Speedy deletion nomination of User:Barenose
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on User:Barenose, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. ///EuroCarGT 17:30, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

Your user page
[edit]It was absolutely promotional, advertising your services: "I would help you to create a web presence... I'll help you create campaigns using services like Google and Yahoo Search Marketing..." etc. Wikipedia is absolutely not for any kind of advertising or promotion, and anything like that is deleted at sight.
Wikipedia is a project to build an encyclopedia, and that is all it is. Wikipedia user pages are not like those at social-networking sites. Their use is explained at WP:NOTWEBHOST:
"Wikipedians have their own user pages, but they should be used primarily to present information relevant to working on the encyclopedia. Limited biographical information is allowed, but user pages should not function as personal webpages or be repositories for large amounts of material that is irrelevant to collaborating on Wikipedia. If you are looking to make a personal webpage or blog or to post your résumé, please make use of one of the many free providers on the Internet or any hosting included with your Internet account."
The links in the Welcome message above will tell you more about Wikipedia: before making any edits to do with yourself or your own business, you should also read the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 18:01, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
Answers to your question on my talk page
[edit]A biographical page about a university professor need not be promotional, if you write it from a WP:Neutral point of view, avoid glowing adjectives (see WP:PEACOCK) and do not give opinions, only facts, neutrally stated and cited to reliable sources. So many people try to use Wikipedia for promotional purposes that it has become extremely resistant to that. Read WP:Your first article for advice.
Wikipedia is quite selective about subjects for articles: the general criterion is called Wikipedia:Notability and looks for evidence of "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." There is more detail at WP:Notability (people), and for academics the (quite demanding) standard is explained at WP:Notability (academics). There is some useful advice about academic biographies from an experienced colleague at User talk:Erinkstapleton#Follow-up. Don't list every paper they have ever published, just books and the more significant papers or highly-cited ones - link to their website for the detail.
The words "I would help you to create a web presence" on your deleted user page suggest that you may be planning to write Wikipedia articles as a paid service for clients. That is strongly discouraged, and if you do, you must be very careful indeed if you are not to be blocked as a spammer and your articles deleted.
- First, under the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use (section headed "Paid contributions without disclosure") you are required to declare that you are being paid to edit.
- Second, read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. You should not post an article directly, but may submit a draft for review by uninvolved users. (A good way to do that is to click on Help:Userspace draft and fill in the title. That will create a draft page for you, with links to useful advice and a "Submit" button to send it, when it is ready, to WP:Articles for creation for review.)
- Third, understand that any article you submit will not be your article. It is a fundamental principle that nobody "owns" a Wikipedia article (see WP:OWN) - not its first author, and certainly not its subject. Others can and will edit it. Therefore, you cannot promise your subject that an article will be kept, or that it will be in the form he or she would prefer. Many people have encountered "Wikipedia's Law of Unintended Consequences". If the subject wants a page he or she can control, this is not the site to come to.
Regards, JohnCD (talk) 20:57, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Paola Bachetta, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://womensstudies.berkeley.edu/about/profile/faculty/10.
It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.
If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) CorenSearchBot (talk) 20:05, 11 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Barenose. I see that you removed the bot notice from the article without addressing the copyright issues raised. I went and had a look (since its only a bot), and the article does have a large amount of text that is identical or extremely closely paraphrased. The source page, [1], specifically reserves all rights, therefore this text must be re-written or removed to avoid issues with copyright. Minor cosmetic changes, such as replacing Director for Coordinator, are not enough to avoid infringing the copyright of the source. Please address this by re-writing or removing the directly copied material, or the article may be deleted as a copyright violation. Thank you for your contributions, CrowCaw 22:52, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Crow. The information on the page is taken from a bio that Professor Bachetta gave me, and is it very similar to the other site, in fact they are almost identical. How to proceed? JB, DRAGA design, Oakland, CA USA (talk) 02:33, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
- The easiest way would be to use that bio as a source for the ideas you want to convey, but re-write the text in your own words. We do have a procedure for donating copyrighted materials, but in this case that would take some back-and-forth to prove conclusively who the original author was, and then they would have to release it under a free license, which then allows anyone anywhere to use that for any purpose. The article would likely be blanked in the meantime. That's why I call the first option the "easiest", even though it is basically a start-over for the article. This all stems from the fact that Wikipedia is published under that free license, so we have to be extremely careful to make sure that we actually have the right to give away the content that we so publish. CrowCaw 21:59, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Crow. OK. But I can't do it for a couple of days. I'll talk with Professor Bachetta about it and work on it next week. 50.174.37.3 (talk) 15:38, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hello again Crow. How can I change the name of the article itself? There is a spelling error in the name of the professor. ThanksJB, DRAGA design, Oakland, CA USA (talk) 03:13, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Crow. No worries! I found out how to move the article and did it. thanks! JB, DRAGA design, Oakland, CA USA (talk) 03:16, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Paola Bacchetta
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Paola Bacchetta, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
- It appears to be a clear copyright infringement of https://berkeley.academia.edu/PaolaBacchetta. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. However, even if you use one of these processes to release copyrighted material to Wikipedia, it still needs to comply with the other policies and guidelines to be eligible for inclusion. If you would like any assistance with this, you can ask a question at the help desk.
Speedy deletion nomination of Paola Bacchetta
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Paola Bacchetta requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
331dot (talk) 19:57, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
Re deletion
[edit]It looks like someone deleted the page before you could visit it to see the "Contest this deletion" button in the speedy deletion template. I would suggest contacting the administrator who deleted the page (User talk:Jimfbleak) to request clarification of the deletion. 331dot (talk) 19:59, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Barenose, it looks from the logs like the article was deleted the first time, primarily due to the copyright concerns and a promotional tone to the article. It then looks (to me) like you were going to re-write it but it was deleted for being empty (which pages in the main article space can't be). The best alternative is to click this link: Draft:Paola Bacchetta and work on the article there. That is the Draft area of Wikipedia, where articles in-progress can be worked on, generally without being deleted. Note though that copyright problems will still get it deleted, even from Draft space. Before starting the draft, I would read the advice in sections above regarding the Wikipedia standards for Notability, in general as well as specific to academics. CrowCaw 22:35, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
The article Paola Bacchetta has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Comatmebro ~Come at me~ 18:33, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

