That people keep wondering which ISP allows IPs to remain static for years? Flyingtoaster1337 08:28, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Comcaſt gives some degree of statisticity[sic] by mapping IPs to MAC addrs. Hence, by keeping the same MAC addr facing their DHCP svrs, I've been steadily assigned this IP addr for about 2 years. Prior to that I'd had some different routers with different IPs. Some of my contributions can be seen to articels like New City Village (Which are totall newbies). 68.39.174.238 22:19, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
I see nothing wrong with removing this box. The user that added it used an edit summary of ":P", and it is redundant to the whois links on the bottom. Regards, Tuxide 04:20, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
It's not annoying, it just didn't immediately make sense. 68.39.174.238 07:10, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

The template-message(s) below contain(s) material found amusing and is/are kept for that reason.
They are NOT intended, nor should they be used, for any research or serious use.

Your neighbors have been blocked in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for violating policy against letting off fireworks and munitions in celebration of the Gregorian New Year against the peace of this State, the government and dignity of the same. To contest this block, please move to another State and let them deal with you or email the blocking administrator or any administrator from this list.

Note to sysops: Shooting off fireworks where it's illegal should almost never be done. If you disagree, contact your system's administrators.
Note: In the event of persistent disregard for the law, like your neighbors displayed this year, AGAIN, the local authorities should do something, but are almost certain to not do so, unless their fireworks do something like start a fire.
This is your final warning. If your neighbors continue to shoot off fireworks next door, feloniously discharge weapons up or at things, including trashcans or rusting cars, or continue to engange in any other noxious effontery, as they did to attempt to "celebrate" the New Year, you will be exiled from New Jersey indefinitely.

English is the universal language

Yug seemed to forget that we should be trying to establish communication with the German Lab as well. I think we need to get going and make setting standards a worldwide effort. The English lab should try to take on a dominant role is setting these standards, as it's destined to become the big dog in the room. We might make a point that English should be used for setting the standards, as it's the most universal of the three languages. i. e. higher percentage of the french and germans speak english than of the anglophones speak the other languages. I don't really know about the technical standards to make any contribution there, but we've probably already got as many or more technical people as the French. I wish you would get an account! Do you think I am the sort of editor who would upload a truckload of images if I didn't have permission to use them? And yes thats exactly why I didn't upload them to the commons because people there are in the frame of mind of delete first ask questions later ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 21:36, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your message on my talk page regarding your OTRS query. I've search through the system a number of different ways and been unable to find a ticket relevant. However, it is of course important to note that just because I wasn't able to find the permission, it doesn't mean it isn't there. I'll ask the uploader for some more details to allow me to track down the email and I'll let you know what progress is made on this issue. Regards. Adambro (talk) 18:03, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

It works for me (tested when I reported the bug fixed and three minutes ago). When you say "fails to return anything", do you get a completely blank screen, or an error message of some kind? Seeing as the script is server-side, reloading without cache shouldn't help, but maybe there's something about the form that's changed, so give it a shot. --Slashme (talk) 05:09, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Indonesian COA

The first image, the one from vector images.com is obviously a derivation of the gov't COA. At some point derivations can become different enough to allow their own copyright. I don't know how that is defined. Quite probably it depends on how good a lawyer you hire. We should avoid redrawing (in vector) close copies of images from VI as there is a possibility that the image has been changed sufficiently to qualify for its own copyright. Which would be a Russian copyright, because VI is, as you know, in Russia. There's another real world factor. It would take a hell of a lot of rubles to hire a decent attorney in the U. S. or U. K. or wherever they would have to sue Wiki. My thought is to quietly move away from using their images. I put this on your talk page, as I don't want educate certain deletionist parties who frequent the graphics lab, please consider deleting it. (It's late, I'm tired, so this probably makes no sense, anyway.) Sagredo⊙☿♀♁♂♃♄ 20:10, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

I meant deleting these comments. I don't know how fast we can do them. The scouting people were kind enough to put a barnstar on my user page, just as they emailed me a list of about 30 logos. The real world is likely to start demanding more of my time, as well. On the VI images, we need to find (google) government (or whatever) images to be sure we're not redrawing something like the wings of the Indonesian eagle. The first part of the project should be to replace the VI rasters with ones from safe sources, concentrating as you say national and state emblems first. an Image google for the motto also worked well.

We could do without the time wasting copyright debate on the graphics page, too. It think User:Sagredo/copyrights and trademarks is ready to be looked over by one or more of Category:Wikipedian intellectual property lawyers, and then should be moved to the graphics lab. Hypothesis

I have a hypothesis that this IP address does not belong to one person, but has changed hands a multitude of times over the years. Miraculously, it has always gone to someone who has decided to make lots of great edits before moving on to another great edtor, and another, and another. I propose to call this the "68.39.174.238 alternating users hypothesis". There could be a user box and everything. Okiefromokla questions? 19:54, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

As far as I know, ever edit made from here as been mine. Granted, someone else could've edited for a time and I wouldn't've known it if they didn't do something really noteworthy that later came back to me. 68.39.174.238 (talk) 20:28, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

G'day. I would like you to consider Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/68.39.174.238 seriously. As I have noted there, I suggest that you create an account that would take the sysop flag once appointed, and you could continue to edit from an IP address whenever it suits you. You would then be able to do sysop actions when appropriate, reducing the double handling. This is not without precedent, as I have successfully nominated another good contributor who had continued to edit from an IP address until I thought his contributions were of sufficient quality that he would be an asset to the admin team. Anon IP

[For anyone who doesn't follow that link: This is an old in-joke, not homophobia]

Are you the only anonymous IP who doesn't have any gay friends? —BradV 03:43, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

euh... I don't know if that will help you quest BradV, but I can garanty that I don't have any [know] gay friend currently. So we have one IP at least. For IP68, I can't say. 220.135.4.212 (talk) 13:55, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

sixty height dot thirty nine dot one hundred seventy four dot two hundred thirty eight : we have to talk.

