Milpitas is a future Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station serving Milpitas, California, scheduled to open in March–September 2019.[1] The station is located near the intersection of Capitol Avenue, Great Mall Parkway, and Montague Expressway. A pedestrian bridge will connect to the elevated Montague light rail station, which will replace the Great Mall Main Transit Center.[3]

History

The station and the $2.3-billion Silicon Valley BART extension broke ground in 2012.[4] Completion had been expected in 2016,[5][6] but the opening was pushed back repeatedly. As of 2018, the project has been delayed three years.

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) received a $900 million federal grant for the $2.3-billion Silicon Valley extension in 2012.[7] Buses from Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and AC Transit will serve the station.

The station occupies 27 acres (11 ha) and is co-located with the Montague Light Rail station, near the North San Jose/Milpitas high-tech job hub and the Great Mall of the Bay Area. The concourse will be at-grade, with two underground side platforms.

The six-story[8][9] 1,200 space parking garage is owned and operated by VTA; thus parking is open to light rail and bus patrons in addition to BART riders.
