Ethnicity of the Markle (Merckel) family

[edit]

The Markle (Merckel) family originates in an Alsatian town very near the current French–German border, but as is evident from the names of her Markle ancestors, and also from the history of the town (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lampertsloch ) they clearly weren't ethnically French. Lampertsloch has been part of various small principalities, and later it has been part of France and Germany at different times. It's now part of France, but it would be anachronistic to describe someone who left the town in the 18th century, apparently at a time it was part of the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt, as "French." --Tataral (talk) 18:58, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Samantha's birth name

[edit]

There should probably be mention of Samantha Markle's birth name (which was actually Yvonne Markle). SecretName101 (talk) 02:16, 18 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Immediate family removed?

[edit]

Was there a reason that the immediate family section was removed? cookie monster 755 06:52, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Late, but she is still a member of the royal family due to her marriage to Prince Harry 2601:645:8900:9490:3111:8C7B:93D4:8514 (talk) 05:47, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Is this page even necessary?

[edit]

These topics are covered on the family’s respective pages. 2601:249:1000:A8D0:48A1:D3D:EE41:F671 (talk) 16:10, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect usage of arms.

[edit]

There is no such thing as a family coat of arms, arms are granted to an individual. This is a commonly misunderstood myth due to factoid / misinformation websites often selling alleged coats of arms of 'your family' on the internet. I have no doubt someone in the Merckel family MAY have been granted arms at some point, but the family may not bear it, nor may Meghan Markle or her immediate family. This boilerplate on the right should be taken down immediately as it is patently false information. 2001:8003:37B8:D900:501C:D10A:2F3A:D1D1 (talk) 11:27, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. There are no coat of arms associated with Meghan Markle other than those that may be attributed to her husband, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, the Earl of Dumbarton and Baron of Kilkeel. This is just put there to try and lend some sense of either "nobility" or "authenticity" to her last name. Utter rubbish and doesn't belong on Wikipedia. This is not a fan page is it?
