Keegan Lee Akin (born April 1, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Akin attended Bullock Creek High School in Midland, Michigan and played college baseball at Western Michigan University.[1][2] He was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the second round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft.[3][4]

Akin made his professional debut with the Aberdeen IronBirds[5] and spent all of 2016 there, posting a 1.04 ERA in 26 innings. He spent 2017 with the Frederick Keys[6] where he pitched to a 7-8 record and 4.14 ERA in 21 games started.[7]


Rylan Bannon

Rylan Bannon (born April 22, 1996) is an American professional baseball third baseman in the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Bannon graduated from Joliet Catholic Academy and played college baseball at Xavier University.[8] In 2017, he was the Big East Conference Baseball Player of the Year.[9] He was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the eighth round of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft.[10] He signed and made his professional debut with the Ogden Raptors, batting .336/.425/.591 with ten home runs and 30 RBIs in 40 games. He began 2018 with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, where he hit .296 in 89 games with 20 homers and 61 RBIs and was eventually honored with the California League Most Valuable Player Award.[11]

On July 18, 2018, Bannon was traded to the Baltimore Orioles along with Breyvic Valera, Dean Kremer, Yusniel Díaz, and Zach Pop in exchange for Manny Machado.[12] He was assigned to the Bowie Baysox and finished the season there, batting .204 with two home runs and 11 RBIs in 32 games.[13]

Michael Thomas Baumann (born September 10, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Baumann attended Mahtomedi High School in Mahtomedi, Minnesota, and played for the school's baseball and American football teams.[14] The Minnesota Twins selected him in the 34th round of the 2014 MLB draft. He did not sign, instead enrolling at Jacksonville University to play college baseball for the Jacksonville Dolphins.[15] The Baltimore Orioles selected him in the third round of the 2017 MLB draft.[16] In 2018, Baumann began the season with the Delmarva Shorebirds of the Class A South Atlantic League.[17] He received a promotion in May to the Frederick Keys of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League.[18]

His older brother, Nick, also played baseball and football at Mahtomedi.[14]

Martin Cervenka

Martin Cervenka (born August 3, 1992) is an Czech professional baseball catcher for the Baltimore Orioles.

Cervenka trained at the European Baseball Academy at age 16. He signed with the Cleveland Indians in January 2009,[19][20] and participated in extended spring training in 2009 and 2010, while finishing high school.[19] He made his professional debut in 2011 in for the Arizona Indians of the Rookie-level Arizona League.[21] After the 2017 season, Cervenka became a free agent and signed with the San Francisco Giants.[19] He was selected by the Orioles in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft.[22][23]

Cervenka's father, Filip, and older brother, Marek, also play baseball. Cervenka has completed a bachelor's degree and is studying for his Master of Business Administration.[21]


Yusniel Díaz

Yusniel Efraín Díaz Hechavarria (born October 7, 1996) is a Cuban professional baseball outfielder in the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Díaz played for the Industriales of the Cuban National Series and hit .348/.448/.440 over 65 games as a rookie.[24] He was the favorite to win the Cuban National Series Rookie of the Year Award, but defected before the award was given out.[25]

Díaz signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in November 2015.[26] The Dodgers assigned him to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes of the Advanced Class-A California League to begin his professional career.[27] In 82 games for the Quakes in 2016, he hit .267 with eight homers and 54 RBI.[28] In 2017, he played in 83 games for the Quakes and 31 for the Double-A Tulsa Drillers and hit .292 with 11 homers and 52 RBI.[28] He was assigned to play in the Arizona Fall League and was chosen for the Fall Stars Game showcase.[29]

Diaz remained with Tulsa to begin 2018 and was selected to the "world" team at the All-Star Futures Game.[30]

On July 18, 2018, Diaz was traded to the Baltimore Orioles along with Breyvic Valera, Dean Kremer, Rylan Bannon, and Zach Pop in exchange for Manny Machado.[12] He was assigned to the Bowie Baysox and finished the year there. In 97 games between Tulsa and Bowie, he slashed .285/.392/.449 with 11 home runs and 45 RBIs.[31]


Drew Dosch

Drew Tyler Dosch (born June 24, 1992) is an American professional baseball third baseman in the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Dosch played college baseball at Youngstown State University from 2011 to 2013. During his career he played in 151 games and hit .325/.397/.447 with 11 home runs and 83 runs batted in (RBI). In his final collegiate game, he tore his ACL.[32] Despite the injury, Dosch was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the seventh round of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft.[33] After spending 2013 rehabbing the injury, he made his professional debut in 2014 with the Delmarva Shorebirds,[34] and spent the whole season there, finishing with a .314 batting average, five home runs, 50 RBIs, and a team record 157 hits.[35] Dosch started 2015 with the Frederick Keys[36][37] and was later promoted to the Bowie BaySox. In 123 total games between the two clubs, he slashed .256/.316/.338 with three home runs and 55 RBIs. In 2016, he played for Bowie where he batted .261 with nine home runs and 55 RBIs in 113 games, and in 2017, he began the season with Bowie, and after posting a .424 batting average in his first nine games, was promoted to the Norfolk Tides, where he finished the season, compiling a .276 batting average with eight home runs, 56 RBIs and a .763 OPS in 129 games.[38]

