Series 8 Doctor Who Episodes

When should we add them? Soccersalvatore (talk) 20:45, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

@Soccersalvatore: Personally, I'd wait until two weeks before the airdate, or until the episode starts to get significant coverage in independent sources. At the very least we should wait until the airdate for the episode is known. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 21:24, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Ok thanks Soccersalvatore (talk) 22:04, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Mycocepurus castrator

Hi again, sorry I did not see your edit summary indicating that you were going to come back and make some expansions to Mycocepurus castrator. Seeing that the species hit the news a few days ago, I expanded the article with a few sentences. I'll stay away from the article for a while if you intend to expand it further. It is an interesting species nevertheless. Cheers, jonkerztalk 15:23, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

@Jonkerz: It is interesting! Sadly, I don't have access to the original article - I notice that you do quite a bit of work in ant-related articles, and I thought it might be worth asking if you do? G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 15:32, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
Unfortunately I do not, but it is quite possible that a PDF of the article will pop up on the species page on AntCat in the following weeks. As you probably have already noticed, it is a somewhat open secret that most ant-related academic articles, including articles published in Current Biology, can be found on AntCat :) If I stumble upon the article online, I'll send you a link. jonkerztalk 15:50, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
Quick update: it is possible to use Google cache to read the article online. jonkerztalk 15:53, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
@Jonkerz: Thank you: that was very helpful. The article is now, for all intents and purposes,  Done. I intend to go through the less academic sources I can find and use them to back up the text, so as to make it easier to verify for those without subscriptions. If you have any thoughts/suggestions about the article, I'd love to hear them. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 15:44, 29 August 2014 (UTC)
Very nice article, well done! I chipped in with a few tweaks; mainly, I tried to summarize the article in the lead. All the best, jonkerztalk 21:00, 29 August 2014 (UTC)

If you're interested in expanding other Mycocepurus species or the main article, you can copy content (as long as it is attributed) from this open access article by Mackay et al. (2004) PDF, published in Journal of Insect Science. The article is not very long, only 7 pages, but there's enough material to expand at least a few stubs. jonkerztalk 17:08, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

Laverne Cox is a female?

Could you please point me in the direction of the discussion you referenced? Does it only occur only the "Woman" talk page? I've searched around, but can't find other mentions on Wikipedia's various conflict resolution boards. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. I'll look for your answer here since I don't have an account with Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.188.123.53 (talk) 20:55, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

I believe the consensus was reached at Talk:Woman#Transgender woman suggestions for picture. I'm not aware of a thread at any of the various dispute resolution noticeboards/requests for comment, but then I didn't follow the original discussion. NinjaRobotPirate replied to your original thread at ANI, so perhaps they would be kind enough to comment here if they know more. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 21:23, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Jakub Romanowski

Hello G S Palmer. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Jakub Romanowski, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article makes a credible assertion of importance or significance, sufficient to pass A7. Thank you. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 00:35, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

Declined speedy

I declined the speedy for International Youth Society of Eco-Friendly and Renewable Technology (which was formerly IYSERT ORGANISATION) because the two newspaper articles were just enough to barely squeak by A7. I have serious, serious doubts about its notability but there's just enough there that if someone wanted to contest the A7, they could. I'm doing a search for sources, but offhand I have a feeling that I'll probably nominate this one for AfD myself. I'm also somewhat concerned about the SPAs, but I think that this is a case of meatpuppetry rather than sockpuppetry. I'll have a look at Rakesh Biswas as well, since I don't really see where he's particularly noteworthy as well. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 08:46, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Tegulae

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Tegulae requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Socomj (talk) 00:47, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

  • Hi Socomj. I appreciate your interest in patrolling new pages and trying to delete inappropriate articles. However, the page I created, Tegulae (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) is what is called a redirect, and is meant for directing readers to an appropriate related article when there isn't one under the title they have searched for. It is unlikely to be deleted, since redirects are specifically excluded from speedy deletion criterion A3, which you have tagged it under ("other than disambiguation pages, redirects, or soft redirects to Wikimedia sister projects"). All the best, G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 01:03, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

