Belgium participated at the Eurovision Song Contest 2003 in Riga, Latvia. This was the first Walloon participation since the 2000 contest.

Before Eurovision

Internal selection

Walloon broadcaster RTBF internally selected Urban Trad to represent the country in the 2003 contest with the song "Sanomi", performed in an imaginary language for the first time in the contest's history.[1][2]

At Eurovision

On the night of the final Urban Trad performed 22nd in the running order, following Latvia and preceding Estonia. Urban Trad received 165 points, placing second and giving Belgium their best result since their win in 1986. This guaranteed Belgium automatic qualification to the final of the 2004 Contest.