Copyright problem: Paola Bacchetta
[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Paola Bacchetta, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to contain material copied from http://womensstudies.berkeley.edu/about/profile/faculty/10, and therefore to constitute a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policies. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are liable to be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:
- If you have permission from the author to release the text under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License (CC-BY-SA), leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Paola Bacchetta and send an email with confirmation of permission to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". Make sure you quote the exact page name, Paola Bacchetta, in your email. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
- If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License and GNU Free Documentation License, and note that you have done so on Talk:Paola Bacchetta. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for instructions.
- If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted "under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License (CC-BY-SA), version 3.0", or that the material is released into the public domain, or if you have strong reason to believe it is, leave a note at Talk:Paola Bacchetta with a link to where we can find that note or your explanation of why you believe the content is free for reuse.
It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Paola Bacchetta saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved.

Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Barenose. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Paola Bacchetta, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.
All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.
If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:
- Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
- Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
- Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
- Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.
Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:28, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
- Please take notice of the good advice given to you on 18 August 2014 by JohnCD, and in particular the bit about declaration of paid editing being a requirement under our Terms of Use. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:31, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
Hello, I have added a credits section to the bottom of the page, which credits both the photographer, who has already given her permission for the use of her photo, and which credits me as the page creator, paid by UC Berkeley. I have sent both the professor and the photographer the copyright permission form this morning. JB, DRAGA design, Oakland, CA USA 15:20, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

Paola Bacchetta
[edit]Hi, thanks for message. You can sign your comments automatically using four tildes ~~~~. I deleted your article because
- The article was a copyright violation or close paraaphrase of this. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. In this case the page says © 2011 UC Regents; all rights reserved. Bachetta is not the stated copyright owner, so it is not hers to donate anyway. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient. But in any case the copyrighted text is far too promotional to be useful for Wikipedia's purposes, so there would not be any point in your jumping through all the hoops that are required.
- it did not provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. It is now Wikipedia policy that biographical articles about living people must have independent verifiable references, or they will be deleted. You had no sources other than her faculty page, clearly not an independent source.
- it was written in a promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic. Examples of unsourced claims presented as fact include: She is on the editorial board of many professional journals.
- The article seems designed to promote her books

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Paolabacchetta.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Paolabacchetta.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.
If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.
Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 01:11, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

Additional advice
[edit]I copy the following from my comments at the Teahouse, at [2]: I wish I had seen this earlier, because I frequently work with bio articles on academics and I perhaps could have clarified this a little for you. The first step in making such an article is to decide if it is reasonably likely that the person is notable--the relevant criteria are WP:PROF WP:AUTHOR or WP:GNG. Most often an academic is notable by WP:PROF, which requires evidence of being an authority in their field. As a rule, the way it is interpreted here, Associate professors do not meet this requirement, which normally requires evidence of major prizes or similar distinctions, or very widely cited publications. As she has written only one book, published by a minor publisher & in few libraries, (the others are her thesis, which doesn't count, and coeditorship rather than authorship of a collective work, which doesn't count either) she won't meet WP:AUTHOR. Academic rarely meet the GNG , unless their work has attracted widespread public interest as shown by substantial coverage in published sources. In her field this is possible, but there is no evidence of it for her. Therefore, there is no possible way a satisfactory article can be written at this stage in her career. DGG ( talk ) 04:21, 15 November 2014 (UTC)
general advice and warning
[edit]- You are apparently working as a paid editor in this. You have in my opinion no justification accepting money to write an article which you ought to know will not be accepted; since you apparently did not know the criteria for accepting articles, you have no justification for working as a paid editor in the subject; as you do not know the basics or our requirements for sourcing and copyright, you are not qualified to be working as a paid editor at all--or indeed, to edit articles at all, coi or otherwise, until you have learned them.
- Writing copyvio articles to promote other people's work when they are not qualified for them is the worst form of promotional editing. We have a very limited tolerance for paid editing when it is done properly, and none at all when it is done in this manner. If you continue in this fashion, I shall to block you as a promotional-only editor. If you want to edit here, learn in the usual way by making small changes and additions to existing articles, making sure they are based on reliable sources. DGG ( talk ) 04:21, 15 November 2014 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:Paola Bachetta.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Paola Bachetta.jpg, which you've attributed to http//www.shiffrar.com. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Diannaa (talk) 03:52, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
