Requested move 23 February 2015

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: moved to Jack Zink. Firstly, there is no guideline (as far as I know) to pre-emptively disambiguate pages. As there is no article on other Jack or John Zinks, there is no need to add a disambiguator. Secondly, WP:NICKNAME implies that the nickname rather than the full name should be used when commoner, i.e. use Bill Clinton rather than William Jefferson Clinton [or Jack Zink instead of John Smith Zink]. John Smith "Jack" ZinkJohn Zink – Or Jack Zink. Per WP:COMMONNAME, either one should be more commonly used than the other, but both are more common than the current title. --Relisted. • Objection to proposed move This move should not be made because the article's subject was the son of John Steele Zink, who was also a notable person. It is arguable which was more notable. The father founded the renowned John Zink Company, which had a world-wide reputation in the mid 1940s as a leading manufacturer of combustion equipment. He left a sizable fortune to the John Steele Zink Foundation. He also founded the Zink family ranch, which the son later turned into a site for his philanthropic activities. The father may deserve a Wikipedia page in his own right, and I am now collecting information about him. I think renaming the present article as proposed will lead to confusion in the future because of the similarity of names. Bruin2 (talk) 17:26, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment whatever happens John Smith Zink and Jack Zink should be created as a redirect to here if it isn't moved there. ; if John Steele Zink receives an article then John Zink should point to Zink (disambiguation), if he doesn't then it should point here. -- 70.51.200.101 (talk) 06:47, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to John Smith Zink to avoid the WP:NICKNAME guideline violation ("avoid (for example) adding a nickname, or a contracted version of the original first name(s) in quotes between first and last name. For example: Bill Clinton, not William "Bill" Clinton."). "John Smith Zink" seems adequately distinct from "John Steele Zink". —BarrelProof (talk) 22:08, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to John Smith Zink per the above two comments, especially the quotation from NICKNAME which directly addresses this page. Relentlessly (talk) 08:06, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
