The 2017–18 season is PAOK Football Club's 92st in existence and the club's 59th consecutive season in the top flight of Greek football. The team defended their Greek Football Cup title won in 2017, and also competed in UEFA Europa League

Season review

June

On 1 June, announced τhe punishments for the violent episodes of the 2016–17 Cup final. Seven rounds of behind Closed doors were set by Hellenic Football Federation in PAOK, for the violent episodes in 2016-17 Cup final against AEK.[1]

On 7 June, PAOK announced they will travel to Netherlands, Horst (02/07 until 16/07), as part of their pre-season schedule and play many friendlies matches.[2]

On 16 June, the club announced Aleksandar Stanojević would be the new PAOK FC coach.[3]

On 17 June, the club announced that they wili begin the first stage of their preseason on 22 June in PAOK Sports Center, Nea Mesimvria.[4]

On 19 June, the club announced the transfer (free transfer) of 27-year-old French defender Dorian Lévêque from Guingamp for the next three years.[5]

On 22 June, the club announced they will play four friendly games in Netherlands as part of their pre-season preparations. On 04/07 will face Tubize, on 09/07 will face Shakhtar Donetsk, on 12/07 will face VVV-Venlo, and finally on 15/07 will face the Ajax in Amsterdam.[6]

On 26 June, the club loaned Dimitris Chatziisaias to Greek club Atromitos.[7]

On 27 June, the club also loaned Dimitris Giannoulis to Atromitos.[8]

On 30 June, PAOK signed a three-year deal with online betting company "Stoiximan" as shirt sponsor.[9] The new €1.8m-a-year shirt deal is worth €5.4m over three years.[10]

July

On 2 July, the club announced the final schedule of friendly.[11]

On 3 July, the club loaned Stelios Kitsiou and Charis Charisis to Belgian club Sint-Truidense V.V..[12]

On 4 July, PAOK won their first pre-season match against Tubize with a 4–0 score in Swolgen.[13]

On 7 July, PAOK lost to K.A.A. Gent 2–0 in a friendly match.[14]

On 11 July, the club announced τhe return of Slovak winger Róbert Mak, with one-year loan from FC Zenit Saint Petersburg.[15] They also announced a free transfer of Greek Australian Terry Antonis to Dutch club VVV-Venlo. PAOK held 35% resale.[16]

On 12 July, the club announced the transfer of 26-year-old Argentinian goalkeeper Rodrigo Rey from Godoy Cruz on a three-year(+1) contract.[17] The same day, PAOK faced VVV-Venlo in a preparation match. PAOK won the match 1–0, with goal from Aleksandar Prijović.[18]

On 13 July, the Superleague schedule for the 2017–18 season was released, with PAOK playing Levadiakos in the opening fixture.[19][20]

On 15 July, PAOK gave his last friendly in the Netherlands. PAOK faced AFC Ajax in a preparation match and lost 4–2, in Sportpark De Toekomst.[21]

On 21 July, the club played a friendly match against Anorthosis in Toumba, where they won 2–0. The goals were scored by Djalma Campos and Aleksandar Prijović.[22]

On 27 July, PAOK drew 1–1 with Olimpik Donetsk on Europa league match at Valeriy Lobanovskyi, with Pedro Henrique scoring the first official goal of the season.[23]

On 28 July, the club announce the extension of Manolis Patralis’s contract until 2021, and loan him to Greek club Platanias.[24]

August

On 1 August, the club loaned Giorgos Kakko to Cypriot club Nea Salamina.[25]

On 3 August, PAOK won 2–0 against Olimpik Donetsk on Europa league match at Toumba, and qualified to play-off round.[26]

On 4 August, was held τhe draw for the play-off round, at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. PAOK will face Östersund, a Swedish club from Östersund. The first leg will be played on 17 August at Toumba Stadium, and the second leg will be played on 24 August 2017, at Jämtkraft Arena.[27]

On 7 August, the club announced a free transfer of 28-year-old Greek goalkeeper Alexandros Paschalakis on one-year(+1) contract.[28]

On 8 August, the club loaned Jairo to Moldovan club Sheriff Tiraspol.[29] PAOK drew 1–1 with PAS Giannina in a pre-season friendly game in Thessaloniki.[30]

On 9 August, PAOK lose 0–1 against PAS Lamia in a pre-season friendly. Tsoukalos scored the lone goal of the game in the 89th minute.[31]

On 11 August, the club announced Răzvan Lucescu would be the new PAOK FC coach.[32] The former coach, Aleksandar Stanojević remained in the club for just 56 days.[33] The draw for the first and second phase of the 2017–18 Greek Football Cup was also announced.[34] PAOK will play in the group stage with Levadiakos (on 19-21/9) at Toumba Stadium, with Apollon Pontou (on 24-26/10) at Kalamaria Stadium and with the winner of match AiginiakosVeria away.[35]

On 14 August, the club loaned Nikos Melissas to Greek club PAS Lamia.[36]

On 17 August, PAOK have taken an advantage in their tie against Östersunds FK, winning 3-1 in the Toumba Stadium, on Europa League play-off round.[37]

On 20 August, PAOK drew 0–0 with Levadiakos in the first round of 2017–18 Superleague.[38]

On 22 August, the club announced the free transfer of Stefanos Athanasiadis to Israeli club Maccabi Haifa. The former captain remained in the club for 20 years.[39]

On 24 August, the club announced the transfer of Omar El Kaddouri from Empoli FC.[40] Also the team lose 2-0 from Östersunds FK on Europa League play-off round, and didn't qualify to the group stage.[41]

On 27 August, PAOK won 3-1 against Kerkyra on Superleague match at Toumba stadium.[42]

On 31 August, the club announced the free transfer of Maurício from FC Zenit, for a three-year contract.[43] They also announced the transfer of Vieirinha from German club VfL Wolfsburg, for a three-year contract.[44]

September

On 1 September, the club announced the loan of Pedro Henrique to Azerbaijani club Qarabağ FK,[45] with option to buy €5M.[46] They also announced the loan of Peruvian defender Carlos Zambrano from Russian club FC Rubin Kazan, for one-year contract,[47] with option to buy.[48]

On 2 September, PAOK lost 4-2 to a friendly charity character in the city of Volos, from NFC Volos.[49]

On 11 September, PAOK drew 0–0 with Apollon Smyrni in the third round of 2017–18 Superleague.[50]

On 16 September, PAOK won 1-0 against Panetolikos on Superleague match at Toumba stadium.[51]

On 20 September, PAOK beat Levadiakos 2–1 in their first game of the 2017–18 Greek Cup. Pelkas scored on 41st minute, one minute after he miss a penalty. Shakhov scored the winning goal on 71st.[52]

On 24 September, PAOK defeated PAS Giannina 1–0 at the Toumba Stadium, with third goal of Prijović on 2017–18 Superleague.[53]

On 29 September, PAOK and Dimitris Pelkas negotiated a four-year contract extension until 30 June 2021.[54] They also negotiated a four-year contract extension until 30 June 2021, with Efthimis Koulouris.[55]
