How to do Footnotes[edit]

Hi there! I note your changes to Providence, Rhode Island. When doing footnotes, you shouldn't just say [6]. Instead. do this:

  • In the body of the text, say {{ref|xxx}} where xxx is a UNIQUE identifer.
  • In the footnotes, say {{note|xxx}}} where xxx is the same UNIQUE identifer you used in the text. Wikipedia will automatically give each a number for you, and the number may change when notes are added or removed. So... you should not use your own numbers. Just give it a short name unique from all the other notes in the page.
Ah, I see you figured it out. Awesome :) -- Ch'marr 18:41, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed your edits on the Dinosaur article. I took the liberty of adding back the {{fact}} tag and the language link I think you removed by accident (although I think the status the tag is controvesial, see the talk page). If removing them was intentional, feel free to remove them again. Incidentally, you may find it helpful to creat an account--it is easy and requires no personal information-- see WP:REG for more details and benefits. Some suggestions[edit]

  • You don' seem to be using the edit summary. Please consider doing so, per Help:Edit summary - it really helps other editors.
  • When you add content, such as your recent additions of in 2006 he voted aganist renewal of the Voting Right Act., adding the source of your information is highly recommended, because it makes it much more likely that your content will "stick". (Adding a source requires only putting brackets around the URL, of course, unless the article uses references/footnotes, in which case it it just a bit more time-consuming.) There are editors who remove unsourced material, particularly that bordering on negative. Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Remove unsourced or poorly sourced negative material
  • Within limits, more specific is better than less specific. So, "In July (or whenever) 2006, he voted against renewal of the Voting Rights Act." would probably be better. John Broughton 06:35, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked[edit]

Wikipedia is not a soapbox to run political campaigns and accuse plitical opponents of being 'racist'. If the assertion that people votes in a certain way is correct, you may include that information if you can provide an authoritiative citation.

You have been temporarily blocked from editing for vandalism of Wikipedia. Please note that page blanking, addition of random text or spam, deliberate misinformation, privacy violations, and other deliberate attempts to disrupt Wikipedia are considered vandalism. If you wish to make useful contributions, you may come back after the block expires. --Doc 23:01, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In a recent edit, you changed one or more words from one international variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For subjects exclusively related to Britain (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to other English-speaking countries, such as Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, use the appropriate variety of English used there. If it is an international topic, use the same form of English the original author used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to the other, even if you don't normally use the version the article is written in. Respect other people's versions of English. They in turn should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. If you have any queries about all this, you can ask me on my talk page or you can visit the help desk. Thank you.   — Jeff G.  ツ 19:39, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Elementary and Sherlock[edit]

Please do not remove major sections of text, labeling them as "unnecessary" without discussion on the talk page, and do not edit war such as you did with the article for Elementary. Similarly please avoid pointy edits such as the one you made to the article for Sherlock. The controversy regarding Elementary's resemblance to Sherlock belongs in the article about Elementary, but not Sherlock, and text should not simply be lifted from one and put in the other article. --Drmargi (talk) 01:37, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
