Turkish brigade modification

Ive been noted that changes couldnt be made, even tho the original artical on Wikipedia is based on 2 sources where the facts are confused, which is evident to all who read the original sources, and is in all a copy paste from a blog. As an academic, i feel like its a grave danger to spread wrong information of history, specially on a page like wikipedia where many goes for knowledge. And the changes i made wasnt accepted. So the question is, what is your goal with this ? To make correct information easy accesable; or let any morron passing by "writing history" ?

In academic circuls, wikipedia isnt held on high regards, and with this incident, i can now fully understand why. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.254.78.183 (talk) 00:14, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

Anyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, so long as they do so in a productive manner. If you believe that the article was biased, you should attempt to rewrite it using reliable sources. G S Palmer (talk) 12:50, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

I did, and it was changed once again back to the blog copy pase. That leaves me to think if the managment isnt biased as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.254.78.183 (talk) 14:50, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

If you do so in a manner that could be viewed as an improvement, as opposed to vandalism, then you will (most likely) not be reverted. G S Palmer (talk) 16:15, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

How can we improve wikipedia?

how can we? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.9.168.249 (talk) 13:20, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

Well, if you're looking for things to do, then you could start by looking for and fixing typos and the like. That's what I started with, but everyone has different interests, so I can't really suggest what you might like to do. G S Palmer (talk) 16:18, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

Do you often revert edits without a reason?

Hi G S! I see that you have reverted an edit I made on Democratic Republic of the Congo - but you didn't give a reason. I gave a very clear reason for my edit and I sent a message to the editor whose work I deleted. What are your thoughts? Francis Hannaway (talk) 20:29, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

Sorry about that. I was kind of hurrying at the moment, and on a quick inspection it looked like you had removed an infobox. In response to your question, I probably don't use edit summaries as much as I should - but I'm working on it. G S Palmer (talk) 23:04, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

Proposed Deletion of Maggie Jimenez

G S Palmer, I work for Shine Entertainment, the agency responsible for Maggie Jimenez endorsements and other marketing ventures. We don't have a reliable source for the page we are creating, however we can assure you all of the information is true. I have included her Linkedin as form of reference. Thank you, Lcrocha Lcrocha (talk) 21:25, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

I believe you: however, the policy is quite clear in that all biographies must have reliable sources. You may want to read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons to get a better understanding of the subject. G S Palmer (talk) 23:23, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

About Neelmani Content

The Content about Neelmani, which I posted from this IP address is constructive one

Neelmani is a name of the person, for which I have posted, as far as earlier content is concerned it is about the film 60 years, old, so, not to be bothered, the Neelmani's content should be published, since there are lots of fans of him, also he has his own personal web in search engine too www.neelmani.co.in.

I will from this IP will make regular updates on the Topic Neelmani.

Thanks a lot........ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.244.221.135 (talk) 17:04, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

Please read Notability is not temporary. Just because the film is old does not mean it is no longer notable. If you wish to create an article about a person named Neelmani, please consider creating a new article at Neelmani (person) or some related title. However, before you do so, please consider reading Wikipedia:Notability (people). G S Palmer (talk) 17:16, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

Doctor Who

Hi. About which episodes Rachel Talalay will direct: based on how the past directors for series 8 have been announced I believe it's a reasonable assumption that it's those episodes she'll direct. 101090ABC (talk) 20:22, 14 May 2014 (UTC)

I'd like to add that the listing is only for now in any case, since episodes will in any case be shifted around. This is even for the other directors. 101090ABC (talk) 20:24, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
However likely it seems, it would still be WP:SPECULATION, and therefore has no place in the article. G S Palmer (talk) 20:29, 14 May 2014 (UTC)

Lady Art Historians

Dear G S Palmer,

Hello!

I very much appreciate your desire to neaten up the title of the page on art historians who happen to be women, but it is kind of important to me to retain the original title on the grounds that they are art historians first, and then women. From my perspective it is a feminist title, I chose it for specific reasons, and while it might not roll off the tongue, I admit, it is actually exactly what I want the list to be...if you see what I mean.

Hello, I take it you're an admin. You should check my talk page, the guy is at it again with his personal attacks.

He left this message, "I'm a dear friend of ambassador Domecq, all your messages will be sent to the embassy. CODE NAME: AMOR, Greetings to my friends residing in the Philippines."

