Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are a Belgian DJ and record producer duo composed of brothers Dimitri Thivaios and Michael Thivaios. They are ranked first on DJ Mag's 2015 Top 100 DJs list.[1][2]

Background[edit]

Dimitri and Michael Thivaios are Greece-born[3] brothers who grew up in the Flemish town of Willebroek. They began to make their first steps as DJ's reportedly at a young age.[4] Very quickly, they made several appearances in small clubs and were resident BeatFM radio DJs. Dimitri then left Flanders in 1999 and began touring Europe. He lived in Mallorca and then in Halkidiki, Greece before moving to Ibiza in 2003, where he was a resident in major clubs such as Privilege and Space.[5]

After living in Mallorca and on the Canary Islands, he settled in Zante, Greece where he was a resident of Amnesia and The End in 2006. In autumn 2006, Dimitri returned to Belgium to work with his brother Mike, and produced their first release "La Cocaina (Eivissa 2007)". His remix of "Work That Body", 2008 caught the attention of Axwell, who entrusted them with a remix of "Rotterdam City of Love" by Abel Ramos for his label Axtone.

History[edit]

2010–14[edit]

They appeared as Tomorrowland Hosts for the first time and were allowed to make the anthem of the festival, this was "Tomorrow (Give in to the Night)" with Dada Life and Tara McDonald, which was released by the label of the duo, Smash The House. Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike returned to make the anthem, this time with Afrojack and NERVO.[6] The single was called "The Way We See the World". "Tomorrow Changed Today" was the anthem for the 2012 edition of the festival. For the 2013 edition of Tomorrowland, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike made the anthem "Chattahoochee". This single, released by Smash The House / Spinnin' Records, arrived at number one in Beatport in less than 3 days. In 2014, their single 'Tremor' - a collaboration with Martin Garrix saw busting Charts and became a huge sensation at Tomorrowland, Ultra Music Festival.

2015[edit]

2015 saw the duo's release of their most highly anticipated track "The Hum" produced with Ummet Ozcan which was an instant hit and topped the Beatport Charts.

In August 2015 the duo released a track with the Artist Ne-Yo called "Higher Place" - a Deep House Genre track which saw great success. It became the most Shazammed track of Tomorrowland 2015, as well as spending 5 weeks at the crowning #1 spot of the Belgian charts. It also hit #1 on the Billboard Dance chart. On 16 October 2015, DJ Mag announced Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike as the New No.1 DJ, dethroning Hardwell after being No.1 DJ for 2 consecutive years. They also became the 1st DJ Duo to become No.1 DJ's.

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike annually organise their 'Bringing the Madness' live Concert releasing some of their Unreleased ID's and records of their label Smash The House. It's organised annually at Sportpaleis Arena, Antwerp, Belgium. The brothers backed by the makers of Tomorrowland deliver an audio and visual feast in front of 60,000 illuminated and buzzing music lovers throughout the Show. The 2015 'Bringing The Madness 3.0' Concert saw an enormous sellout of 40,000 tickets in under 40 minutes – a feat previously seen only from the likes of iconic artists U2, Madonna, Coldplay and Beyoncé – encouraging the brothers to add an additional 3rd date to the run of shows and increase the total ticket volume for the opening weekend to an eye-popping 60,000 capacity.