Robin Hood's enemy

Hello, G S Plamer,
about that the Robot of Sherwood; wasn't Robin Hood's enemy King John? I am a bit confused because I haven't read Robin Hood's original story anywhere. -Λίνουξ (talk) 06:22, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

@Λίνουξ: Robin Hood had two enemies: the Sheriff of Nottingham and Prince John. The villain from this episode is the former. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 10:32, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
I see, thank you for the clarification. -Λίνουξ (talk) 10:41, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for moving it back to drafts instead of deleting of revdeleting it. I've waited two day from functionaries with no response. I have more time on the weekends so I thought this would be the best time to go ahead and incorporate this into the relevant areas.~Technophant (talk) 18:45, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

@Technophant: Well, I didn't want you to lose all your work. However, before moving it back, please do bring it up somewhere and see what the community reaction is. It might even be that consensus has changed, and an article on the person could now be safely created. It seems like a possibility, since a redirect from their name has avoided deletion since the 9th. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 18:52, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
Ok, but where? Would you be willing to move it back to mainspace and having a regular AfD?~Technophant (talk) 19:26, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
Also, the aid worker is mentioned in several articles on the topic. There doesn't seem to a community consensus to remove this article. If it suppression a high priority then Oversight would have started to revdeleted this information, posted a response to a talk page, or responded to me by now.~Technophant (talk) 20:38, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
@Technophant: An AfD would only decide whether to delete it from mainspace or not: as of this moment, it hasn't even been decided if it is fit for mainspace. Possible venues could include starting an RfC, or starting another thread on Jimbo's talk page; the latter would definitely get plenty of attention, and would probably be the best way to decide consensus on whether the embargo on the prisoners name has ended. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 20:48, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
I started a thread at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#2013 Islamic State kidnapping of British aid worker. I do think it should be RFC. Please move this to most appropriate place and start an RFC. Ty.~Technophant (talk) 22:04, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
Also, in case you haven't noticed I changed some information at Wikipedia:Files_for_deletion/2014_September_5#Steven_Sotloff. I think this image, and others like it should be included in the discussion. I don't think it will be long before the folks at ISIS media department will start releasing their media with CC-BY and we need to discuss what is appropriate to be included in Commons and Source. The website archive.org has become a favorite place for them to post their videos and some of them are labled as PD. They do get removed, but not as vigilantly as on Youtube or Twitter.~Technophant (talk) 22:10, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Can I just go ahead and split the article? It looks very strange as is.~Technophant (talk) 03:09, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

@Technophant: I wouldn't - I think the article looks good how it is, especially after the cleanup by Masem. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 12:46, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

Deletion of the article "Knooby The Fox"

Sir GS Palmer, I have been informed that my article Knooby The Fox is deleted, as you say that my character is no where important on Wikipedia. My character has not received enough coverage to be on Wikipedia, as I will be publishing a book in 2016 in Pakistan. I would formally request you to undo this delete in the future, only if you think my character would have received enough coverage by that time. Sir G S Palmer, I am informed that my article Knooby The Fox has been deleted. I am the founder of Knooby The Fox, I understand that my character has not yet received enough coverage and is not yet important to be on Wikipedia. I will be publishing a book on Knooby The Fox in 2016 in Pakistan and I formally request that you should undo this delete in the future when my character has received enough coverage to be on Wikipedia. It is hard for me to promote my work and I thought that Wikipedia would be a good place to tell the world about my talent, I did not mean to be promoting about my work, I was just trying to describe Knooby, I hope you understand.

WP:MONOTYPIC listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Wikipedia:MONOTYPIC. Since you had some involvement with the WP:MONOTYPIC redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so.

