Protecting the featured article
[edit]Generally, we do not protect the featured article except for very short bursts. In the case of Hero of Ukraine, it would've been easier to just block the main vandal involved (which is what happened anyway). I've unprotected it now. --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 11:39, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
- Ah ok. No problem. I do that too sometimes. If it was an ordinary article, your action would've been quite alright. --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 12:28, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

Theodore7's block
[edit]Greetings, oh Queen of the Borg. I blocked Theodore7 a little while ago for 24 hours for edit warring, without realizing that you had already imposed an indefinite block.[2]. In other words, I have unintentionally shortened your block (since the shortest block — mine — wins). Sorry about that. On the other hand, indefinite seems a bit extreme to me. How about a compromise: would you like to undo my block and give him a week, with my blessing? A request for arbitration is under way, incidentally. Bishonen | talk 15:36, 1 February 2006 (UTC).

I'm trying to learn this Wiki crap better, I have used it for a long time but only recently became brave enough to attempt minor editing. I mostly just do linkys, I don't think my opinions are neutral enough to write complete articles.
I would appreciate any advice on operating around here, even though I know everything already, I'm always open to learning more. Heheheee This place needs smileys. Protection of anon IP talk page
[edit]I understand your desire to protect User talk:192.204.2.2 in order to prevent the removal of vandalism notices, but how will the anonymous IP reply to the allegations? If it really is that flagrant, a block may be in order. — Ambush Commander(Talk) 02:17, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
- Unprotected for now. Just for reference - a block does not prevent an IP user from tampering with messages left on his/her own talk page. --BorgQueen 08:39, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

The Nuggets
[edit]Hi, I posted a definition for the the term "The Nuggets" that stated: Jonathon Banco. Requires inordinate amounts of rest and frequents ski boot stores. Seemingly both infatuated with, and terrified of, "the ladies." There may have been somtheing else in there too. This is an accurate definition of my friend, commonly referred to as The Nuggets. I understand Wikepedia doesn't want people filling up space with definitions of their friends however. Just wondering a) how you found that so quickly and b) if you guys wouldn't mind, not deleting the next time I post this message for maybe, 1 to 2 days, so at least I can alert my friends to its existence, before it is deleted.

Korean translation
[edit]Hi, if you have the time, could you please help me by translating this banner, allegedly used by Koreans during the Football World Cup 2002, I have been told it means Go home Hitler. Thanks for your time. Poulsen 14:27, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- The precise translation of the banner is: "Sons of Hitler, Leave!".
- "Sons" can be replaced with "children" or "offspring". i.e. It refers to people who have Hitler as their direct ancestor.
- What a nasty banner, by the way.
- Thank you very much. Yeah, that's pretty harsh, especially as the host of a tournament. It was included in a general rant on cheating referees and unsportsmanlike fans, which was easily dismissable as POV, but there might be something to it. Once again, thank you! Poulsen 14:59, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Strange change at the "Jack Vance" entry
[edit]Hi
You made a strange change recently at the Jack Vance entry. Someone had it seems redirected a link to THE FACE (the magazine) and you changed it to THE FACE (a novel). Problem is, it is not the correct novel although the title fits. The one you linked to is by Dean Koontz, not Jack Vance. At the entry of the magazine at least Jack Vance is mentioned at the bottom as one of two writers who has written a novel by that title.
Bjornking
- I see. Please undo the change. Perhaps it would be best to create an article for the Jack Vance novel. --BorgQueen 09:59, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

