This dog is not for for the faint of heart. Beaucerons are very intelligent and protective. Similar to the Belgian Malinois, this dog has aggressive tendencies and is not for the "average" dog owner. They need to be socialized very early with both people and other animals. Beaucerons are great dogs but do your homework (research) before you even consider this breed. ok —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.22.37.31 (talk) 19:57, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Are you trying to say that the article is portraying the dog in the wrong light? have you made the appropriate edits to this article to reflect that? Killemall22 (talk) 14:53, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I totally disagree with the comment from 7 April 2008 : Beaucerons do NOT have inherent agressive tendencies (neither do Mallinois, by the way). Best proof of that is in France (I am French and proud owner of a very nice Beauceron, as a source), they are amongst the very few breeds that are allowed to be taught "attack" (or rather attack and letting go orders - I do not know the precize terms to translate that) - over here, only dogs that are calm enough are allowed such learnings. Dog breeds having agressive tendencies would never be allowed attending such kind of teachings (and as my Cane Corso and my Beauceron are, it is quite easy to guess they are perfectly calm and sane breeds, and especially for this job that requires a lot of self-control as well for the dog as for the owner).

Sure, they are probably not what toy pet owners search for : they are powerful, strong willed, and will test your ability as a pack leader. Yes : sure (what is wrong with that?). They also are amongst the longest to mature sheppards (which is rightfully precized in the article), which is noticeably explained by the fact they're amongst the biggest of the kind, and which yelds quite a running joke amongst dog owners that they're a bit slow (slow to mature, yes, undoubtfuly - slow to learn, not particularly). Now, they are nothing near Fila Brasileiros or such breeds, whose agressivity should really not be encouraged or provoked, as it's already a quite inherent trait. If your Beauceron has agressive behaviours, well, the problem more than probably lies with bad owner behaviour than within the dog. A Beauceron owner with an agressive dog would most certainly have an agressive dog, whatever the breed. 86.220.186.95 (talk) 08:21, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My sister and brother-in-law got a Beauceron as a puppy and he turned out to be a great dog. He was sweet, a good guard dog and a willing participant in any mischief that I was up to at my sister's house. (She once accused me of bribing him with a half-pint of Haagen-Dazs. I assure you it was only a quarter pint!) He was not physically aggressive if it was not required but his barking could wake the dead. He did have a few funny habits. He would "shepard" us if we were talking outside in a group or if we were in two different groups, slowly bumping us closer together with orbit after orbit around the group. After a few minutes we would find ourselves in each others personal space and not knowing how we all got there. He also liked to tease his "Uncle Kit" during holidays waiting for me to stand there with my plate full and my other hand with a wine glass before he would move in on me and very gently nip at my leg. The more he would do this, the more I would laugh and that would just encourage him to do it more. Of course my sister would ignore my desperate calls for help and I would continue to be "shepherded" by this crazy dog. He passed away a few years ago. We still miss him. If you get a Beauceron, train him early and well as this article implies. He or she will be a great dog and a protector of you and your family. ~ Kit Hill, Ed.D., LMFT — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.109.221.135 (talk) 07:17, 29 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Beauceron/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

All sections need expanding. Needs references. Temperament section must be fixed to remove the use of second-person pronouns (you), the generally informal tone (contractions such as "isn't" are never to be used on Wiki), and the gender-specific pronouns (he, his) and replace with gender-neutral pronouns (it, its, they, theirs). --Pharaoh Hound (talk) 19:31, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