There are two sets of instructions for dealing with monotypic taxa, so I've created two shortcuts: WP:MONOTYPICFAUNA and WP:MONOTYPICFLORA. It's misleading to have WP:MONOTYPIC pointing only to the fauna case. Peter coxhead (talk) 10:07, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

Samsung Wallet

Samsung Wallet (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

How is the editor who created this page (mostly by copying Google Wallet) supposed to "remedy" your concern that it is an "Unremarkable product"? (I am not that editor.) Just wondering why, since there is no way they can improve the article to resolve that concern, you didn't go for speedy or AfD instead of PROD. Dwpaul Talk 02:41, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

@Dwpaul: I didn't go for speedy since I didn't feel any of the criteria were applicable, and I didn't go for AFD because, really, why bother if you can just wait seven days and get it deleted with a PROD? That's what PROD is for - relatively uncontroversial deletions. I use it all the time on products, since they aren't applicable for A7. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 02:49, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
Ah, but all it takes to prevent it from being deleted under PROD is the user to remove the notice before the seven days are up. So what is the point of that bureaucratic two-step? (Yeah, I looked at the criteria for speedy myself and found them wanting.) Not criticizing, I'm genuinely curious. At least in an AfD the creator can't just sidestep the process, and other editors have a voice. Dwpaul Talk 02:53, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
@Dwpaul: Yes, sometimes they do remove the tag, but in a surprisingly large number of instances they don't. And if they do, it's never too late to start an AfD, which is why I always keep articles I've PRODed on my watchlist. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 03:01, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi Ane wiki. I only changed it because I thought it looked better this way. Of course you can change it back if you disagree. Merging Xianshou?

Hi there. Do you have any objection to me merging the two species of Xianshou into the genus article? That way readers get everything in one article without having to navigate 3 articles to get the same info. This is standard in paleo articles, where there is often little to write about individual species: see Wikipedia:WikiProject_Palaeontology#Single-species_articles WikiProject Paleontology. Di Botcher Reference

I've had a warning on the article I created earlier today (Sunday 19th October). The article was called: Di Botcher and the warning said that I needed to cite at least one reference. It also said that if there is no reference attached to the article by Sunday 26th October, then the article would be deleted. I have attached a reference to the article and would like to request cancellation of the deletion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thenotfunnyman (talkcontribs) 16:52, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

@Thenotfunnyman: adding the reference automatically cancelled the deletion process. You can edit the article yourself to remove the text which is producing the proposed deletion tag. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 16:57, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Okay, great. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thenotfunnyman (talkcontribs) 17:05, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

@Thenotfunnyman: I removed the BLPPROD template, but added {{BLP sources}} and {{unreliable sources}} tags to the article, since IMDB is not considered a reliable source. It would be great if you could find some other sources, or else the article might end up at articles for deletion. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 17:12, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello,

my name is Rustem and i am working in German Heart Center in Berlin.

I have created GHCB wiki pages for international Patients: 1.) German Heart Center in Berlin and 2.) Berlin Heart Center with redirect in first page.

Our center need this pages to inform international patients about treatment in our center, so its not a advertising. Under is links of our center: dhzb.de (German) and dhzb.com (for international patients). This text is not a advertising or promotion.

I havent saved this text in PC and i use wikipedia first time.

I need to create this two pages. Can you help me to do this? How can i do this? I worked for this two pages today 3 hours.

@Hasanovrf: I'm sorry that the article you spent three hours working on got deleted. However, it was promotional: Wikipedia is not a place to inform people about your services. Also, the article was written in the first person plural ("we") and not in the third person form that Wikipedia uses to maintain a neutral and encyclopedic tone. Since you clearly have a conflict of interest, the best way to create the article about your center would be to use the articles for creation process, where people without a connection to the subject will assess the article's notability and neutrality. Good luck! G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 17:49, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

DYK for Boston Society for Medical Improvement

HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 12:02, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

Onward!

From your work on BSMI, you seem like the perfect person to take the lead on a 5X expansion of Massachusetts_Medical_Society (currently about 1050, so the target would be 5250 -- BSMI is about 7000 by comparison). The reason I'm mentioning it is that, believe it or not, just about 20 yrs after Bigelow's presentation of the living Phineas Gage to BSMI, in 1868 John Martin Harlow presented Gage's skull to the Mass Medical Society. You probably know that from the Gage article, but what you probably don't know is that Bigelow (who was quite competitive) somewhat upstaged Harlow's presentation of the skull by trotting out -- at the same meeting -- a new accident victim, a miner who'd had an iron pipe blown through his head. (Bigelow had brought the man all the way from Ohio, together with the gas pipe and even the hat Lenn had been wearing, complete with exit and entry holes.) I'm sure we can make a great hook out of this.