Banned IP 62.236.76.8
[edit]Hi, I noticed you banned the IP 62.236.76.8 see talk page.
I am sure you did it for the right reasons, but the IP in question is not someone's private IP, it's an IP of the central internet connection server (proxy) of the educational network of our city. That means that there are tens or hundreds of thousands users in libraries, schools, universities etc.
I want to know is it possible to contribute in Wikipedia from the computers connected to the educational network? There are people who are of good will and want to contribute to Wikipedia, but is it now impossible from the city's computers?
What would you suggest for solution? I checked out the FAQ's and couldn't find an answer. --Appelshine 08:14, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- The block was only for 24 hours. It is not being blocked at the moment. --BorgQueen 08:24, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, I see. But if someone decides to vandalize Wikipedia, say, from a public computer from a library, and happens so that the IP is banned temporarily. I sincerely hope that wouldn't happen, but there's always the possibility. What could be done to let the "honest" people to contribute to Wikipedia? What would you suggest? --Appelshine 08:52, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I can only suggest that they use a non-shared IP. Currently Wikipedia has no technical feature that allows "innocent" users to contribute when their shared IP is blocked, as far as I am aware of. It causes a lot of headache for admins as much as it does for contributers who receive the collateral damage. --BorgQueen 08:55, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

205.188.116.201
[edit]I've unblocked 205.188.116.201 because it is an AOL proxy IP. Blocking it will not do much good, because the vandal can move on to other articles to evade the block. It also can confuse and annoy legitimate editors who use AOL if they attempt to edit the pages assigned to that proxy. —Guanaco 16:46, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Blocked anon
[edit]Hi, mighty Queen, it looks like you and I blocked 82.36.220.152 simultaneously. I only blocked for 3 hours, not because they don't deserve more, but because most IPs are dynamic. Your call, feel free to remove both blocks and impose whatever you think best. (Note that if you remove mine, yours disappears too, so re-blocking would be necessary.) Blocking of User:202.156.6.54
[edit]Hi BorgQueen, I know you have been blocking 202.156.6.54 recently. I hope you understand the matter, this is a shared IP and legitimate users like myself and other Wikipedians cannot edit. This causes collateral damage, could you not block the IP in future? Thanks. --Terence Ong 10:08, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
- Oh and turn a blind eye to the frequent, often massive vandalism coming from the infamous IP? My recent blocks were no more than 3 hours at maximum, usually 1 hour or less, and if you look at the log closely, you will notice I have been trying to reduce block time, unblocking to see if the vandal is gone but blocking soon again, thanks to their stubborness. Have you tried to complain to your ISP about the matter? Thanks for understanding. --BorgQueen 10:21, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
- I suppose a block for around 15 minutes is fine, but not too long though. --Terence Ong 03:54, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

But, here lies a great problem: we Indians are more than 1000000000 people – of course all Indians, but with a varied cultural background – India is like a sub-continent. Now, you have given an idea: I will discuss this at India portal, and if possible we may try to decide – but, I am sure the attempt is likely to fail simply because we have several dishes which are like our national dish. --Bhadani 15:17, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

- The request is at: Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive80#Antifinnugor. I suggest you solve any misunderstanding on WP:AN/I through discussion, before I place a copy of it on your talk page, if the RFC wasn't made in bad faith. --BorgQueen 10:01, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

