Template:Infobox City Japan Eniwa (恵庭市, Eniwa-shi) is a city located in Ishikari, Hokkaidō, Japan.

As of 2008, the city has an estimated population of 68,533 and the density of 232 persons per km². The total area is 294.87 km².

The city was founded on November 1, 1970.

Eniwa is accessed by an expressway with an interchange in the west and route 36 runs through Eniwa and route 453.

History

  • 1897 Izari and Shimamatsu Village split off of Chitose Village
  • 1906 Izari Village and Shimamatsu Village merge to form Second class municipality Eniwa Village
  • 1923 Eniwa becomes a First Class Municipality
  • 1951 Eniwa Village becomes Eniwa Town
  • November 1, 1970 Eniwa Town becomes Eniwa City

Climate

Even though Eniwa is located just 20km away from central Sapporo, Winter is very severe and cold because of far from both ocean. The temperature in winter often drops below -20°C. On the other hand, Summer is generally cooler than Sapporo. The hottest and coldest temperatures, respectively, ever recorded are 34.3°C and -26.9°C.