Michael Joseph Kelly (born September 6, 1992) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Kelly attended West Boca Raton Community High School in Boca Raton, Florida. The San Diego Padres selected Kelly in the first round, with the 48th overall selection, of the 2011 MLB draft.[39][40] He pitched for the Padres' organization through 2017, then became a free agent. The Orioles signed him to a major league contract after the 2017 season.[41] Kelly was designated for assignment on March 29, 2018. He cleared waivers and was outrighted to the Double-A Bowie Baysox.

Christopher Ulysses Lee (born August 17, 1992) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Lee was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 37th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft out of Thomas Richard Robinson High School in Tampa, Florida. He did not sign with the White Sox and attended Santa Fe Community College. He was then drafted by the Houston Astros in the fourth round of the 2011 MLB draft.[42][43] In May 2015, he was traded from the Astros to the Baltimore Orioles for two international signing bonus slots.[44] The Orioles added him to their 40-man roster after the season.[45] Lee was outrighted off of the 40-man roster on July 29, 2018.


Marcos Molina

Marcos Molina (born March 8, 1995) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher in the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Molina signed with the New York Mets as an international free agent in January 2012. He made his professional debut that season with the Dominican Summer League Mets and spent the whole season there, going 5-2 with a 3.58 ERA in 14 games (13 starts). In 2013, he pitched for the Gulf Coast Mets where he compiled a 4-3 record and 4.39 ERA in 53.1 innings pitched.

Pitching for the Brooklyn Cyclones in 2014,[46] Molina won the Mets Sterling Award after going 7–3 with a 1.77 earned run average (ERA) and 91 strikeouts in 12 starts.[47][48] He played 2015 with the St. Lucie Mets and Gulf Coast Mets, but pitched in only nine games due to injury and after the season underwent Tommy John Surgery.[49] He missed the 2016 season recovering from the surgery, but returned to pitch in the Arizona Fall League.[50]

The Mets added Molina to their 40-man roster after the 2016 season.[51] In 2017, he played for both St. Lucie and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, pitching to a 5-10 record, 3.21 ERA, and 1.13 WHIP in 18 games (17 starts) between the two teams.[52] MLB.com ranked him as New York's eighth ranked prospect going into the 2018 season.[53]

Pitching the majority of the 2018 season with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Molina struggled to 1-10 record with a 6.94 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in 16 starts before he was released from the organization on July 11, 2018. On August 2, Molina was suspended for the rest of the season after testing positive for the performance-enhancing substance Clostebol.[54] Despite his suspension, he signed a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles on August 6.[55]


Ryan Mountcastle

Ryan Lee Mountcastle (born February 18, 1997) is an American professional baseball shortstop and third baseman in the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Mountcastle attended Hagerty High School in Oviedo, Florida.[56] He was drafted by the Orioles in the first round of the 2015 MLB draft.[57] He signed with the Orioles and was assigned to the GCL Orioles to begin his professional career. After batting .313 with three home runs and 14 RBIs in 43 games in the GCL, he was promoted to the Aberdeen IronBirds, where batted .212 in ten games to finish the season. Mountcastle spent 2016 with the Delmarva Shorebirds where he posted a .281 average with ten home runs and 51 RBIs along with a .745 OPS in 115 games. In 2017, he spent time between the Frederick Keys and the Bowie BaySox, batting a combined .287 along with a career high 18 home runs and 62 RBIs in 127 games between both teams.[58]

MLB.com ranked Mountcastle as Baltimore's third best prospect going into the 2018 season.[59] He spent 2018 with Bowie, slashing .297/.341/.464 with 13 home runs and 59 RBIs in 102 games.[60]


Zach Pop

Zachery M. Pop (born September 20, 1996) is a Canadian professional baseball pitcher in the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Pop attended Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School in Brampton, Ontario.[61] He was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 23rd round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft, but did not sign and played college baseball at the University of Kentucky.

Pop was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the seventh round of the 2017 MLB Draft.[62] He signed and made his professional debut with the AZL Dodgers, pitching five scoreless innings. In 2018, he began the year with the Great Lakes Loons before being promoted to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.