- And if it wasn't full of your usual invective, I might have let it stand, but as it is, I've written a comment proposing that your abuse campaign against dab be deleted on sight from AN/I from now on. The ArbCom dealt with dab's behavior as well as yours in the rfar on you, you know. They found no reason to censure him (and lots of reasons to censure you). It's over. There are no new facts. Oh, oh, now don't forget to use the words "hate", "vandalizing", and "clique" about me when you reply, because that's what people are when they contradict you, right? Bishonen | ノート 11:44, 17 March 2006 (UTC).
According to this edit you sp the article on the 10th of March. However, either you forgot to protect it or someone else lifted it. There is no protection on the article as of this time. I have also removed the SP tag. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 23:59, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm going to unsprotect this now, since it's been almost two weeks since you protected it. Since WP:SEMI is for dealing with serious current vandalism, 13 days seems longer than "current" can really be stretched to. Can I ask you to take a cruise through your protection log and see if you have others that got left protected? Thanks. -Splashtalk 23:28, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your concern but as far as real articles are concerned, there is none that was not listed in the list of protected pages. The rest are blocked IP user talk pages that have been protected to prevent their tampering with messages left on them. --BorgQueen 05:16, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, but do remember that these need unprotecting, too. Otherwise our newest vandal fighters are not able to help out properly. Really, there's not any need for sprotection beyond the length of the block. I think you've got quite a few of these that could use unprotection? -Splashtalk 13:18, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
- Most of those IP talk pages have been semiprotected because they were being persistently vandalized by the blocked users. However, I just unprotected those whose block have been expired or were not so persistent (except the IP used by the Gibraltarian since he keeps removing the notice). I will still keep an eye on the IP pages in case they return to their old habit. Regards, BorgQueen 13:59, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Vedic metal
[edit]So BorgQueen, please explain what warranted the continual deletion of the Vedic metal article? Is this perhaps a case of personal opinion interfearing? Apparently the grounds for the deletion of the original article a few weeks back was that 'it is an advertisement' - well thankyou for your 'guilty until proven innocent' stance. But that aside - when now presented with an article which was expanded tenfold, incorporating a number of bands from various countries, totally collapsing any 'advertisment' argument, it was again deleted without explination. What exactly is your problem with the Vedic metal article? The Vedic metal scene is the size of the Viking metal one almost - should I go attack that genre because clearly the bands mentioned there are only adverts? Obiously something other than logic is leading to this judgement, I would like to know exactly what this reasoning is. Vastu 16:52, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for your inquiry. First let me state that I personally found the concept of Vedic metal fascinating, and would like to see it grow so the young generation can enjoy the ancient wisdom of Vedas through the music. But the policy states that, once an article is deleted through AfD process, it is not to be created, and if it is created it is to be deleted under CSD G4, the recreation of deleted materials. If you have objections, I recommend you bring this issue to Wikipedia:Deletion review, where you can discuss with other users whether the article should be undeleted. Please let me know if you have any further question. I am glad some people cherish and care about Vedic metal, by the way. --BorgQueen 17:06, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- Thankyou for your reply, and sorry for my harsher tone earlier - it is just that from my perspective, the events that transpired looked something like this;
- article deleted for being about one band (assuming that I had been promoting them for personal or finincial gain?) - new article created incorporating bands from dfferent regions and recording companies - that article deleted by reversion (i.e. on the same grounds?!) - revelation that a vote was taken in my absence by only two people who didnt have sufficient knolwedge of the genre or motivation to defend it based on incomplete evidence that forbids the article from again being created - observation that other sub-genres like Viking metal arnt treated the same
- I think you can understand how this looked to me. User:Spearhead's comments for example about eliminating what he/she saw as a 'psuedo genre' are perticularily telling - is not Viking metal then a pseudo-genre? Most Vedic metal bands are united by death metal styles of music and vocals, and so the argument that there is nothing unifying about the genre (which is already unified by Vedic themes is it not?) could be challenged. When the first article was deleted, I had no idea for what reason it had happened - I suspected that some fellow Indian, ignorant of metal, had probably mistook it for some kind of westernised genre assotiating Hinduism with the occult, and deleted it - but as it happens, it was fellow metalheads who killed it.
- I created the article Indian rock a while back in an attempt to provide a source of information on India's contribution to the rock scene, as part of my beliefs about cultural diversity and liberalism, and especially wanted to focus on metal, as that is under-represented even within this already internationally unrecognised scene. Now I am not sure if I will find time to challenge the deletion vote, and so, there will likely not be a Vedic metal article which the metal fans of the world can view in the Template:Heavymetal or Heavy metal music articles - something which would have brought knolwedge of the scene to international auidience, and helped artists/fans a little.
- Regards, Vastu 17:32, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for your comment on my talk page. A big part of the list is from the french Wikipedia article.
About Vedic metal, it was deleted last year, but if a new article is written with new material, it might be ok to have a article in that namespace. --Mallarme 17:59, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

