Alamosa East is a census-designated place (CDP) in Alamosa County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,458 at the 2010 census.[1]

Geography

Alamosa East is located at 37°28′32″N 105°51′13″W / 37.47556°N 105.85361°W / 37.47556; -105.85361 (37.475487, -105.853575).[2]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.6 square miles (9.3 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 1,528 people, 556 households, and 404 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 423.0 people per square mile (163.4/km²). There were 612 housing units at an average density of 169.4 per square mile (65.5/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 59.95% White, 0.46% African American, 2.68% Native American, 0.92% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 30.37% from other races, and 5.56% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 54.38% of the population.

There were 556 households out of which 38.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.5% were married couples living together, 10.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.2% were non-families. 21.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 3.23.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 30.1% under the age of 18, 10.3% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 21.1% from 45 to 64, and 8.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 102.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.5 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $27,176, and the median income for a family was $32,593. Males had a median income of $26,250 versus $18,462 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $10,948. About 19.7% of families and 24.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 32.0% of those under age 18 and 10.4% of those age 65 or over.
