Harrow College is the largest college in the London Borough of Harrow.[1] It opened in 1999 following a merger of two former local colleges, Greenhill College (located in the centre of Harrow Town) and Weald College neighbouring town Wealdstone.
More than 2,000 full-time and 7,000 part-time learners join Harrow College for sixth form and adult courses. Harrow College is also an associate college of Westminster University[2] and Middlesex University.[3]
History and location
Teaching takes place at the Harrow-on-the-Hill campus on Lowlands Road and at the Harrow Weald campus in Brookshill, Harrow Weald as well as two smaller, dedicated Construction-focused units at Whitefriars Centre and Harrow Skills Centre. The College also teaches in community locations around the London Borough of Harrow.
College standards
In its most recent inspection, Ofsted rated the college as 'Good' for overall effectiveness.[4] It has been awarded a Centre of Excellence for the Hearing Impaired, which is the only centre of its kind in North West London. The college is also a member of the Westminster Centre of Excellence in Teacher Training (CETT).[citation needed]
The college was successfully validated against the Matrix standard for its information, advice and guidance services. It holds the Investors in People quality standard and the Pre School Learning Alliance kite mark.[citation needed]
Curriculum
Harrow College provides academic, vocational and occupational courses in its sixth form centre for young people aged 14 to 19 years and a range of vocational, work related, professional and non-professional programmes for adult learners. The college is highly regarded for its ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) and EFL (English as a Foreign Language) courses. The EFL programmes are accredited by the British Council and English UK. The Learning Links programme has set a standard in the community[citation needed] for providing courses for students with learning disabilities and difficulties.
