Some statements from the article
[edit]"Rafael van der Vaart is a convert to Hinduism a devotee of ISKCON"
Couldn't find anything on the internet on this. Could a Van der Vaart fan confirm this please? Looks like sneaky vandalism to me at the moment.
"[...]he has been compared to Ajax legends Dennis Bergkamp and Johan Cruyff."
Compared by whom? By his mother? He's Seedorf minus the attitude problems at best in my opinion. Could someone source this as well please
"He's Seedorf minus the attitude problems at best in my opinion.", implying your opinion matters. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.77.107.194 (talk) 23:08, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
"The common consensus is that he produces his best football as a left-sided midfield player."
Playmaker, really. Either way, this could use a source too I think. Igorrr 20:31, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
He is a Gitano footballer. That needs to be said.

POV
[edit]A lot of the information in the "International career" section is point of view and original research and hasn't got any references. This will have to be edited to include the facts otherwise it'll be removed. --Jimbo[online] 18:41, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Sinti
[edit]I heard that his paternal ancestry is Sinti. Is it true? --Error (talk) 19:20, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
I think it has been confirmed, yes
No, as described in the article the paternal ancestry is yeniche not Sinti. --88.68.221.246 (talk) 01:09, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- I'm sure this is true but I can't find a decent source. It makes sense because he spent the first 17 years of his life in a caravan park but there's no source that actually says he's Yeniche. Spiderone (talk) 17:11, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- 2022 and still no proof for any ethnicity rather than Dutch or Spanish. "Gypsy" is a very vague word in English which means the Roma group originating from India, any number of native European nomadic people like Irish Travellers and Yenish, or even - and this seems the most likely in this case - "alternative lifestyles" who for whatever reason want to live their whole lives in caravans. It's hardly unheard of. While sources make a fuss of his unusual childhood, none put ethnicity in the centre as they do with Quaresma or JA Reyes. 2A00:23C5:E187:5F00:D5C0:730B:77AB:250C (talk) 22:52, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
Picture?
[edit]Why doesn't he get a new picture? One with the Real Madrid, I mean this one is terrible and barely recent. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bulkroosh (talk • contribs) 10:31, 19 August 2008 (UTC) He should get a picture while he will be playing for tottenham. The current picture sucks!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Antonioudim (talk • contribs) 08:09, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Please remove vandalism
[edit]{{Editsemiprotected}}
The Biography section of the article states: "In August 2006, Rafael van der Vaart took part in a competition to determine which footballer had the most hilarious name, coming in third place behind Danny Shittu and Rod Fanni respectively. [citation needed]"
This is obvious vandalism, or at the very least a nonsensical, non-notable and trivial "competition". Please remove this. 94.212.31.237 (talk) 09:56, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
Done Welcome and thanks for pointing this out. The best spin I could think of is that there was some mock competition for charity which he took part in as a good sport, but nothing like that should ever appear in a biography with a {{fact}} tag. Regards, Celestra (talk) 14:57, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
Height
[edit]His height is 1.75m the source even states this however it still shows him as 1.77m which is not correct so I changed his height to the height given on the official Real Madrid website.--Xorp22 (talk) 04:16, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
Origins

Van der Vaart was born in Heemskerk to a Spanish mother Lolita (from Chiclana de la Frontera, Cádiz) of Romani heritage[2] and a Dutch father named Ramon.
In the original article the term Spaniard gets changed to Spanish and does not make sense. The second version above lets you use the [[ ]] link in a way that makes sense if anyone wants to change to it 19:27, 20 December 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.40.208.160 (talk)
- Depends on the term, ¿is "Spaniard" gender neutral"s? as it's his mother, then it should be Spanish, otherwise.

[edit]spurs
he is a spurs player now. deal done. we can change it to this now. premier league has confirmed it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stonesandoil (talk • contribs) 10:12, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- That is what you claimed about Sulley Muntari], Let's just wait a few hours until someone releases an official statement one way or the other.--ClubOranjeT 11:15, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Is source 28 not a bit ambiguous? He could easily be referring to the transfer fee. 11 million euros is close-ish to the transfer fee being reported. I would be pretty shocked if he is actually on 44,000 pounds a week. At real he would definetly been on more than that surely and he would hardly take a massive paycut to go to spurs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.28.64.113 (talk) 17:23, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Detail in Tottenham section
[edit]I'm slightly concerned that we seem to have descriptions of van der Vaart's involvement in every match he's played for Spurs so far in the Tottenham Hotspur section of the article. While this isn't that much of a problem yet, it will be pretty soon. I think we need to start being a bit more selective about what we include. Cordless Larry (talk) 19:48, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
- I tottally agree! Personally I would remove everything after the Wolves game and tighten up each of the first three sentences. Shall we be BOLD then? Tmol42 (talk) 20:25, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
