Naming
[edit]Old Shakespeare wasn't even her real nickname, was "Shakespeare", see the Ripper page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.165.158.7 (talk • contribs)
- While that may be true in newpaper accounts, the primary sources used in creating the article refer to her as Old Shakespeare. MadMax 01:48, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
- Your "primary" sources are incorrect (and certainly don;t count as primary sources, as they are using third hand information instead of original documents). And her name was Carrie Brown, so the article was moved to reflect that. Plus I fixed some of the more outrageous errors and provided some much better sources. DreamGuy 04:40, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- By primary sources, I am refering to books I have direct access to (listed under references) as opposed to references from online and other sources from which I am aware of but have not read or have access to (listed under further reading). In writing the article, those two specific books were the only ones available on the subject (incidentally only Carl Sifakis was using third hand information while Asbury himself used primary sources in the form of police journals, news accounts, etc. and is considered a secondary source, technically speaking). Both state Carrie Brown was one of many aliases she had used, however I would certainly conceed news reports innaccuratly claimed her name as Old Shakespere yet she has been refered to as "Old Shakespeare" in news reports and elsewhere.
- I do believe it was inappropriate to simply blank and redirect the article to Jack the Ripper on the basis of this, especially in making such a drastic change without discussing it on the talk page as 216.165.158.7 did, especially when a simple page move would have been a more reasonable option. Obituary
[edit]Is there an obituary report available which might be used to determine a possible year of birth ? I'm assuming there must have been some mention of how old she might be. MadMax 07:57, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Carrie Brown (murder victim) → Murder of Carrie Brown – WP:DEATHS. The article is mostly about her murder and those related to it. Theparties (talk) 05:40, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