Hello, I think we (two different IP) are confusing other users of the Graphic Lab. I propose that we call you "68". For me it's a bit more complex, but we can try to call me "220" for the moment. (I have a stable IP, the only trouble is that I use mine, my university's computers, my girl friend computer, and that I change of appartement every 3 months. (my life is quite complex currently).)

If we start the use, other will follow (I hope). 220.135.4.212 (talk) 13:55, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Ok for your last notice. I found that it was the only alternative, since I can't send you emails. Sorry. 220.135.4.212 (talk) 18:00, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

You rock

Yea yea, I know, I can't make you an account, cajole you into making one, force you into the Steward's chair, yadda yadda yadda. Just wanted to let you know I thinks its cool for an IP to have 22,000 edits, you and Bipolar-anonIP give IP editors a good name. Now if we could just re-enable page creation for you guys. Ok, I'm trying to figure out what you're saying and am at a complete loss. Are the images okay or do they need redone? I'll watch this page for your reply. §hep¡Talk to me! 19:45, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, the recent edit you made to Microsoft Private Folder has been reverted, as it appears to be unconstructive. Use the sandbox for testing; if you believe the edit was constructive, ensure that you provide an informative edit summary. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing. Thanks. Reverted "confusing" and "wikify" on Intelligence Community A-Space

Unfortunately, when an article-wide tag is attached with no explanation on the talk page, little progress can be made on reducing grounds for complaint if they are not obvious to other editors. In this case, for example, it is not clear how the article is deficient in wikilinking. I see quite a few wikilinks. Also, the article does not depend on external links; all its references are appropriate and in inline form.

How is the article confusing? Is there, for example, use of unfamiliar intelligence terminology that has not been wikilinked? Again, this can't be fixed if there's no information on the source of the confusion. Looking at the text, I might argue that the reference to GAMMA should be in parentheses rather than brackets, or even as a footnote, but it would surprise me if that's the chief problem.

While these questions are specific to this article, I would urge editors placing article-wide tags to make a regular practice of putting specific critiques on the article talk page.

IP Expiring Soon?

Hey there, 68.39.174.238. I was reading the top of your talk page just now and noted that it's been almost two years since you said that Comcast has assigned this IP address to you. I'm curious, but will it be expiring next January? -- Altiris Helios Exeunt 07:24, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Archiving?

Hi 68, any particular reason why my archiving of your overly long talk page was unwelcome? --  Netsnipe  ►  14:06, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Idea for not having a userpage

If you don't want an account, fine. But at least redirect your userpage to your talk page.-- Freshbakedpie (Wanna talk?) \'_'/ 18:02, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

For as long as I've known 68, he's refused to have a user page or redirect because it reinforces the point that as long as we still have anonymous editors on this site, we need to assume good faith and not prejudge an edit based on whether a user page link is either red or blue. --  Netsnipe  ►  16:13, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
I do not think that I've ever stated that as a reason, however it's redundant now, given the signature default change. 68.39.174.238 (talk) 20:42, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

RE:Your bott blew it...

Thanks for the notice. I'd thought I'd tested it with subsections, but apparently not. Of course, as always, this waited to manifest itself until I was on vacation. I can't really fix it now (luckily someone reformatted that section to get rid of the subheadings) but I will most definitely do so when I get back in a week or so.--Dycedarg ж 18:17, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Welcome

Hello! I've noticed that you have edited Wikipedia without logging in to an account. It's great that you've been contributing; however, I urge you to create an account. Here is a list of the benefits of having an account:

There are no cons to signing up for an account. In fact, you can find even more pros at the "why create an account" page! Signing up is completely free and you don't need to enter any personal information! Plus you can have a user page, which you can use to show your interests, style, or nearly whatever! So, unless you can think of a con, please sign up for an account right now! RC-0722 247.5/1 23:51, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, surprize surprize! 68.39.174.238 (talk) 00:10, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
You know, if you got an account, there might be a way to move your contribs from this one to that one. RC-0722 247.5/1 00:26, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
And? 68.39.174.238 (talk) 00:30, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Note: That would require a database query, and I doubt you could convince the devs of the necessity of such an action.--Dycedarg ж 21:43, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, that's when we use my über hacking skills, cuz there the best I've ever seen. RC-0722 361.0/1 03:46, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

In honor of anon editing...

Who needs accounts anyway? You're making an important point: people are twice as likely to mistake an anon's constructive edits for vandalism. 67.233.7.159 (talk) 22:05, 5 October 2008 (UTC) AKA GO-PCHS-NJROTC (Messages) 22:06, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

there was a comment within the page source that the intent was to swap out the images periodically. But because it was a non-free image it got deleted during its dormancy. If you have it, upload it, and add it like a gallery tot he bottom of the page. --K3vin (talk) 04:41, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
