The United States Senate elections of 1906 and 1907 were elections which had the Republican Party gain three seats in the United States Senate , expanding their majority to almost twice that of the opposing Democratic Party .
As these elections were prior to ratification of the seventeenth amendment , Senators were chosen by State legislatures .