He's impersonating another professional diplomat. PacificWarrior101 (talk) 04:58, 19 May 2014 (UTC)PacificWarrior101

@PacificWarrior101: Sorry, I'm not an admin. I will say, it's pretty obvious (in my eyes) that this user has some agenda they're trying to push (though I have no idea what it is). Your best bet would be to contact Atama (talk · contribs), the admin who dealt with the original thread at ANI. They said they were going to keep an eye on the page. Mo Alexander

I'm confused. Why did you choose to delete the page about Mo Alexander the comedian that was quoted by multiple sources about Monica Lewinski but make a page 2 days later for Mo Alexander the football player? Shouldn't this also be under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. He's a forth round pick to the Rams. How is that important or significant? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Penemue70 (talkcontribs) 02:03, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi Penemue70, you'll note that I didn't create the new page under that title: it was created by Yankees10 (talk · contribs). That being said, I don't recall how your article looked when I CSD'd it, but it must have had some problem or it wouldn't have been eligible for speedy deletion.
The reason Maurice Alexander (American football) is notable (or will be - possibly WP:TOOSOON) is because he does (or will) meet WP:NGRIDIRON, one of the subsections of the notability guideline. G S Palmer (talk) 13:09, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

IBCPirates

I'm sorry, what? --IBCPirates (talk) 20:30, 21 May 2014 (UTC)IBCPirates

You'll have to give me a bit more context than that if I'm to figure out what you're talking about, IBCPirates. G S Palmer (talk) 20:33, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

Well, what you just did! This isn't the first time somebody has deleted an article that I was in the process of creating....--IBCPirates (talk) 20:36, 21 May 2014 (UTC) So, my question is, I'm sorry, what? --IBCPirates (talk) 20:42, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

  • The reason I nominated I miss you (Avril Levine) for deletion (it hasn't been deleted yet) is that it doesn't contain any content other than a rephrasing of the title, meaning that it meets criteria A3 (No content) of the Criteria for speedy deletion. If you wish to prevent it's deletion, simply add a few sentences describing the subject of the article, which will make it automatically disqualified for deletion under that criterion.
  • Now, you say that you've had articles you were working on deleted before. Perhaps, instead of creating the article without any content, and then working on it, you should draft it in userspace or use Wikipedia:Articles for creation. To draft in your userspace, either create it in your sandbox or search for User:IBCPirates/YOURARTICLENAMEHERE and select the Start the User:IBCPirates/YOURARTICLENAMEHERE page option. This will give you the chance to develop the article to a sufficient level that it can't be speedy deleted upon being moved to mainspace. G S Palmer (talk) 23:03, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

Okay, thank you. So, how could I start a sandbox? I'm new on wikipedia if you couldn't already tell...--IBCPirates (talk) 18:03, 23 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi there. It was me who began (therefore also left halfway :-) the dividing into sections. Only recently I noticed that there were no divisions and began doing that, thinking it could be useful. However, as I expressed in the edit summary I left the rest to when the article pass AfD test, Thanks for your contribution. Cheers. --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 21:57, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Could you kindly help me with a Kosovo template at Balkans, I could not find it anywhere. Thank you. --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 22:04, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Not sure why you came to me with this question, but are you referring to Template:Country data Kosovo? That's the only "Kosovo template" I could find on the page.

Fair enough on the order of Wilmhursts eps for Season 8. But surely its been confirmed that Talalay is directing Eps 9 & 10? A partial check would be great.

@Ravensfire: another interesting thing I found: User:TheRedPenOfDooom (SPI) is probably another one of his socks, just (as far as I can tell) unconnected. Very similar to his ChanderForYoou/Chanderforyou ploy. G S Palmer (talk) 16:31, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
Oh wow - absolutely agree. That connection is pretty obvious in hindsight. I'll let the admin who handled that SPI know and suggest they have that one moved under TJK. Ravensfire (talk) 16:39, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

Please take a look at the IP's unblock request. Do you agree that things had been settled? Before I blocked the IP, I did notice that the last revert was different, but it was still a breach of 3RR in my estimation, and the previous reverts had been contentious. Do you think the IP should be unblocked? Thanks for your thoughts.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:54, 31 May 2014 (UTC)

  • @Bbb23: yes, I would support an unblock. They were obviously acting in good faith, not knowing that by reverting they were violating policy. Speedy deletion declined: Balsam Range