On July 18, 2018, Pop was traded to the Baltimore Orioles along with Breyvic Valera, Dean Kremer, Yusniel Diaz, and Rylan Bannon in exchange for Manny Machado.[12] He was assigned to the Bowie Baysox and finished the season there. In 44 relief appearances between Great Lakes, Rancho Cucamonga, and Bowie, he compiled a 2-3 record with a 1.53 ERA.[63]

Jomar Michel Reyes Pimentel (born February 20, 1997) is a Dominican professional baseball third baseman in the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Reyes signed with the Baltimore Orioles as an international free agent in January 2014.[64][65] He made his professional debut that year with the Gulf Coast Orioles[66][67] and spent the whole season there, batting .285 with four home runs and 29 RBIs in 53 games. He spent 2015 with the Delmarva Shorebirds where he batted .278 with five home runs and 44 RBIs in 84 games, 2016 with the Frederick Keys where he compiled a .228 batting average with ten home runs and 51 RBIs in 126 games, and 2017 back with Frederick where he slashed .302/.333/.434 with four home runs and 21 RBIs in only 50 games due to missing the first three months of the season due to a wrist injury.[68]


Matt Wotherspoon

Matt Mark Wotherspoon (born October 6, 1991) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Wotherspoon graduated from Crestwood High School in Mountain Top, Pennsylvania. He attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he played college baseball for the Pittsburgh Panthers. The New York Yankees selected Wotherspoon in the 34th round of the 2014 MLB draft.

He signed and spent 2014 with the Staten Island Yankees[69] where he went 2-3 with a 1.97 ERA in 32 relief innings. In 2015, Wotherspoon pitched for the Charleston RiverDogs, the Tampa Yankees, and the Trenton Thunder[70] pitching to a 5-4 record and 4.05 ERA in 23 games (17 starts), and in 2016, he played for Trenton and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders,[71] compiling a 6-2 record, 2.50 ERA, and 1.11 WHIP in 36 games. He began 2017 with Trenton and was later promoted back to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The Yankees traded Wotherspoon to the Orioles on July 2, 2017, for international signing bonus money. The Orioles assigned him to the Norfolk Tides[72] and he finished the season there. In 67.2 relief innnings between Trenton, Scranton/Wilkes-Barr, and Norfolk, he was 6-2 with a 2.00 ERA and 79 strikeouts.[73]

After the 2015 season, Wotherspoon worked to complete his undergraduate degree at Wilkes University.[74]


Luis Ysla

Luis Alfredo Ysla (born April 27, 1992) is a Venezuelan professional baseball pitcher in the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Ysla signed with the San Francisco Giants as an international free agent in September 2012. He made his professional debut in 2013 with the AZL Giants and spent the whole season there, going 4-0 with a 2.65 ERA in 12 starts. He spent 2014 with the Augusta GreenJackets where he pitched to a 6-7 record and 2.45 ERA in 24 games (23 starts). He began 2015 with the San Jose Giants.

On August 31, 2015 the Giants traded Ysla to the Boston Red Sox for Alejandro De Aza.[75] Boston assigned him to the Salem Red Sox and he finished the season there. In 35 games, nine of those being starts, he was 3-6 with a 5.85 ERA. In 2016, he pitched for the Portland Sea Dogs where he compiled a 2-5 record and 4.07 ERA in 39 relief appearances. He also pitched in one game for the Pawtucket Red Sox at the end of the season. The Red Sox added Ysla to their 40-man roster after the season.[76] He began 2017 back with Portland.

On July 29, 2017, Ysla was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers for cash considerations.[77] The Dodgers assigned him to the Tulsa Drillers. In 58 relief innings pitched between Portland and Tulsa, he was 1-5 with a 5.28 ERA.[78] The Dodgers designated him for assignment on September 1.[79]

Ysla was traded to the Baltimore Orioles on April 2, 2018, in exchange for Jesús Liranzo.[80] He began 2018 with the Bowie Baysox.

Bruce Anthony Zimmermann (born February 9, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Zimmermann graduated from Loyola Blakefield in 2013.[81] Undrafted out of high school in the 2013 MLB draft, he enrolled at Towson University to play college baseball before transferring to the University of Mount Olive after his sophomore year. In 2017, as a senior at Mount Olive, he was 9-2 with a 3.18 ERA in 15 starts, striking out 129 batters in 99 innings.[82] After his senior year, he was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the fifth round of the 2017 MLB draft.[83] He signed for $10,000,[84] and was assigned to the Danville Braves, where he was 0-1 with a 3.09 ERA in 11 starts.[85] He began 2018 with the Rome Braves before being promoted to the Mississippi Braves in June.[86]

On July 31, 2018, Zimmermann, Jean Carlos Encarnacion, Brett Cumberland, Evan Phillips and international signing money were traded to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for Kevin Gausman and Darren O'Day.[87] He was assigned to the Bowie Baysox and finished the season there. In 25 starts between Rome, Mississippi, and Bowie, he compiled an 11-7 record with a 3.21 ERA.[88]
