Request for info

[edit]

I love wolves, especially Italian ones, but there isn't any information on the net that decently describes Italian wolves and their habits! --Regeane Silverwolf

I'm trying to do a speech on Italian wolves, but there is no good info. --Gustave Wolf

The tag says info may be found on this page. This page says it needs info. It does not compute. When finished I'm taking out the tag. But, there is too info on the Internet. I think your student expectation that someone else will do the work for you is not appropriate to an educational context. No pain no gain. Bite the bullet, face up to what actually can be done, but it can't be done if you won't do it.Dave (talk) 00:32, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Should be merged

[edit]

According to MSW3, the most up to date mammal taxonomy source, canis lupus communis is now considered synonymous to canis lupus lupus, the Eurasian Wolf: http://www.bucknell.edu/msw3/browse.asp?id=14000739 Mariomassone (talk) 16:41, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, as was shown in some of the links in the Italian Wolf article, there are researchers who consider the Italian Wolf a distinct subspecies just like Iberian Wolf. I understand that Wikipedia follows MSW, but there should be some mention about the Italian Wolf population. If you do not want an article outright, how about creating a separate section for the Italian population in the Eurasian Wolf article ? 72.39.246.41 (talk) 23:17, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It has already been done, on the Eurasian wolf's taxonomy section.Mariomassone (talk) 11:17, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Italian wolf

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Italian wolf's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Importance

[edit]

Article raised to Mid-level importance - this wolf haplotype is directly related to the extinct Pleistocene wolves of Europe.

Haplogroup number uncertainty

[edit]

The end of article paragraph 8, or, the end of paragraph 2 under the subheading "Lineage" has a sentence that reads as follows: "The Italian wolf is the only remaining grey wolf subspecies included in this ancient haplogroup." One can guess that the editor is referring to haplogroup 2 here, but the way the paragraph is currently written, one cannot arrive at that conclusion with certainty. Could the original editor please clarify? Thanks. 2601:543:4200:73E0:89CE:BA1E:81C8:FEAA (talk) 14:33, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