  • Hi Gary Dee. I'm not entirely sure what you want, since you've been more than a little bit unclear. However, I'm guessing that you're distressed over my tagging your article as having unreliable sources. However, before contesting that, you might want to read WP:USERGENERATED, and realize that WikiMapia, the source you have provided, is precisely what is meant by self-published media—whether books, newsletters, personal websites, open wikis, blogs, personal pages on social networking sites, Internet forum postings, or tweets... (Emphasis added).
P.S. I realize that you requested that I reply on your talk page, however, I prefer to reply here when responding to someone's queries. Cheers! G S Palmer (talk) 18:40, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

I didn't look up how to move a page beforehand. Should have done that. Before I do any further stupid changes: So to do it the right way, I should revise the old article and then require moving it? Thanks and all the best, André Xaggi (talk) 00:56, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

@Xaggi: Pretty much, except that you should actually be able to move it yourself. Just hover over the little arrow beside the "View history" tab, and it will give you the option of moving it.
P.S. You won't be able to move the page to the new title until the one you created is deleted, so best to wait until then. Good luck! G S Palmer (talk) 01:06, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Clarification Help

I'm new to Wikipedia and I'm a bit unsure how my created page "List of music in Doctor Who Confidential" was put in speedy deletion because (I think) of duplication. I did check the original page of "Doctor Who Confidential" and it doesn't have that information on it.

Thanks for any help in advance

Epaphroditini

Hello, Thanks. I did not know whether to put the references there or at the top for easy viewing. It looks better in its right place. You sure are fast. Is there something that automatically notifies of new pages?

Do you know how to cite the species.mediawiki sister project. They use Wikispecies on the main page. I am going to use that for now, so I will make that correction. It is kind of awkward though, since I keep wanting a namespace prefix like Sister:Wikispecies. Sister does not sound right either. Will just use Wikispecies for now. RC711 (talk) 20:13, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

Why did you take my links to the Wikispecies Sister project out? It took me a while to make that, and the references to the tree of life, and the only feature description of this tribe that I could find anywhere. I wasn't real happy with the format, but the ease of research was scores higher.RC711 (talk) 20:19, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
  • (edit conflict) Hi RC711, I already left you a message on your talk page, presumably while you were writing this. The way I found your article was through Special:NewPages, a log of all the recently created articles. I keep an eye on it so I can help improve new pages and delete bad ones.
Also, two ways to link to Wikispecies are to use Template:Wikispecies or Template:Wikispecies-inline. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 20:22, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
Sorry about bumping into you on edits. I am still not sure whether to talk in your page or mine. I will look at the templates and try them on the little thing I put in the talk page for Epaphroditini. Why did you take it out? It seemed pretty useful to me, but I am highly biased to saving people time. If it takes me a long time to find and create, I figure it could save many visitors that much time per visit potentially. Are WikiSpecies and Wikipedia competing?RC711 (talk) 20:36, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
Anyway, here's something interesting: this may help... I haven't looked through all of it but your tribe should be in there somewhere. Also, this website says that Epaphroditini is a synonym of Phyllocranini. Maybe you should move the article (and the category I created) to that name instead? G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 23:39, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
  • The name Epaphroditini was used consistently in all the wikipedia pages listed. I do not know all their sources, but there were no exceptions. I am working on something else right now, and I do not really want to get into a name fight with anyone. I am generally more concerned with structural issues, and try not to get into issues that are rightfully the property of the professional visitors to these pages. If they want to rename something, and have a professional or technical reason for it, then let them do it. I, an outsider, can put together a basic page with enough basic information to satisfy most of the visitors, but that is not my area of expertise. To me it is interesting, but not my fight.
Thanks for putting back that one reference. That was the one I thought was most critical and hard to find. Like I said, the other sources, including WikiSpecies, did not cover Epaphroditini at all. This one at least had some technical features of the tribe for entomologists. ThanksRC711 (talk) 00:49, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

Just to explain that by convention in the Paleontology Project, articles on genera don't usually redline species names, as very often the species articles never get written because so little info is available about so many of them, and plus that info can be hard to access in many cases. I look forward to seeing your new articles on those four species; let me know when you have created them. And P.S., if you want someone to not take changes personally, you can make the (rather simple) changes by hand instead of hitting the revert button. Invertzoo (talk) 12:47, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