However, Gage has gotten plenty of exposure this year on WP (he was in On This Day about 5 weeks ago) plus some very visible exposure off WP as well, so we should probably wait -- it would be just weird to have Phineas Gage on the main page all the time, like happened with Gibralter. We can sandbox it and move it to mainspace at the right moment maybe next year e.g. on the anniversary of the accident. Interested?

Good work on BSMI, if I didn't already say that. EEng (talk) 22:12, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

@EEng: I don't want to commit to it right now, because I couldn't get to it right away (I'm currently trying to work on another article, Maximo and Bartola) but I'm definitely interested. Just from a quick glance through prospective sources on Google Books, it looks like there's enough information to make an interesting article. But if the target date is September next year, then it wouldn't exactly be a rush job :).
On a related topic, what do you think of a prospective GA nomination for BSMI (once I tweak the lead a bit)? Do you think it would stand a chance? G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 23:45, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
My (admittedly limited) experience with the GA process has been extremely negative -- editors bossily "enforcing" criteria which are either nonexistent or which they completely misunderstand, while unreadable shit gets nonchalantly passed. But assuming you're willing to put up with that particular form of roulette, I think BSMI isn't too far off GA criteria, I think. What strike me offhand are (a) the cites needs a bit of cleanup e.g. Mumford is cited in a mishmash of ways; (b) the writing needs smoothing out along the lines of the copyediting I did for part of it; (c) we should check against Mumford to make sure no major areas of coverage are absent. Sorry, as an educational institution it's not liable to A7. Those are liable to most other things, including prod and AfD. Peridon (talk) 22:28, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

  • Facepalm Facepalm I knew that... not sure why I tagged it for A7. Thanks. PRODed. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 22:56, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the link you gave in the edit summary to this edit. That is helpful, as now I can see your reason. However, the fact that you suspect that the account may be a sockpuppet, and have asked for your suspicions to be investigated is not enough: you should really wait until the issue is decided one way or the other. Thanks for your latest edit to the article, where you gave a link to the sockpuppet investigation, which enabled me to see your reason. However, the fact that you suspect that the article was created by a sockpuppet account, and have asked for the suspicion to be investigated, is not really enough reason for speedy deletion. It would have been better to have waited until the sockpuppetry question was settled one way or the other. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 13:55, 7 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your helpful edits to From The Doctor to my son Thomas. :)

Do you think this has the potential to be WP:GA ?

Cirt (talk) 01:52, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

@Cirt: I've never written a GA myself, but this looks as if it has potential and I would encourage you to nominate it. In the meantime, it would definitely make an interesting DYK. Nice job, by the way! G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 02:02, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
G S Palmer, thanks! I don't personally nominate to DYK myself anymore these days too much, but if you or someone else wanted to I wouldn't object. :) — Cirt (talk) 02:08, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
@Cirt: I'll try to get to it either today or tomorrow. Is there a particular fact/hook you would like to have featured? G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 13:50, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
Non-native-English-speaker nominated it at Template:Did you know nominations/From The Doctor to my son Thomas and totally misunderstood the article. It's not his son, it's someone else's son. Maybe you could read the text of the article, or at least the lead intro section, and help out there at Template:Did you know nominations/From The Doctor to my son Thomas ? — Cirt (talk) 13:53, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

Your "Osama" Bin Laden Page

Just so you know sweetheart, I cant edit the page but its actually Usama Bin Laden. If you would like to confirm this you can check out his FBIs most wanted poster or the fbi.gov website. RedskinsPrincess (talk) 19:33, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

Actually, his name was أسامة بن محمد بن عوض بن لادن‎. Whether that's transliterated to the Latin alphabet as "Usama" or "Osama" depends on which stylebook the writer follows and, to some degree, the writer's national language (American journalists tend to go with Osama, EU journalists with Usama). Read this article. Even the FBI acknowledges it can be spelled (or spelt!) either way. Dwpaul Talk 22:02, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for November 15

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Philae (spacecraft), you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages GMV and INTA. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
