can't. Please reply as soon as you can. I need advice ASAP Miley (talk) 11:41, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What's the urgency? Wikipedia has no deadlines. New accounts cannot directly upload images to Wikipedia itself. If the copyright of the image is compatible with Wikipedia's, allowing for reuse for any purpose with attribution, you may upload it to Commons. (note that the vast majority of images found on the internet are not suitable as such). If the image has a more restrictive copyright, please visit Files for Upload. 331dot (talk) 11:45, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Divalicio It isn't clear whether you mean that you have already identified a suitable picture on Wikimedia Commons and need advice about how to incorporate it into an article. Instructions for doing that are at Help:Pictures. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:14, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Site with Multiple fake links to ads...Who do I contact

There is a site, Space Nursing Society,

where I see I am the 2nd person correcting links that go to an ad. Even thought the site it titled Space Nursing, it redirects to an ad. Who do I report this to? Starlighsky (talk) 12:40, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Starlighsky I made your link a standard internal link, we don't need the whole url. If the website at issue is ad supported, that's fine, unless I'm not understanding you. 331dot (talk) 12:44, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure what you are referring to. The Space Nursing Association no longer has a website. A version of it is redirecting traffic to what appears to be a restaurant. It adds a cookie that starts with the letter 'z', making it more difficult for people to spot on their computers.
Is there a way I can contact cybersecurity here? Starlighsky (talk) 12:49, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Starlighsky There is no "cybersecurity" department here; just volunteer editors. If the link is no longer working properly, it should be removed. I would do so but I shortly will be unavailable. 331dot (talk) 12:51, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I removed both suspicious links before I mentioned this issue.
I recall that there is place to report cybersecurity issues,
    but I can't seem to locate it. Starlighsky (talk) 13:09, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Now that the link has been removed, there is no further issue- but perhaps you are referring to Wikipedia:WikiProject Spam? 331dot (talk) 13:12, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am the 2nd person in the article's history to report the link issue.
It appears to be an issue of repairs being undone.
    I could be wrong.
Either way, here is history and two different people correcting faulty links:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Space_Nursing_Society&action=history Starlighsky (talk) 13:17, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It seems that the society has abandoned two different websites and the web host has reused the domains for advertising. Therefore the article has needed updating twice, but no repairs have been undone. TSventon (talk) 13:29, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Ok, thanks Starlighsky (talk) 16:13, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Repeated Vandalization of Multiple Railway Related Wiki Articles

I have noticed some vandalism at China Railways SY. There appears to be someone who keeps repeatedly editing the page to include erroneous information. Namely they keep adding references to the builders being Ford Motor Company and/or "British Rail Vehicle" with them removing the hyperlinks to the article about the actual builder, Tangshan Railway Vehicle CRRC Tangshan as well as changing the date range in which the locomotive was built.

I haven't looked further into what else they may have been adding, but it appears this has been ongoing for a while, with most of their edits being tagged with some variation of "Shane's Work Train" or "Shane Bone" or other things along that manner, the meaning of which I do not know.

This appears to be the last version of the article that contained the correct builder and dates in which the locomotives were being built. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=China_Railways_SY&oldid=1169429259

Would an editor please assist me with fixing it? Thank you, 173.28.207.94 (talk) 20:17, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I looked into it more, it appears these edits span more than just the single page China Railways SY
There appears to be repeated, nonsensical edits from this Static IP on other railway related pages that also have a similar tag of "Shane Bone's Work Train", though all others have been reverted at this time.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/37.205.60.165
They also appear to be using a mobile device with a dynamic IP that changes in between their edits, making it hard to see if there are any more instances of this on other pages, though these edits are still tagged with "Shane Bone's Work Train" or a something similar. 173.28.207.94 (talk) 21:18, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As of 9/18/23, 5 AM UTC the vandalism seems to have been removed thanks to the work of @Phuzion after I brought up the issue at the Wikipedia IRC help channel.
I thank them greatly for their assistance.
Still, I would advise anyone who happens to read this to keep an eye out for any new edits made by the same vandal on other railroad equipment related pages, they seem to be a repeat offender. 173.28.207.94 (talk) 05:54, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fix the reference of 1995 in Greece

Could help me fix the reference of Greece in 1995 for adding as Adjutant of the Hellenic Navy? He served with the President of the Hellenic Republic Constantinos Stephanopoulos (1995–1999). 108.21.67.83 (talk) 00:46, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Done, the accessdate of September 24, 2023 was causing one of the error messages since it's only September 17, 2023. The other error message was because there was a blank line in the middle of the reference title. Cmr08 (talk) 01:25, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Edit war

Hello! Trying to avoid an edit war by not undoing recent revisions to two schools by the same user: [[4]] [[5]] that I previously undid. My original edits were removing unsourced content, and adding citations to the content I could find sources for.

I've noticed the other editors history is all the same and after googling their username I believe they may be conencted with the Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools Office which the school's they're editing may come under. I've asked about the username just now, but this justifies to me more that I'm right to undo their edit. However, I still know this would count as an edit war even if I feel I'm justified, so what is the best way to proceed from here? Thank you. -- NotCharizard 🗨 06:55, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Although this is pretty minor in comparison to other users listed in the page I’m about to mention, it may be suitable for this situation to be placed in WP:AN/I, as this seems like POV-pushing, especially considering the potential long-term link between the user and the article subject, as well as the consistency of reverts. — Mugtheboss (talk) 13:57, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This user has been making edits to similar articles as mentioned since 2019. — Mugtheboss (talk) 13:59, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The first thing is to try to talk to them. The user name and contributions history suggests undisclosed paid editing so I have posted a standard warning on their talk page. The user name also suggests a shared account, which is also not allowed, but I have left that till later. You posted on their talk page on 11 September and they seem to have replied as an IP, we have both posted today and hopefully they will reply in the next few days. Redundant redirect

There is an old redirect here that could probably be deleted (and by the same logic, perhaps the Catherine (White) Coffin article should be renamed "Catherine White Coffin"). [NB: I'd do this myself if I were 100% confident about not inadvertently breaking something.] Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 09:08, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    @Cl3phact0, I have moved the page to the parenthesis-free title. —Kusma (talk) 09:38, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Searching in titles - Am I missing something?

A few times recently, I’ve wanted to search for multiple words within titles of pages on Wikipedia — e.g., earlier today, I wanted to get a list of all the pages that include the words ‘lgbt’ and ‘activist’ (case-insensitivity) somewhere in their title.

Due to intitle: seemingly not supporting multiple parameters (or - if it does - me not knowing how to use it), I ended up doing this via a query on Quarry instead (quarry:query/76626), which worked fine (hopefully!) after a bit of tinkering.

However, it’s just left me wondering if I’m missing some really obvious easier way of doing searches like this!

    Best, user:A smart kittenmeow 11:17, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@A smart kitten You can combine intitle: searches as in this example The output is not precisely and "AND" between the two intitle searches: it finds either "lgbt" or "activist" in the title, with the other term occurring anywhere in the article. See H:INTITLE Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:40, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Michael D. Turnbull Thanks for that! If I wanted an exact ‘AND’ search, do you think using Quarry as I did would be my best bet? Thanks again, user:A smart kittenmeow 11:48, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm no expert on Quarry but you seem to be on the right lines. My personal approach would be to do the simpler intitle search, followed by a visual scan of the results, assuming the output wasn't too large. Although I've written SQL in the past, I haven't investigated it for Wikipedia queries. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:56, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