  • @Invertzoo: you probably thought I had totally given up on/forgotten about it, but here's the first one: Frodospira cochleata. I'll let you know when I have the rest. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 19:30, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
    • I read your new addition, thanks for the nice little new article. I changed the intro sentence. You can't says native to Sweden when we are talking 400 million years ago as the geography of the world was very different indeed back then. And also depending on what the source says, one can't really even say "native to that area", because we don't know for sure that it didn't occur in many other different areas too, but perhaps those areas don't have a suitable outcrop of the limestone from that time period. You will see how I changed your text. Best wishes, Invertzoo (talk) 17:01, 19 June 2014 (UTC)

Sheila Simpkins

Take a look now. I was in the middle of writing still and left a note to that effect--Aichik (talk) 19:13, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

  • Aichik, please get into the habit of providing a link when you talk about an article. Even if deleted, Sheila Faye Simpkins provides useful info. about the deletion: when, who, why. I did, unusually, read some of this article before I deleted it. But the deletion decision was easy - there was, quite simply, not even an assertion of notability: "Sheila is a former prostitute" - nothing else. Always start articles in userspace until they contain sound evidence of notability. Text emailed but in this case I am very dubious about whether Sheila meets our notability guidelines. You would probably have more chance with Becca Stevens (priest) or Thistle Farms.RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:07, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
  • I should have previewed the last sentence above before I saved! Revised view: Sheila is definitely non-notable; the Becca article could do with more evidence of notability. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:12, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

You don't think someone who so dramatically changed their life around like that and was profiled in the Times is an important enough entry? -- Aichik (talk) 03:23, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

I was trying to add a page for my father, Bill Stair - who worked on Leo the Last (1970) - but recevied a deletion notice and a suggestion that I create a Talk: Bill Stair page to explain why it shouldn't be deleted. So I did, citing proof of his existence with links from imdb and amazon.uk.

But the page was still deleted.

Since I offred proof that he actually did exist, is there any chance you could reinstate the page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Melichrone (talkcontribs) 21:21, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

I removed your speedy tag for two reasons (a) its deletion may be controversial, and (b) although badly worded, it asserts notability, and is not so bad as to be blown up (pardon the pun). Bearian (talk) 18:41, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Grogarnsberget, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Baltic (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Administrators noticeboard help

Hello G S Palmer, first of all I would like to thank you for all your help here. It shortened the original post and made it more readable. The reason I am contacting you is the mentioned user LardoBalsamico is continuing his personal attacks and also breaking another wikipedia policy which you can see here. Since there's personal attacks involved, I contacted you on your talk page. I thought you would like to know.Rivaner (talk) 18:01, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

  • I presume that this diff is what you are referring to. However, I can't really help you, since I'm not an admin. I help out at ANI occasionally, and sometimes weigh in on threads - I commented on on yours hoping that it would draw more attention to it. Hopefully someone will take note of it now.
By the way, I don't think they were really editing Ca2james' comment, just replying to each paragraph separately. It was untactful, but it didn't really change the meaning of his comment either. However, you would probably be justified in removing their replies and consolidating them below the previous comment. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 18:33, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your help again, I won't be editing the talk page, I would like the other editor to see what he did, maybe it will raise more attention to the user's behaviour. These personal attacks are really annoying. Don't worry, as always, I will remain civil :).Rivaner (talk) 18:51, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Hurricanes

Do you know where my article about hurricanes is? I just now came on Wikipedia and it was gone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mel2alan (talkcontribs) 17:15, 19 June 2014 (UTC)

Wikilinking

Hi, and thanks for your work on the English Wikipedia.

I noticed an article you worked on. Just a short note to point out that we don’t normally link:

  • dates
  • years
  • commonly known geographical terms (including well-known country-names), and
  • common terms you’d look up in a dictionary (unless significantly technical).

This applies to infoboxes, too.

It's been an enormous ongoing task to unlink the years in these species articles.

Thanks, and my best wishes.

Armory (software)

Hi,

With all due respect speedy deletion of Armory (software) is premature. What I have written is a stub that I plan on expanding in an intelligent way. Armory is notable in the bitcoin space for a lot of reasons, please see Talk:Armory_(software) for my initial response. Thanks! —Wikijeff (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 17:24, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

ISO TC 37 Sub Committee pages

Dear GS Palmer, I have created Wikipedia pages for the sub committees of ISO TC 37. These are important committees that create standards in the area of terminology and languages. All the standards created by these sub committee are published through ISO. Many individuals, organizations and governments use these standards. The pages are factual and are not promoting any commercial concern. I would ask that you remove your suggestion to delete them. Exercise

You said it. Now provide the diffs, please. If there is anything objectionable, I would be more than happy to strike it out. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 23:32, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