- No, the talk page of IP 202.156.6.54 is not "your" user page, since the IP is a proxy of starhub which dozens of users share at the same time. I suggest you register your own user account to avoid any misunderstanding or confusion. --BorgQueen 23:34, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- Since I am a user for this IP, what makes me the owner for this user page as well as with the dozens of users. I don't see any problem with that. 23:39, 21 April 2006 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.156.6.54 (talk • contribs)
- First, strictly speaking, you don't "own" your user page. Wikipedia does. Second, even if you do own it, then all those dozens of users are co-owners, and you will need their agreement to make any change to the shared user page. It is a shared property, and you have no right to make any change without other users' agreement. --BorgQueen 23:55, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- No, you're wrong, I never meant to said I does own the page, however when ever there's anything which I felt discomfort with it, I could removed it, those replies were clearly for me, not for the others user, so I had the right to remove it, I don't need an agreement from other users, and lastly please explain your reason whenever you reverted an user page next time. If anything, you may want to consider emailing abuse on other users at starhub dot com and waste your time as well, since I obviously own the IP. 00:02, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

202.156.6.54 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) has not only been removing information from the Laozi article (thanks for protecting that, incidentally), but has twice now deleted my comments from Talk:Laozi and replaced them with a cut-and-paste from Talk:Sima Qian, despite my warning on his Talk page ([6] & [7]). Could you explain to him that this isn't acceptable? He simply ignores me, with regard both to his behaviour and to the article contents. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 20:33, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- I was too quick on the last one; he hadn't deleted my comments, but buried them in the middle of the mass of cut-and-paste and a new, very long reply. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 20:40, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- I don't think I would be much of a help here. I recommend RfC. --BorgQueen 05:41, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
But the issue isn't an article, it's the behaviour of an anon on Talk pages; an RfC would be unhelpful and inappropriate. I was simply asking for the sort of thing that I do when people approach me in similar circumstances — to help with a disruptive User by explaining to him that his behaviour isn't acceptable, and advising him on how to behave within Wikipedia norms. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 09:44, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the revert
[edit]Thanks. I guess I'm some sort of rouge admin now. I'm half-temped to ask the anon what I deleted; the only things I can recall deleting recently were uncontested WP:PROD nominations, which, you know, you'd have thought were pretty easy to contest. —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 19:43, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
blocked ip address
[edit]You have blocked an ip address sometimes assigned to me by att. I'm contacting you via my work computer, which has a different ip address. I know that sometimes ip addresses are blocked because they are used by vandals, but it seems counterproductive to block shared ip addresses, since the chances are that ip address will be randomly assigned to people who don't deserve to be blocked while the vandal will be randomly assigned a different ip address and can continue to post. What do you suggest? Rick Norwood 15:59, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
- Please tell me the ip address and I will unblock it. Thanks. --BorgQueen 17:22, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism from IP 167.206.185.194
[edit]This IP is a school. I attend it, so I am representing it to see it gets unblocked. Sure, some people will vandalize, but it is not right to punish us all for what a few of us do. Is it possible to just allow edits from logged in users from this IP? If so, I think this would be a solution, because you can then block specific users who vandalize, not everyone who uses the IP. Thank you. PS: The school in question is Marlboro Memorial Middle School, in Marlboro Township, New Jersey. Go to the education section, the school pictured is MMMS. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aido2002 (talk • contribs)
- I think other admins explained it well on your talk page. No, there is no way to allow only logged in users using the IP. Please contact the network admin of your school and come up with some solution before we unblock it because — in case you haven't noticed — almost all edits from the IP are pure vandalism. --BorgQueen 01:02, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Translation Requests
[edit]I noticed you removed a non-existent link from the Jane Harrison article, and, although I agree that we should minimize non-existence *chuckle*, I inserted de:Jane Harrison in the hope that someone (perhaps me) would translate the English version. I translated an article when such a non-existent link was left on an article, perhaps in the hopes of my arrival :) although the original editors also posted a request on a translation page. Since I cannot find a Wiki guide on this situation: should editors not link to other languages until a translation is complete? Justin 09:59, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- It is not advisable to place the link for that purpose, for such invalid links will confuse readers. Instead, I suggest you post a request here. --BorgQueen 10:15, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

- To quote WP:RFA: "If you intend to nominate yourself, please take note that while there is no hard and fast requirement for nominating, editors with less than three to six months experience and 1,000–2,000 edits very rarely succeed in becoming admins."
