Line 15 of the Shanghai Metro is a metro line in the city of Shanghai that opened on 23 January 2021.[1] The line begins at Template:SHM stations in Baoshan District at its northern end, and terminates at Template:SHM stations[2] in Minhang District at its southern end, via Template:SHM stations and Template:SHM stations. It will be 42.3 kilometres (26.3 mi) in length and have 30 stations.[3][4] Line 15 interchanges with lines 1, 2, 3, 7, 9, 11, 12, 13 and 14.[5] The line is the 4th Shanghai Metro line to be fully automated and driverless, after Line 10, Pujiang line and Line 18.

History

The line was originally scheduled to open by the end of 2020.[6] However, on 24 December 2020, Shanghai Metro officials announced that the opening would take place in 2021, prior to the start of the Chinese New Year on 12 February 2021. Additionally, Line 15's Template:SHM stations station will not open until later in the year, meaning an interchange to Line 9 will not be possible initially.

On January 19, 2021, there is a partial collapse in an under-construction entrance and exit 9 of the Zizhu Hi-tech Zone station. There were no casualties at the scene, no impact on the surrounding environment, and no impact on the opening of Line 15.

Controversy

On 28 December 2011, the northern terminus of the line was shifted from Template:SHM stations station to an independent station called Template:SHM stations, located near Line 7 between Qihua and Template:SHM stations but with no direct interchange to Line 7.[7] This has stirred controversy among residents over Line 15's already lack of convenient connections with other major subway lines such as Line 2 and Line 10.[8] Planners reconsidered and extended Line 15 north of Jinqiu Road to connect with Line 7 at Template:SHM stations.[9] In December 2019, the line was further revised to provide an interchange with Line 2 at Template:SHM stations station. However, there is still no interchange planned with Line 10, as the Line 15 Template:SHM stations station is located mid-way between Template:SHM stations and Template:SHM stations stations on Line 10.[10]
