Araihazar (Template:Lang-bn) is an Upazila of Narayanganj District in the Division of Dhaka, Bangladesh.[1]

Geography

Araihazar is located at 23°47′30″N 90°39′00″E / 23.7917°N 90.6500°E / 23.7917; 90.6500. It has 52963 households and total area 183.35 km2.

Demographics

As of the 2011 Bangladesh census, Araihazar has a population of 376550. Males constitute 51.75% of the population, and females 48.25%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 142883. Araihazar has an average literacy rate of 32% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate.[2]

Economy

Araihazar consists of both plain lands and Haor areas, not only self-sufficient in food and fish but also famous for powerloom, spinning mills, sizing mills & fabrics.

Administration

Araihazar Upazila is divided into Araihazar Municipality, Gopaldi Municipality, and ten union parishads: Bishnandi, Brahmmandi, Duptara, Fatepur, Highjadi, Kalapaharia, Kagkanda, Mahmudpur, Satgram, and Uchitpur.[3][4]

Communication

Araihazar is connected through Dhaka, Narayanganj,Madhobde, Narsingdi by road; Bancharampur upazila(Brahman Baria) by launch and ferry. Regional highway runs through Sonargaon, Rupganj, Madhabdi route is important for road communications in this region. Araihazar-Dhaka direct bus (BRTC Araihazar-Gulistan , Avilash Araihazar-Jatrabari) services & Araihazar-Narsingdi, Araihazar-Madhobde, Araihazar-Bhulta, Araihazar-Gopaldi, Bishnandi Ferry Ghat Three Wheeler (CNG) services are available.
