Introduction

[edit]

Lettingweb is a Scottish property portal and letting agent member organisation that has been an online marketplace for Scottish lets since 1999. With over 400 members, Lettingweb is the largest member organisation for letting agents in Scotland, and uses this position to act on behalf of and for all of its members. This role has seen the production of extra products such as Lettingref, an online referencing solution, and Lettinglegal, a legal forum for the sharing of legal questions and issues. The core product is a website that has listings for 1000s of properties for rent across Scotland and Northern England, and a tool that puts any landlord letting a property in contact with a local letting agent.

Company overview and history

[edit]

Lettingweb’s mantra is to make letting better, to that end they provide support to key industry bodies, have a foundation for charitable causes, and develop the website to help tenants as well as letting agents. In "1999", Lettingweb’s first site was launched by Alex Watts, who is still the chairman of the company today, as a solution to the problems that letting agents had in getting advertising in newspapers. Lettingweb began producing websites for letting agents in 2007, a service that continues to this day as Lettingdigital. At the beginning of 2009, Lettingweb launched an online tenant referencing solution for both letting agents and landlords called Lettingref – the first time they had addressed both parties. In January 2010, Lettingweb launched the first UK lettings-only iPhone application, with an in- built GPS to find nearby property. The app was shortlisted by the Sunday Times as one of the world’s top 500 Apps In 2011, Steven Tigar was appointed the new Managing Director of Lettingweb Ltd. In August 2012, Lettingweb launched a brand new website for tenants, landlords and agents in the United Kingdom. In October of that year Lettingweb partnered up with the newly merged Zoopla Property Group (a result of the joining of forces between Zoopla and Digital Property Group) to become the supplier of Scottish rental properties for Zoopla’s entire network. Lettingweb had been partnered with PropertyFinder (as part of the REA Group) up until Zoopla acquired the site in 2009. In December 2012, Lettingweb launched Lettinglegal in conjunction with Lindsays Solicitors. The service provides a free forum and legal support hub for letting agents who are members of Lettingweb.
